This just happened to my brother last year, now it happened to me. I went to file my federal taxes yesterday electronically, and got a message back saying it was declined because a return for this SSN had already been filed! It can easily done, because there is no verification process. They simply file what ever income they want, and show a big return. Then change the account they want it deposited into to there own (it's just the account number they as for) and BINGO!!!!!! How will the IRS fix that one? It will come down to a race of filling your tax returns before the bad guys do. I think the electronic filing has created this. I mailed in my tax returns with a completed IRS fraud form, which I have to include a copy of my drivers license to prove I am who I think I am......... Took my brother almost a year before he got his refund check, so I'm not banking on mine coming any time soon

On a recent fin box repair/ replacement to one of my boards, the repair guy used a piece of this really stiff foam to create a cassette that the fin box set into. I'm getting ready to install a fin box in my new unlimited board. Being stringer-less and only 1# EPS, I wanted to reinforce the area around the fin box. So maybe there is an actual name for this type of foam that I haven't heard, or I just am not looking in the right place?

It's been years coming, but it's finally happening. Four years ago I designed this unlimited for myself. I had Hobie build it, and I learned a lot in the process. The finished board was designed for someone over 250#. The more I raced, the more weight I lost. I was soon too light for the board. Hobie had glassed it for durability more than racing, so at 37# it was on the heavy side. Everyone said to just sell it, and make another one. I tryed, but for what people wanted to pay for it, I would end up paying another $1,500. at least for the board I wanted. My board had plenty of foam / volume that could be cut out, and ultimately get the board I want out of it. The bottom was S-Glass, and the deck was carbon. So I decided to reuse the deck, and re-work the bottom and the rails. So here we go.....

Recently I noticed my custom 9'4 board was getting slightly heavier. In fact, when I held it by the recessed handle the tail would drop. It use to be balanced. I left it in the sun for about 30min. and noticed water bubbling out of various spots. I then left it in the sun for two days, and the bubbling eventually stopped. I mark the spots with tape then repar them.

I'm tired, and the Kona beer buzz is wearing off. The sky was blue, 85 deg., surf was up, water was warm, and the music was great. I'm glad Sparky made the distance race go all the way to the pier this year. It was a 10 miler. Rob Rojas was back on an Ohana that is a replica of his old yeller, with a few tweeks. He won the unlimited's of course, and beat Danny. I started right behind Rob, but he was out of site within 10 min. Met a lot of east coasters "You Know", and down-under mates. Drank beer with a couple of Kiwi's, and watched the attempt at the world record for most SUP's on one wave. I was overwhelmed at the amount of different style boards I saw. Just to show you how big an event it was, I saw Chuck Patterson wandering around the parking lot with a board on his shoulder looking for his truck. He couldn't remember which row it was on. There must have been at least 50 sprinter vans in the parking lot with SUP logos on them. So after a 2 min. drive home (nice), I'm thinking about what a great event the BOP is, and what a great sport has taken over our lives.......

Just saw these boards from a Florida paddle company. They look pretty wide to me. Maybe 34+"? It doesn't look like you could go rail to rail to quickly. I've never SUS'd on anything that wide before, I wonder if they perform well?

After some discussion with a number of shapers, I decided to glue (removable) and extra fin on my 18' unlimited. A number of the top unlimited racers have a second fin glassed onto their boards. The main reason I wanted to add one was to improve the surfability for the finish at the BOP. The second reason was to improve tracking. The first fin I glued on broke off and is somewhere between Dog Patch and Seal Rock. It took a bit of force to break the epoxy joint on the mount. I reinforced the mount and used a stronger epoxy for the replacement. The board tracks amazingly straighter, is more stable, and held it's course on the bump better than before. I didn't feel any extra drag either. The existing fin is 3' forward, the added fin is 1' forward. I might glass on a fin once I dail in the size and location.

Did a little trolling yesterday from N. Beach to Riv. Northwest swell mix is zero, leaving a rare South only. Everything is backside for me. Good practice cutting out of close outs backside. This morning samething, but cleaner. Maybe global warming has eliminated west coast rights? I'll bet all the goofy or switch footers dominated the Hurley Pro this weekend. Anyone find parking?

FYI, http://actionshotcam.com/shop/ They seem to be currently marketing them to kids, but they look like they will have an HD version out soon. They are being sold on the toy aisle at the large retailers. Half the price of a GoPro too......

I felt compelled to say something about this. I know I'm preaching to the choir, but what is the deal with all the knee paddlers in the line up??? If they can't stand up just paddling out, what makes them think they are going to catch a wave and get to there feet with a paddle in their hands? I would say this SUP explosion has a bunch of wanabe's putting the cart in front of the horse. This morning there were 3 guys trying to turn around to catch a 3' to 5' waves from their knees. They just blocked anyone else from catching those waves, and creating a hazard to everyone. It happened to me a few weeks ago at another spot too. These people need to get their sea legs first, then try SUS'g. Just a little venting...

Just a thought, but an EZup, some chairs, ice chest, and some fellow Zoners hanging might be a good call. Back row costs $250 plus insurance. Place to drop your back pack, and board (behind the space). 24hr security is included for the entire 3 days. I live right above Doheny, so I could provide chairs and a table, maybe even an EZup. If everyone pitched in a little $, it could be done. Admin. ? Bueller? ...... Bueller?

Recently, two friends of mine, in their early 50's had heart attacks and died. So today on my distance paddle, about a mile off shore, I started thinking what if I had a heart attack way out here? I could see a fishing boat about a half mile from me, but would anyone know where I was? I should probably start bringing my phone again. People always ask me, "aren't you afraid of sharks way out there"? No, I think about work, and heart attacks, and that kind of stuff... I mean I healthy, but I'm I really? I did forget my Ipod. Maybe listening to some 50 Cent should keep me from thinking about dying......You think?
