I can only say that everyone is different. There are a few variables that are do help. #1 is your surgeon. A good ones make it much easier with less pain and quicker recovery. The other is your fitness before going into the operation. Lastly the rehab is all you. How hard you work at it has a lot to do with the outcome. Get a stationary bike stand if you have a bike and go at a couple of times a day. I was told I couldn't hurt the joint and it was up to me to decide when I was comfortable enough to get back in the water. I had the hip resurfaced instead of the full joint replacement so it was different in someways but they still pull you apart like a chicken to do the work. Good luck with your recovery and you'll be back on the water sooner then you think but no need to rush it.

I'm not wanting to give financial advise but I'm a bit surprised you didn't take the rental route (at least for a couple of years).

The Gorge is probably steeper than our Milnerton run but I'm told they are pretty similar peterp, I was able to do a Milnerton this past Dec on a visit to SA. Milnerton is nothing like the Gorge. The winds are similar but going against the current changes how the wave behaves compared to ocean swells. The drops in the Gorge can get steep but Milnerton has some bombs that roll through that are in a class of their own. Both are top 5 downwind runs but quite different in the dynamics at work.

Well 10generation I would be talking to Joe Bark about the crossing and ask his advise on a board. He's actually done it more then a few times as well as shaped boards (SUP and paddleboard) for that channel for many, many years. http://www.joebark.com/blog/

Beasho I'm a bit confused, the BigSeppo post talks about Tuttle Boxes and foil plates (i.e. stick on mounts). I don't see his post speak to Dual Track mounts.
I don't see the Tuttle being any stronger than the Dual Track Cassette. The Tuttle has been around a lot longer so no surprise it was adopted by most of the foil builders.
The Dual Track does have an advantage of being adjustable fore and aft.
Those stick on mounts are as described by BigSeppo, a delam waiting to happen.

Here is a very good video from Alex Aguera (Go Foil) on installing a tuttle box for hydrofoil surfing.

I know vests have been discussed for sometime but why doesn't Patagonia (along with just about all the others) provide the buoyancy specs? The vest I bought earlier this year was from ProMotion as they were the ONLY ones providing the amount of buoyancy for their impact vest. Seems like an important number when looking for this type of product. Yes I know it's not a CG approved 15.5 lbs of float but I do want to know how much buoyancy I'm getting when buying one of these vests. Is it a lot or a little or none?

Actually that keyboard is about 22 years old and they were only built for about a year. The Lexmark logo gives away it's approx. age. You're lucky it still works as they were easy to break. Not the keyboard but the frame. The most reliable keyboard ever made is still the IBM Model M. But alas Lexmark figured out it's hard to make money if your stuff never breaks. Yours would be even more valuable if it had the optional number pad. You should retire it to the Pono Museum of Old Shit Worth Good Money to Buy Sups and find a Model M with a number pad to bang away on. Make sure it has an IBM logo to keep it real.

After rent, utilities and car insurance I have $100 per week to live on.
That includes food, gas, clothing, auto repair, travel, entertainment.... everything comes out of that $100 Well that is quite a remarkable feat of budgeting Rick considering there are millions of others in America in the same boat one would think you could improve your income by sharing your budget skills. Living on $14.28 a day with all the amenities you describe is incredible. (Actually it's $13.10 a day if one deducts your yearly golf fees.) What do you do for health insurance? Is that included in the budget? What's the plan when the body gives out considering you have no backup besides SSI?

I think it would have been hard to live stream. I was told it was hard to see from the beach from all the mist in the air from the surf. Plus who other then the Coast Guard was going to be able to sit on the inside and shoot live footage?
