The Shape Shack / Re: Nice, simple vacuum bagging pump

Can anyone tell me if this vacuum switch will work? The one in his setup was about the same price as the pump.

The Shape Shack / Re: XPS Board Building Advantages vs EPS Foam

Enjoying the experimental build process Beasho. If I read right you used gg to laminate and then bag in some areas of the build. I’m probably wrong but I thought I read in another thread that either you or Pono stated gg isn’t meant to be waterproof and would expand and fail as water weakens it. How’s the board holding up with pumping up on foil? Any signs of delaminating?

Interesting. I just saw this video David John posted and noticed  a Ke Nalu tent at the event. Couldn’t see if there was any product though.

Yep, that jayefo belt seems to be available only in Large size. If I had a 36" waist or bigger I'd be covered.

Thanks DW! I think I’ll pass on the cork and go with plan “B”
As usual, your knowledge of board building is appreciated. Thanks for sharing it.🤙

I’m interested in hearing the feedback from those who have tried the cork deck pad material from Grainger. I’m building a new prone foil board and considering using this material for my deck pad. How is the durability/rash resistance/ grip?

I’ve only been to HR once Dwight so not as familiar as others here. While we were there we went to mount hood to see the sights. Didn’t realize that it was a mountain biking area in the off season. Looked like a lot of trails and of course the beautiful views too. Sounds like you are having a wonderful trip.  8)

If it’s your first go I would suggest going for stability over board speed. If you can’t stand up and paddle with confidence then a shorter narrower board will be a kill joy. Our open water sup race boards are 14’to 17’ long and are designed to glide on the bumps. A Downwind foil sup 5’ to 7’ isn’t gliding much at all but for the initial forward movement as you attempt to pop up on foil. BTW that pic looks totally doable! I did a Kihei run here yesterday in water with a lot less energy. Not knowing your size/weight/sup skills it would be hard to say what would work for you. Shorter and wider is what I would use for short period swells. Longer and narrower for long period . Hope that helps

I spoke with Mark R. yesterday at the harbor. He had just finished a downwinder from Maliko. I saw he had the 1099 on so I asked him about it. He said it was almost too fast for his liking. Take that for whatever you will. Going as fast as possible is not always the most fun. Surfing the bumps for all their worth can be fun and almost as fast.

The phrase (seeing is believing) comes to mind. No longer will it necessarily be true.

Hey cowboy. Get your wing over to Cozumel while you are near. Beautiful island      ( when I was there )  I had my 1 and only windsurfing session there. Still have some of the flaky white sand in a bottle here at home. Enjoy your Christmas 🎄

Wow! What a beautiful collection of memories. Thanks for sharing your experience with nature that most of us will never have in person. It looks so peaceful and surreal. My immediate thoughts of falling in and either drowning or freezing to death are making me want to build a fire and buy a fur coat.🥶😁

Foil SUP / Re: Foil SUP with the Kalama Performance E3 Downwinder boards?
« on: December 08, 2021, 08:48:50 PM »
The board I made last year ( see “pandemic project thread” ) is inspired by the kalama shape. Mine is 23.5.  And 6’ long, 5” thick. I love it for downwinders but not so much as a surf sup. I’m about 75kg. I find that for surfing with all The jockeying and maneuvering for getting in the right spot for takeoff in can be challenging. I think I would like a wider for stable board for that. Downwinding you only need to point Downwind and pop up so a narrower board is you friend as it will paddle faster. Jeremy surfs his Downwind board but he’s a bit younger and more talented than I. My 2cents
