SUP General / Picked up a LakeShore Heavenly Air iSUP
« on: September 12, 2013, 11:31:53 AM »
So I spent a week down at Lake Shasta last week & picked up a LakeShore Heavenly Air, 12'6" touring iSUP. I've had it out on the lake a 1/2 dozen times now & am really liking it. It has a little bounce in it occasionally, like when your going over a series of boat wakes. But is totally manageable. It weighs in at around 23 lbs & seems like it will be pretty durable. It seems to glide a bit slower than my old LakeShore foam/epoxy boards, but my 3 mile times are really close to the same.

Only pic I have of it so far. But it's 12'6" x 30" x 6". Inflates to 15 psi & is really stable. Most people don't believe it's an inflatable.

The iSUP has this type of fin box on it.

I'm looking around for other fins for it. Found 2 others on the NRS website. Really cheap, like under $10. I expect to take it out on a river occasionally & the 9" fin I have is bound to cause trouble.

The pump that comes with it is the same old story..... pumps fine to about 10 psi, then gets really tough. I'm looking at getting either a K-Pump K20 or a Red Air HP Ezeee pump (less expensive). I also bought the Shrader valve adapter from SlingShot Sports. It should show up soon & then I can mess with figuring out what pumps work & what doesn't. I have a 30 gallon compressor in my garage so I imagine that will work great. Hoping to find a 12V compressor that will work too, at a reasonable price.

Thanks to the forum for all the info on these boards. I looked around all summer before pulling the trigger. Typically I knew far more about these boards than the shop owners did. Took me a while to actually get on one to test it out. In the end I love having a 12' board that floats my 230 lb ass really well, is stable & tough as nails, plus I can pack it up in the garage or trunk of the car easily. Can't wait to take it with me on a plane trip sometime.

Gear Talk / Broken paddle
« on: July 10, 2011, 08:20:45 PM »
Loaned my LakeShore Paddleboard Company board & paddle to a friend today & he broke the paddle. He says he was just paddling along & it snapped. I saw him go down once or twice so I imagine he landed on the paddle  & cracked it, then finished it off paddling. I've been using this paddle for about a year now & leaned on it a LOT so I can't imagine it just cracked paddling.
Anyway, any suggestions on repairing it? I see several threads on here where guys have repaired paddles so it seems possible.

In light of the Eddie Vedder thread.... I ran across this bit last night. Apparently Detroit has their own celebrity spokesmen on SUP too.

Gear Talk / SUP rack on a boat?
« on: May 23, 2011, 01:35:05 PM »
So a buddy of mine is building a party barge. He lives on the lake so it will double as an extension of his dock.  In fact, he's making it just like a dock, 3 log floats, 6 plastic floats, 20' x 10' lower deck with a 8' x 10' upper deck. It'll have an 8 hp Honda engine on it to putter around on the lake, big bumpers on each side so other boats can tie up.

We're kickin around ideas for SUP racks on it. But figuring out where to put them. Too low on the sides & you can't tie up to a boat or dock. Too high & you can't see past them. Only place I can think of is upright, tied to the upper deck railing. But then the fin will probably get kicked by someone.

Any bright ideas?

SUP General / Laird scrappin with the wind surfers

One of those things where you start watching one video, then it suggests another, and another.......

LAIRD HAMILTON MAUI

Several things I thought when I watched it. First of all, it looks like he's out there flippin'em crap. And their flippin it back. They almost appear to be dueling... paddle vs mast!

And second, geez, the size of the waves he's out there playing on. I wish I could be 1/2 that stable on waves 1/2 that size!

I heard that Laird was considering it. But this is the first one I've seen.

Looks like it would be tough to balance.

Gear Talk / Winter paddling
« on: October 06, 2010, 11:03:54 AM »
This will be my first winter paddling.... although not my first on the water. As far as cold weather clothing is concerned, I'm pretty aware of what I need, just looking for deals.

What I am completely unaware of is how to take care of these foam/epoxy boards over the winter. Paddling in the day with temps in the 40s or 50s is fine. But it gets cold at night around here, easily getting into the 30s, 20s, and plenty lower. So if there is any water in these things, the boards are going to break. How do you make sure all the water is out of them? Is it enough to just turn it upside down & hope it all drains? I keep the board on the rack of my truck a lot these last few weeks. It's upside down & I've pulled the plug to see what drains out..... and it aint' much. I've even weighed the board a few times to see if it's getting heavier. Still the same. But just want to make sure I can use it in the off season without ruining it.

I'm hoping to build racks in the garage soon. Which is insulated, but not heated. It will get plenty cold in there & I need to make sure the boards are taken care of.

TIA....

Gear Talk / Fish from the board......
« on: August 19, 2010, 08:44:01 AM »
Heres one way to get'er done.    :o

A little background... some of the lakes in this area have been overrun with Carp. I guess their a garbage fish that will overtake & overpopulate a lake, smothering other fish out. I read where the county has pulled over 7000 lbs of dead or dieing Carp from Long Lake (west of Spokane).... some variation of herpes is killing them. Seems like it would be messy.... and get herpes all over your board.      ;D

I don't go to that lake. But these guys did.

Gear Talk / Lakeshore Paddleboard Company
« on: June 14, 2010, 07:46:59 AM »
Anyone ever seen or heard anything about this company? Or their boards? I guess their out of the Lake Tahoe area. Boards are wide, flat & pretty sharp rails. The 10'er turned on a dime. The 14'er was a tank, but you could easily have 2 people on it.

http://www.lpc-sup.com/index.php

I found out they have a local dealer here in town. They came out to our beach this weekend with some boards to demo. Had a dozen or so people on them, paddling around the lake Sunday morning. I was impressed with how stable they are, very easy to stand up right away & start paddling hard. Even did some time in some wind & boat chop & never fell once. Made me realize how some of you do this without getting wet.
