I kited for a season and repaired a bladder. I used tear aid. It’s important to not let it stick anywhere it’s not supposed to. Not terribly hard. Just time consuming.

The second panel here seems appropriate.

Foil SUP / Using a Winch to get up on a downwind

In the Gorge specifically. Is anyone up there doing this yet? Seems like a way to crack the code for the prone guys. Just don't make a mistake.

I thought it was the same as "cowperson" for cowboy. Because "dewolfe" is a good joke for dewilde.

Why would you use a foil at all on your towboogie? Just a mast seems to be the norm for the foilzone guys around here who came up with the idea.

Jeff Clark used to surf Maverick's alone all the time. Until he started telling everyone about it. :)

And cowperson is my new favorite joke. So thanks ponobill 😀

But yes I was replying to cowboy and your fingers were faster than mine. Mainly in reply to the content post as I need more content!

Instead of turning phone off, could you just turn bluetooth off? Or put it in airplane mode?

I'm currently trying to figure out how to keep the alarm system in my Maui van from going off when I open the door with the key instead of the remote.

A guy just told my buddy how to stop that from happening with his Subaru. It involves having all the door's closed, open driver's door, lock driver's door with buttons, close door, unlock with valet key, take key out, lock doors with valet key.

Some weird combo like that. Here I found a link that explains it better. https://www.instructables.com/Lock-Your-Subaru-for-Surfing-Without-the-Alarm-Goi/

Understanding what the foil is going to do underneath your feet is the huge hurdle in the beginning. You should be able to move past that a bit faster since you know what it's doing already. Now you just have to figure out what it is you're specifically looking for in a catchable wave. Get out there and start falling!

Yeah foiling is better than not foiling. It's a very maneuverable foil and lifts like crazy. You're not going to be pumping into 5 for 1's anyway. So set the tail to neutral and mount it back in the tracks. Move it forward in the tracks as you feel comfortable.

I'd say it's worth $350 on the used market. At least that's what I sold mine for a year and a half ago.

I'm 6'1" 185# and still ride my west coast foil club 4'8" I bought with that foil. My AXIS 900 recommendation is due to personally owning that foil and watching several people learn on it. Plus it's a couple years old so deals to be had on it. It's still going to cost you money though.

1) do I use my big or small foil?

It really depends on your waves. You can try the small foil pushed forward in the tracks. It'll be faster and more maneuverable. If the waves are over 2 feet then that's probably your best bet. Or you can try the big foil pushed back in the tracks. If it's tiny and here's the important part, if it's very mushy! then the big foil is probably better. The steeper the wave the smaller the foil. Even if it's 1 foot haha.
The big foil is probably slower and easier to control. It will most likely roll rail to rail slower so that should help you be more stable. If the waves are to big for it though, you'll just be fighting it. So hard to say.

2) The pop up looks slightly slower and less critical than non foil surf. Any hints?

The pop up surfing is much easier. More room for error. Easier to fix foot placement later. Popping up on foil in the beginning, especially if you have traction on your board, is tricky to make sure your feet land in the right place. People do it slower to make sure they're in balance as the foil is lifting and getting the timing right to make sure they don't let the board kickflip on them.

3) do you keep your feet through the centre line? When Winging my front foot is slightly offset.

I say yes, try to keep them on the center line to begin with, but most people end up with a front foot slightly off set. The wider the board the more margin for error you'd have I imagine.

4) my plan is to try and find a reform wave and take off on the white water, is this what you would suggest?

This is a good plan. Make sure it's the part of the wave where the white water is disappearing and the wave is going back to an unbroken swell. If it's white water top to bottom rolling to shore like a beach break, that's hard to stand up and ride in.

5) does a smaller sinker board take off as easy/more easy/less easy than my floaty wing board? A sinker won't have glide but it may get picked up and pushed more in white water?

Not really sure about that. The two boards I've ridden are 31 and 33 liters respectively.

Any general other tips would be awesome..
Thanks

I learned on a naish thrust L. It thrusts you up out of the water instantly. Newer wings are immensely easier to ride. Smoother lift, which gives you an easier pop up. More stable in roll rail to rail also.

I’m not saying buy brand new. But an axis 900 would be great and way better than the naish thrust.

I just remembered that Gunnar talks about mast ventilation in his Project Cedrus mast review. I think he felt it was less likely to ventilate. I don't have time to go back through right now.
