Sessions / SUS in Monmouth Cty, NJ
« on: May 18, 2013, 09:23:03 AM »
Hi all,  I combined two short videos of me susing near my home in NJ.  The first video filmed this past March on a cold but sunny day using the Action Pro camera.(btw, the action pro camera housing leaked and the camera is no longer)  The second half is at the same break a month later, this time filmed using the soloshot tripod.

Oh and I'm riding a 9'2" Fanatic Allwave, thanks JimK!

Gear Talk / Paddle handle
« on: January 29, 2012, 08:44:14 AM »
Hi all, I have a kialoa paddle and I want to shorten the length; I'm assuming I cannot reuse the handle but when searching the web I cannot find handles only for sale.  Any suggestions?

Thanks, Ken

Gear Talk / PSH Wide Ripper or PSH AA
« on: November 15, 2011, 05:53:49 PM »
Hi, I'm hoping to get some feedback on which SUP I should choose.  I just sold my PSH 10'6" AA in order to fund a shorter board.  I really enjoyed the 10.6 but found it to be a bit too much board.

I was almost set on the PSH 9'11 or 9'4 wide Ripper but then read about these boards come to life in bigger waves and not so good for small waves(Can anyone confirm this?).  So, now I'm thinking about a PSH 9'6 AA.

Just a little background, I'm a fit 47yrs, 5'9", 190lbs.  I've been regular surfing for over thirty years and still shortboard when the waves are stomach high and better.  So I'm not looking to SUP in big waves but would like to maneuver the board a bit in the smaller stuff.  I live in Monmouth County, NJ.

Finally, please keep the feedback to PSH boards, there is a shop not too far away that sells them and I find them to be reasonably priced.  Thanks.

Gear Talk / Rail Tape and Board Performance
« on: May 22, 2011, 07:48:40 AM »
I realized the rail tape I bought for my 12'6" has a rough surface, will this have any effect on the boards speed?

thanks, Ken

Gear Talk / New PSH 10'6" 2 fingernail cracks in 2 sessions
« on: April 22, 2011, 08:24:29 AM »
Hey all,   I've been having a blast getting into sup surfing, today was the most rewarding so far, falling less and riding more!  I really like my PSH board but in 2 sessions I've come home with 2 finger nail size cracks on the rail.  I can only assume it's from my paddle, I already have several dents but the cracks are alarming!  I am going to purchase a paddle guard but has anyone experienced this?  Is this normal or do I have a substandard made board?

Gear Talk / waterproof sup bag?
« on: October 18, 2010, 07:13:42 AM »
Hello,

I store my sup underneath my deck hanging from ropes, I recently bought a ocean & earth board bag to mainly protect the board from dirt.  I went to go suping last weekend and right away saw that the sup bag took in a lot of water and I had to open the zipper to let the water out.

Does anyone know if there are board bags that are waterproof?

thanks, Ken

Gear Talk / kayak car racks for sup
« on: August 05, 2010, 12:17:45 PM »
Has anyone tried using a kayak rack to carry your sups?  thule has the "hullaport pro" and it appears you would be able to carry a sup (maybe two) with this device.
the reason i'm interested is my sup is too wide to use with my factory rack and "hang two surf carrier".

thanks, Ken

SUP General / sore knees
« on: July 10, 2010, 09:44:08 AM »
Hello,

I've been suping in mainly flat water for the past 2months, almost every other day.  My knees are always sore, it goes away when I'm done but I'm wondering if this happens to anyone else?  I know most complain about the numb feet, I get that too but I'm more concerned about the knees.  I suped for about 4hrs today and while I'm not currently in pain, there is a lingering discomfort in the knees.

thanks, Ken

Technique / Training tips for nycpaddle
« on: June 01, 2010, 12:31:38 PM »
Hello,

I'm new to this site and new to the sport of sup.  I have been surfing since 1980, so I do have many years of experience in the ocean.
I have an 11'6" sup and would like to participate in the nycpaddle event (28mi) on 8/13/10.

My question is what kind of paddle training should I be doing starting now?  I've been paddling a couple times a week for the past 2 wks and yesterday was my first day in the ocean (been in inlets and bays prior), i paddled 5miles in 1hr and 40min.  I did not feel winded at all, just a little sore at the bottom of my feet.

Besides surfing, I alternate running and lifting weights at least 5-6days/wk.

Thanks in advance for any feedback, Ken.
