Sunova SUP / Re: Sunova Vent Plug
« on: January 20, 2018, 11:16:30 AM »
Yeah, an old thread, but I thought I would add my two cents regardless.  The Sunova vents come from the SUP Think Tank, same as the LIFTSUP handles.  I get why Tino says don't mess with 'em, I thought mine was wonky and there was absolutely nothing wrong with it.  Board building is dusty work and it's pretty easy to see how the plug doesn't get set right.  Dry the area, unscrew the plug, blow out the hole and brush out all the threads with a tooth brush.  A light film of Silicone on the plug threads, Tighten firmly, but not tight and it will never leak again.  Needless to say, never touch or get anything on the Gore membrane.

My real tip is this.  I always cover my vent openings with a piece of helicopter tape with not much more then a millimeter or two of overlap around the opening.  It might bubble up in the heat or even sink in the cold.  What it does though is prevents any sand, salt or other containment into the plug hole and stops the worry of rinsing the plug area especially after use in saltwater.  Helicopter tape is super pliable and holds it's bond, don't use anything else.  If the interior pressure changes enough, it will release easily, but in everyday conditions mine have never opened ever.

Gear Talk / Re: decent race paddle around $200?
« on: December 29, 2017, 12:03:09 AM »
Don't believe the doubters...  Just over $200 will get you the best, a Quickblade.  Glass blade / carbon shaft and the new Hybrids are $229 for the Flyweight 83si size, .  I have a $400 14 oz Quick and had a $500 Quick V-Drive.  I am just as happy and fast with my glass blade / carbon shaft version that weights 15oz and I paid exactly $200 for.  You can also get a glass / glass version even cheaper.  They're nearly as good, just a couple oz's heavier.

Gear Talk / Re: Ledge Style Carry Handle
« on: October 25, 2017, 10:07:33 AM »
Sunnova's pop-up handle doesn't really lend itself to the 'lunch pail' position you describe; all the Sunnovas I have had carry just like a ledge...

Ditto.  The weight is arm braced against you hip or body, no different then any other carry grip.  The big difference is the lower grip pressure required in holding the board.  Not a big fan of the LiftSUP, but I don't mind it either.  If you never want to get your toes caught, this is definitely the way to go.

the dimensions on the board read 8’10 x 32 x 128.  The board is 148L...

How do you know it's really 148l?  I'd be inclined to go with what's written on the board.

I guess those Apple slide-in wrist straps just like to slide out.

I don't get it.

Exactly.  Not for the GoPro crowd.

Yeah, it looks to be awesome, even with the slow f4 24mm lens.  I just picked up the one inch sensor G9X MII, because I got tired of lugging my APS-Cs around.

It's just a tiny RX100 that's waterproof to boot.   I'm getting one for sure.

Can't wait to see how this one plays out in the retail space.  I mean, it's not going to be a hit the GoPro crowd.

Yeah, it's cool and I want one.  But...

iPhone X is a for sure as I'm still on an iPhone 6.

Plus it's not geeky talking to your wrist, it's lame and so effing millennial...  That's super lame.

Pretty Cool, though I skipped through the few heats I wanted to watch.  It's an A for trying as they are getting closer to what the WSL is able to do with their surf coverage.

Lots to learn from just watching their stroke and techniques.  The commentary was also a plus with some very interesting comments.

The surf portion was just plain bogus.  I guess that passes for surf in some places, but I'd hardly call it surfing.

Downwind and Racing / Re: New unlimited designs

At this point nothing is going to revolutionize speed or ease of use.  Every design is a compromised dependent on conditions.

That article is wishful thinking at best... unless of course you're trying to talk yourself into getting an unlimited.

Sorry folks, just looked at my original post, I'm not 5'1. :-) I'm 5'10.

That's just makes it a lot easier for you to paddle a wider board like 32".

I watched most of the women's distance replay on YouTube.  Answers most of my about Annabelle.  Her Brian S. board got lost in transit. I

Also a bit of dis from Annabelle on a board she recently used.  One of my favorite brands for sure, but Annabelle definitely did not like it.

the board that will work PERFECT is the BOUNCE 10'4

There is no doubt this IS THE BOARD FOR YOU

JimK, I know you're a fan of this construction, but the website is super vague on exactly what it is.  How exactly is it constructed?  Is the foam waterproof?  I'd have to guess it would molded together like a Bic board???

SUP General / H2outlet, anyone buy from them?
« on: September 04, 2017, 10:49:13 AM »
No phone number and address, always a red flag, but they have some believable deals on boards, some the same price as other online sites.  Anyone buy from these guys?

Annabelle a free agent and not a peep from Lahui Kai after their initial offering.  Rumor was changes were coming.  I hope we see something new from Brian really soon.  I know he can't be happy just sitting on the sidelines.
