yeah I'll text a couple lifeguard friends on the north shore and let them know where we are going and what color wings we are using.  so if they get a call about us, they know who it is and how to get a hold of us.

my first attempt at winging got "a few 911 calls" and the lifeguard had to paddle a mile out to check on me and my buddy as we were laughing our heads off at each others falling as we slogged our way back to our house.

I'd add a whistle to your kit.  a whistle will travel a lot farther than a yell especially on a windy day

You get the aluula version, or are you gonna have to buy a whole new quiver in a couple months?

Where are you at? Try to demo.

I’m on Oahu. Don’t know of anyone demoing but will do a little digging and see what I can find.

Aloha

Talk to Jeff Chang, Wetfeet Hawaii. He'll get you setup.

I'm 165lbs, and ride the 700 any time the waves are overhead.  740 has plenty of low end lift for it's size, but I find it has too much lift when the waves get bigger.  But on smaller waves it turns really well.  Rode the 700 in 8-10ft hawaiian waves yesterday, doable, but still too big of a foil. Easy to keep down, but feel like I'm just going straight and trying to keep things under control. I need to try the 799 and the 650.  Also might try messing with shims with the 740 to decrease the amount  of lift as it turns really nice.  (kane tail no shims used currently)

This is the best discussion/podcast I've hear on covid/omnicron.  3 smart doctors who talk about what studies have shown, and then each give their opinion on what that means.  I really like Peter Attia's podcast, I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to live healthier and longer.

In waves I prefer wing leash on belt, board leash on ankle or calf. Wing leash on belt so you can paddle freely with your arms, and if caught by a big wave you don't destroy your shoulder and can hold onto board with both hands if duck diving. Board on ankle to help keep leashes from tangling you up completely and adds a little more length to board leash to help keep it away from wing.

Downwinding I put board leash on waist belt too.

yup paddle the board upside down, press shoulder/head into mast to help stabilize, little wax on bottom of board helps from sliding off. wing leash connected to waist belt or to ankle if you don't have a belt.  works well in medium to small whitewash if wind is onshore.  offshore wind it becomes a nightmare, because wing wants to fly up onto your foil.

best advice is to really study the beach before getting into water, and figure out where the water gets deepest quickest, waves are smallest/weakest, currents, and where the least amount of rocks are. Also try to time the sets, might allow you to do a quick paddle and get out hair dry.

Had one of my best sessions last night. 20+ wind, 6-8ft Hawaiian surf. It was big and unruly. Bumpy and lumpy. Just me and a buddy taking off on everything that came through.  We stayed out till dark.  Before winging I wouldn't have even gotten wet, but now these days are the best days ever.  Foiling is fun, but winging has taken everything up to a whole new level.

3 pages of everyone telling someone they are wrong, and they just keep responding with no I'm right, you're all wrong... I love it.

badger, you're using a large foil for your weight, of course you like it back in the tracks.  a lot of us learned with smaller foils, so if we kept the foils in the back of the track we'd still be stuck trying to get the board off the water.  There are so many variables with different boards/foils/stabs/mast length/weight/windspeed/hand wing size that any time someone says do this or do that, you gotta realize it wont work for everyone across the board. When I started I had to have the foil in the front of the tracks, slammed to the front, and i wished I could have moved it farther forward.

Go throw a lift foil on your board and let us know where in the tracks it needs to be.
