Board has a few nicks and scratches, no dings or pressure dents, super durable.  Rail Saver Pro on rails from when it was new. 
Very stable and rides great!  Comes as 2+1 fin setup but will throw in FCS Quad setup if you want to experiment.
Oddly, 129l is written on bottom of board but it's actually 148l.

Hi all,
After riding my NSP DC Cocomat Sup for the past few months I thought it’d be a good time for a review.  Prior to the NSP I was riding a 9’2 Sunova Flow, I like the Flow a lot but I found it was limited when going on my back hand (I ride on my back hand probably 75% of the time) I believe due to the wider tail.    Also, I got tired of the LiftSUP handle, I wear mitts in the winter and have to resort to tying a piece of twine to the handle.  I do feel the sunova’s are very well made and do not rule out considering one in the future but only if I could get a different handle.  I think if the Flow had a slightly narrower tail, slightly wider nose (when digging hard for a wave it’s easy to bury the rail and fall if you’re not careful), this could be my perfect board.  Rocker and rails on the Flow are good.
When searching for a replacement I wanted something very similar in dimensions.  I also want something durable (I only ride one board) and not too expensive.  I finally went with the NSP DC Wide Cocomat 8’10 x 32 x 148L.  I went with the NSP because I have the NSP DC Cocomat 14’ tour/race board and have had no problems with its construction and I feel it is a very good board.  The 14’ I have had for over 4 years still looks new after participating in many long distance paddle events.  The price of the NSP 8’10 at $1,300.
The NSP rides great, very stable but maneuverable, front side is almost as good as the Flow, back hand is much better than the Flow.  The NSP has thicker rails and less rocker so it took me a while to get used to riding steep waves being careful on doing bottom turns and not burying the rail.  I didn’t have to think of my frontside on the Flow but NSP I have learned to compensate and now it’s all good.  Back hand is great, easy to whip the board around (I believe due to the narrower tail) its very user friendly, cutbacks super easy.   Both boards I ride as a quad with a center nubster fin, I really like this setup.  The insert carry handle is a dream, all SUPs should have this imo.
The jury is out on the NSP’s durability.  I immediately installed the RSPro tape so all good there.  It has sustained some scratch marks on the front deck, no biggie.  What's surprising is there are slight indentations on the standing area where my feet are when standing parallel, I was very surprised by this since my 14’ has none of that.  Also, I guess it’s minor but the tail pads color has faded.  Oh, I almost forgot the dimensions on the board read 8’10 x 32 x 128l!!!  The board is 148L, I thought this was kinda lame in terms of QA but oh well.  Finally, nothing to do with durability but the NSP is FCS for quads but the center box is the 2 + 1 or traditional long board fin box so I had to get a special device to insert the nubster fin, seems to work well.
Overall, I’m extremely happy with how this board rides.  It surfs well in small and big waves (had a blast this weekend surfing Irma).  Paddles really well.  Me, 53 yrs old, 200 lbs, 5’9.  Sup surfing for 7 years, regular surfing for over 30 years.

SUP General / Surf to Sup to part time surf

Hi all,

Probably an odd question for this sight and was wondering if it should go under the "Random" topic but anyway.
I'm 53 yrs old started surfing regularly at age 17.  About 5yrs ago I took up sup surfing and have done this almost exclusively the past three years.
This past summer I prone surfed with my daughter, I rode my old 8'6 x 2 3/4"x 21 1/2" Patagonia Pointblanks surfboard (probably 15yrs old).  Even though the board has above dimensions and is heavy it feels like I'm riding a toothpick compared to my sup.  On another occasion I surfed a 8ft foam wavestorm and had a blast! 
There are times I'd still like to regular surf and want to buy a board (not a longboard per se and not a foamie) that will not be a volume shock when I use it.

Researching some boards I'm wondering if anyone has experience with the following:
FireWire Addvance, FireWire Submoon, 7S Superfish, Surftech Nugget

Any feedback and recommendations are much appreciated.

For sale is a Sunova Flow 9'2 x 32 3/8 x 4 5/8 @ 147L

Board sustained a ding on the bottom which was repaired.  Some scuff marks along the rails.  RS Pro tape on rails.  Board is water tight and in very good condition.  Original Sunova fins included not fins in picture.

