LOL. That was great!  :D

Here's my social distance from surfers plan:

Love the nose back POV. It seems better than before. Did you change some setting or get a new GoPro8?

Just a 7, but in the Super Suit. I tried to change the angle so it's facing up more, showing less of the deck, and more of the scenery.

Nice, that is your ripper board I assume.

A world of difference from and a short time since your first board and vids.

Thanks. This is the "fat" board  ;D  I sometimes drop down to a Pocket Friend at 8'2"x28'x100L, and while it really gets it done, I'm finding that I just have a lot more fun on the bigger boards. Some days I'll surf for five hours straight, and have fun the whole time. On a smaller board, while you can really rip it, my legs are done in two hours. So less performance, but loads more fun.

SUP is hard. It's taken me three years just to get to the comfort level I was at on a shortboard... A lot of changes in the way we go about doing things. I've rally had to step back and reevaluate things :)

Awesome shots Oki!
Water and pics are crystal clear and you are killing it!

Thanks Creek!

Just a couple of from-the-nose pics. Sorry. I generally surf alone, and far from where people can take pics from the beach.

The south east swell is late but finally picking up. Was better than 12' faces on the points, but I picked a smaller peak at 6'-8', as I was by myself. Wore my helmet, and wetsuit, even though it's warm enough for trunks. Good thing, as I got absolutely smashed at the three hour mark :-)  It's nice to feel the warm water again, and typhoon season on the horizon.

On the Blue Planet All Good at 8'8"x31"x120L. Futures GL2 thruster and Mink Systems tabs.

And then there's this study suggesting the number of people who've had it in Santa Clara County is 50-85 times higher than the PCR testing number, bringing the death rate down to 0.12% to 0.2% from over 4%.

Two larger studies are kicking off in the article, and I know the Japanese are firing up the same thing. We've long suspected that it's already taken a run at us, or that it's been here since late December.

5'10 and 175lb.

8'2" 100L Pocket Friend
8'8" 116L Pocket Knife
8'8" 120L All Good
8'10  116L Ninja Warrior
10' 128L NP10
10" NP10 Carbon
12'7" Kazuma Race
14' Bump Rider Speed

Not sure where things are going from here. For a while I was really leaning towards bigger waves and more high performance boards. Trying to get back to my peak prone surfing-days skill level. But I just find myself having more fun in smaller waves on the 10' long boards these days... A week or so ago, some friends went to a spot that was inside-out and well overhead. I went to the other side of the island and rode the 12'6" race board on a shoulder high, short, hollow peak, and had the time of my life  :)

That article is from a nutjob that has been proven to be a nutjob

https://beachgrit.com/2020/04/an-open-letter-to-scripps-scientist-kim-i-wouldnt-go-in-the-water-for-a-million-dollars-prather-surfline-and-surfrider-if-the-public-continues-to-get-hammered-with-conjecture-as-fact-from-sa/

But of course a bunch of people have jumped on it

That completely blew up on her. For a change, the media actually called her out on it.

The point, of course, is to let acquired immunity grow without overwhelming medical facilities. That's the entire idea of flattening the curve. It's not to stop the infection, we don't have any tools available to do that. It's to be able to provide care to people who need it.

It blows my mind how many people still don't get this. People need to stop thinking of it as killing "old" people. A lot of young and otherwise healthy people are getting through it better, but many with medical intervention. If it comes off the rails...

Technique / Re: Is it cheating to sit down in choppy conditions?
« on: March 26, 2020, 08:27:00 PM »
I sit all the time. Hell, I even paddle back out on my but sometimes, like it's a sea kayak. I mostly surf for 3-4 hours straight, and nothing will burn my legs up quicker than standing around on the board when it's rough.

We have no real surf cams here and I like it that way. Coming from a time where I had to predict the swell using the daily isobar map in the newspaper and "feeling" the wind, with the newer info like Windy, I have it super-dialed-in, and there's often significant swell when the forecasts say there isn't. Even at closer-in breaks, I get it empty a lot  ;D

Good deal! One of the many fantastic things about BP is that they'll work with you to accommodate difficult shipping situations.

...and then that happened  :'(  At least I didn't lose the fin. Lasted three 3-4 hour sessions.

As I suspected, the part was weak due to being hollow. Will try again with the infill. If that fails, I'll probably machine one in Ti-6AL-4V  :)

It's kind of a pain to clean it all out, but once done, I pushed the pin out of one of those 9" plastic fins I seem to have a hundred of, and in pushed right into the adapter. Then heated a screw with a lighter, and it threaded easily into the hole for the hold down. Fin was a little tight going into the adapter, but snug is better. It cracked lengthwise in the thin area along the side of the fin, but it doesn't matter, as that "strap" is in tension when installed. Also snug in the US box, but again, snug is better. Been surfing it a lot and no problems.

I used to spearfish with a guy who fought off an 8' Bull that was trying to get the fish on his stringer. Not long after that, I stopped stuffing speared fish into my wetsuit  :D
