I would also add push hard to do what they ask during PT. I left out one part of my story from 3.5 years ago. He went in a second time because I had limited range. Scar tissue had formed at points that were touching too long while raw and those connections had to be severed. Once I was out, he severed a bunch of those by moving my arm through the range of motion I should have been doing (he looked in the scope to make sure that was all that was going on). Some he had to cut and he had to clean up more bits. The first few days after were every bit as painful as the first procedure. I was a bit more compliant in PT after that.

Welcome to the Zone Mr. Glide Rider. Sounds like the perfect board. 6 mph is very realist for a exuberante burst coming from 'Shit...This thing flies! Maintaining 6 mph is another thing. That 30" wide Glide is a good board that anyone at any level can use and enjoy on distance paddles.
Thanks. I went back and checked the log and 6.3 was my max and it was a straight up sprint spike; stopped and caught my breath than paddled full out until I had nothing more and then stopped. I kept a speed of a little below 5 for a fair distance and in the middle of that pushed up to 5.4 but couldn't maintain it. Then I got back on my iSUP and averaged just under 3 mph for 7 miles. The cheap iSUP has the glide profile of a tennis ball. I started paddling SUP late March (lots of prior kayak, canoe and raft experience). The demo was in late June and as mentioned earlier, I paddled 7 miles at under 3 mph on my 9'9" iSUP. By October I was paddling 10 miles in just under 3 hours on the iSUP; a speed improvement of just over 10% over a distance almost 50% further. I am not sure how that will correlate on the Glide but there should be some improvement. Still, it is not a comparatively fast 14' board. I have paddled some that are considerably faster and some people I paddled with pushed me in that direction. But I started thinking about a cooler, 3' waves and a 25 - what the heck lets make it 40 - pound king trying to drag me to Bermuda, or a passenger and gear for a day at the beach crossing an inlet between a crowded island and an uninhabited preserve with a deserted beach. But I also will hop on with just a pfd, paddle and water bottle sometimes and want some reasonable performance. And it would be nice to have no trouble keeping up with common fishing kayaks (plastic SOTs like Tridents; not performance sea kayaks) getting out to the artificial reefs. Long winded way of saying this board is a compromise, but one I think makes sense.

I have been paddling various watercraft for decades, but new to SUP. I tried it by getting a cheap iSUP that i put a couple of hundred miles on this year and decided I like it. I had been having trouble with my back and shoulders in the kayak. Anyway, I went back and forth on what to get and finally bit on a deal for a battleship - the 2016 Naish 14 x 30 Glide. I know it is way more board than I need, but I am likely to haul a lot of gear on it at times, do some open ocean fishing, sometimes carry a passenger and my balance isn't quite what it used to be. I have laid hands on it as I had to inspect it when it was delivered, but I don't officially get it until just after Christmas on my 60th birthday. I paddled one at a demo day at lake I was one during the summer and Strava claims I managed to get it above 6 mph for a short burst and over 5 for a bit longer. Most of the group paddles I go on are down below 4 mph as are my kayak fishing buddies that I will paddle with (I tell them I have evolved and stand erect now ). Paddling will mostly be in the sounds and off the beach of the southern NC coast; looking forward to doing AB to CLO for an overnight or two. One of my kids is planning to move to Greenville late summer and I will probably do a few Pamlico paddles visiting him. Also a few lakes around Raleigh, bu may still use my iSUP for a bunch of those due to logistics. Anyway, more of an intro than anything else...

It's "discuss my surgery day" on my first day on this forum. I just posted about shoulders. I had my left knee scoped 4 and a half years ago. 3 meniscus tears, fraying all around the patella, loose bits and arthritis. IME, a couple of months of PT are adequate *if* you really will do the at home exercises. I did not fully recover because he can't do anything about the arthritis. No squats, no more than a couple of flights of stairs at a time. I pretty much had to quit running. I was running 6+ miles 3 times a week before I starting pulling up lame at shorter and shorter distances. I was able to complete my one and only half marathon a few months prior, which was a goal I had set when I got serious about running about a year earlier. I was 55 at the time of surgery. Anyway, one more data point...

A little age on this topic, but just wanted to throw in a little info on my history and upcoming surgery. Three and a half years ago I had my right shoulder done; 2 tears - one 60%, one 80% - several small bone spurs, built up scar tissue and some loose matter. He sewed up the tears, ground the spurs/scars and cleaned up the loose bits. He also shaved the end of the acromium so I would be less prone to impingement. He also took some pictures of arthritis (looks like chalk marks on the end of the bones). Full recovery took about 8 months. I have surgery scheduled for my left shoulder mid January, 3 weeks after my 60th birthday. MRI shows a 65% tear in rotator cuff, smaller tear in labrum, lots of bone spurs and arthritis. He expects to find scar tissue (I let injuries heal when I was young and stupid) and is likely to shave the acromium on this one also. I am in better shape now than I was prior to the surgery on the right shoulder. Doc tells me I should be able to do some light recreational paddling late April or May and recreational touring in June. I am not a surfer; I tried to be a couple of months ago (yeah, a little freaky about this birthday and trying to prove to myself I am still young)' that was one of the things that put the nagging little pain over the top. I have been putting up with this a while. It's mostly a "push" pain and I can paddle without much trouble. The right shoulder was a "pull" pain that was much more intense. My experience and prognosis doesn't seem to be unusual: https://www.verywellhealth.com/rehab-after-rotator-cuff-surgery-2549905Full recovery after rotator cuff surgery often takes 4 to 6 months and in some cases longer. The critical factors that determine the length of the recovery are the size of the rotator cuff tear, the ability to adequately repair the tendons, and the commitment to rehabilitation. I feel for the OP; as it says in some cases it is longer. But I wanted to point out to others that it isn't always that bad. I would encourage you not to put it off (like I have had a bad habit of doing) out of fear of a very long interruption. If you are fortunate enough to have a case that isn't that severe, you can do it in the winter and not lose that much time.