Gear Talk / Looking for one surf sup and my Sunova demo experience

I wasn't sure where to put this post since I will be writing a lot about Sunova but also about my quest for one surf sup for all conditions.  A little about me, I'm 53, 200lbs, fairly fit regularly go to the gym doing weights and cardio.  Surfing since 1980.  Sup surfing for about 5years.  Flat water sup experience I've done 7 SEA NYC paddles (26 miles), 3 Dean Randazzo paddles (22 miles).  I will admit that I'm a decent surfer but not great for someone surfing for 37 years.  I'm goofy foot, live northern part of the jersey shore where most better breaks are rights.  Finally, I read on these sites how everyone wants/has a quiver of boards, I only want one.  Probably a disadvantage due to varying conditions but I want to get one board wired and ride it in all conditions.

Currently exclusively ride a 9'2 Sunova Flow, I do like it.  Good going frontside, good in big and small waves.  On the backhand unless the wave is steep I find maneuverability limited.  You have to get used to the yaw when paddling it took me some adjusting in timing the wave. Also, if I dig too hard paddling I end up burying the upper rail and balance is lost.  I previously had a 9,2 Prowave good board better for me on the backhand, looking back I liked it better than the flow.

I went to the Sunova demo yesterday and the following is a run down of my experience:
9'2 Skate - very stable paddles slow.  Caught a couple of long lefts found maneuvering limited.  On subsequent waves I started to bury the nose when digging for a wave, STC said it could've been due to the flat rocker.
9'2 Speeed- less stable than the Skate due to being narrower and the domed deck which I'm not a fan of.  Easy to catch waves, never gonna pearl this board, fast down the line, turns well and if the wave flattens out a couple of paddle strokes and easily get to the next section.
8'7 Shroom - this board is a blast, very stable, paddles well and really maneuverable!  If I were to have multiple quiver this board is a must!  BUT, I do not like the convex deck, even worse than the domed deck, I could see this doing a number on my knees if used regularly.
8'10 Flow- I am looking to go slightly smaller than my 9'2 Flow and thinking this could be it.  Where I find the 9'2 stable in all conditions the 8'10 was very unstable.  Now part of this could be due to being tired and the choppy conditions we were looking surfing but it's not the one.  Btw, I couldn't catch a wave and quickly paddled in.
9'5 The One - very stable, paddles great, very maneuverable for its size and volume , super fast down the line, felt faster than the Speeed.  If this came in a 9'2 with slightly more rocker and a bit less volume this could be the one for me.

I think it's so important to demo boards, unfortunately I only get a chance to demo Sunovas.  These are great quality made boards, unfortunately none fit the "one board" I'm looking for.  Also, I do not like the Lift-Sup handle, surfing in the winter wearing mitts and have to rely on tying a piece of twine to pull the handle up is not good.

Lastly, I've decided to sell my 9'2 Flow.  The search continues...

Gonna be my 7th consecutive year paddling the 25 mile SEA Paddle NYC around Manahattan.  There have been several popular water people participating in past years this year it's Kai Lenny.  I'm looking forward to seeing him fly by me up the East River!

Gear Talk / True Ames side bite fins for my Flow

So I wasn't feeling it with the Flow in how I want a board to ride.  Going frontside I like to crank a bottom turn and proceed to step back a little then do s-turns down the line.  Going on the backhand I take off more on an angle and crank s-turns and cutbacks which are easier for me on the backhand.  I don't have to do anything else on a wave, what I described gives me the most satisfaction.  Something with the flow was holding me back so I installed 3.25" True Ames side bites, been out the past two mornings in clean 2-3ft waves and have had a blast! Board does it now!  Very happy!

I'm going to keep this setup for now, I'm wondering if I'll need a slightly longer center fin for bigger days?  Bigger surf in the forecast for tomorrow and Monday...

SUP General / FCS fin does not sit flush in fin box

Hi all,

I decided to switch from thruster to quad setup on my sunova flow and noticed one quad fin does not sit flush in the fin box.  I tried another fin same problem.  So the issue is the fin box.  Anything I can do to fix this or is the only solution to sand down the fin inserts?

Gear Talk / Fiberglass vs carbon paddles for surfing only

Hi, I cracked my carbon Kialoa paddle in half during the Bertha swell and would like to replace it.
Talking sup surfing only is there a big difference between fiberglass and carbon?
I really don't have the funds for an expensive carbon paddle right now.

Gear Talk / Mule SUP carrier trouble

Hi all,

Yesterday I rode my bike and SUP to the beach, there was a gusty NNW wind blowing and on two occasions the wind flipped the mule carrier over basically destroying my fins!
Now I'm a bit reluctant to use it again, does anyone know of another bike carrier where this could not happen?  I'm thinking I need something with a bar instead of a strap.
