Foil SUP / Re: Wing sizing - low vs high aspect

VB_foil, does the HS tail just loosen things up or smaller thus less drag and then faster?

Well thanks to Jim, he was able to put a new carbon blade on my shaft.  Pretty stoked!

thanks guys for the feedback.  I am not sure if there was some impact on the neck of the paddle (between blade and shaft).  the blade did break right at the connection to the shaft.  It could have had some impact on my foil, board, rocks in the past and it just gave way this session. I exchanged messages with Jim and he said that I should be able to put a new blade onto the shaft.  He also mentioned that the blade was fiberglass not carbon.  I really like the lightness and shape of this shaft so ideally want to keep it as long as i can.

Well our beaches are finally open.  Excited to legally be out on the water.  After a fun few first rides, I lean into paddle for another wave and then I hear a loud snap, then i fall in.

I am used to falling in but then i look at my paddle.  I got a solid year out of this paddle.  I am bummed as I have really gotten used to this paddle.  Oh well, will be reaching out to Jim to see what my options here are, fix or replace with newer blade.  Does anyone have opinions on the UV blade for sup foiling?  Or others as compared to the Vdrive.

Foil SUP / Re: My new Armstrong Foils
« on: May 09, 2020, 12:10:29 PM »
I started on the Armstrong at beginning of the year.  Riding a 6'6 SUP on the 1550HS/Unitail.  Really enjoying it.  I have tried a few sessions with it on a prone foil too.  I can envision that working out well too.  Its a great rig.

Foil SUP / Re: SUP Foil board weight
« on: May 04, 2020, 08:09:41 AM »
Yea I am with Sano.  I am talking small wave boards here.  If it is overhead i am probably not foiling but prone surfing. I guess this is a reasonable range to expect, in the mid teens.  Mine seems like on the upper end especially when compared to Beasho's L41.

Wonder what the production Kalama boards weigh.  Is Lloydliving around, I know he has a couple Kalamas.

Foil SUP / SUP Foil board weight
« on: May 02, 2020, 09:57:32 AM »
So recently I have had a lot of time to stare at my equipment and contemplate how to optimize it.  I am on my second foil sup.  Went from a 7'9 to a 6'6.  The 6'6 has ~125l and weighs 17lbs.  My first one was a lot heavier due to its size.  But was wondering as these boards are now in the 6' range are they all pretty similar weights.

Anyway wanted to see what others' boards weigh.  Don't know if dropping board dimensions would significantly drop the weight.

Thanks, now i am going back to staring at my dry equipment :)

Classifieds / Armstrong 70cm Fuselage
« on: March 30, 2020, 01:17:09 PM »
Near new condition.  Used for couple of months.  Some minor scuffs from where it connected to the mast, very superficial.  Great for stability (learning, tow in and winging). $350

Here is what Arnie says:
The TC70 is our most popular fuselage length in our range for the all round rider. The longer length gives more overall stability and provides a more powerful pumping action.
The Armstrong HEX Fuselage is a ground breaking work of art in terms of engineering and design.
The fuselage has a solid Titanium core running throughout its length. The core is then shrouded in 5mm solid wall Carbon tube. The multi wing HEX fitting for the mast and front wing gives 360 degree surface contact, maximising the load distributing area.
This unique fuselage construction easily handles the highly leveraged opposing flex loads as the mast and wings are directly keyed into the Titanium core, taking your ride to the next level. Weight: 425g

Hey Beasho
Love the dashboards.  Where are you getting the raw data from?  I am an analytics guy too.  Are your dashboards out in cloud for others to refresh or play with?  thanks.

Beasho, i found a dataset out on the Kaggle site.  Pretty cool info.

Hey Ratbeachrider
What size prone board did you start on?  Was it a dedicated foil board or a converted board?  thanks.
