Foil SUP / Re: Gofoil humming problem
« on: April 19, 2018, 10:21:44 AM »
Thanks for all the replies.
I have received an email from Alex, explaining what to look for.
He says to
look for rounded surface of the wings trailing edges in the last 1/4 inch. You need to correct this by sanding a concave or straighter release in the last one inch. But put a straight edge on the trailing surface of the last one inch top and bottom and see if you see a rounded direction at the edge.

I will look at mine next week when home.

Top bloke Alex.

Interesting responses
Is there any people who have a gofoil that is quiet....?
It would be interesting to see what the ratio is from quiet to noisy.
Noise genrated would be inefficient an have a slight drag effect.
I am just thinking that the trailing edge of the rear wing in the middle where its square is where it is coming from.
I will be able to do some testing next wk when home.

Foil SUP / Gofoil humming problem
« on: April 18, 2018, 02:50:48 AM »
Hi
Recently bought a gofoil maliko 200 over the moon with the quality.
I have got out on the foil from brand new so no damage,i had one small ride on the foil but she hum's.
Does anybody no the fix for this? Both wings are tight, but the rear only tightens up in the last 4mm, i suspect the rear wing.
Any ideas how to stop it humming?
Thanks
Steve

Foil SUP / Re: I need to put a foil box into a board, how do I do it?
« on: April 15, 2018, 06:30:20 PM »
Hi pono bill
Yep it works the same with a turtle box the only difference is that I use a block at the front and back of the turtle, balsa at about 19mm thick straight down to the deck and resigned in between the ply, very strong.
I have made about 12 boards the only time I have had a failure is at the beginning when I just relied on the carbon to hold the boxes with no timber.
Hope this helps.

Could you post up a photo of this.  I think I understand what you are describing.
Thanks, Tare

Yep I will post  a pick here.
The blocks can be pine or what ever you have lying around they will be epoxyed to the deck, plywood, foam & hull.
This pic is just a mock up and no sizes are correct.
I prefer to use fin boxes for it gives me a little adjustment and I can get the correct  angle of attack with a carbon wedge.
Cheers

That's pretty cool Scuba, though the plywood is just anchored to EPS. Still, that looks like a very strong and much cheaper way to go, PVC foam is damned expensive. I'll try that. Should work with Tuttles as well

Since my Foilmount failed, I'm going to remove that and do it the right way this time.  Does anyone make a foil track cassette yet?  I don't want tuttle, so not going there.  If no one makes a track cassette, how does one go about doing it themselves?  Does it need to go all the way to the top of the board like a tuttle install?  Info much appreciated!
Hi Sharksupper
I have always used 3mm ply wood, just use a circular saw to the depth that you want,
I generally go 3 inches deep then sink the wood in with epoxy,
then rout out for the fin boxes and resin them into the wood.
Then glass over the top.
I have always used this technique, for my kite surfing board, having run aground at 40kph still no sign of move ment.
I use this technique on my sup too.
I wouldn't bother with devinercell is still just a foam.....not a timber.
Have a look at the pic.
Cheers

The Shape Shack / Re: Building a short board what size do you reckon?
« on: April 14, 2018, 03:30:46 AM »
No surprise with this genre of shape that my Mallet design with "Chisel Tail" is within 0.11 liters of your volume on your last design iteration at your dims...

http://blog.surfingsports.com/2015/01/mallet-sup-2.html

Personally, I think that you took out a little too much nose scoop with your last iteration...I'd add back in at least an inch...same with tail scoop...at your weight on such a short board...you are going to bury the nose with water washing over it...not much real estate in front of standing area...

Attached is a board that we just finished for a guy a little bigger than you...but, he is also using it to windSUP and windFoil...so, he needs to be able to uphaul on it...

Thanks for the input.
Great looking boards by the way.
I realised that the rocker was not right after posting.
I have gone 3" 1/2" front an 1" tail rocker.
What should I do with the bottom to make it track as best I can?
I will probably run with the beveled rails as suggested.
Was thinking of a single concave to double concave at the tail.

Cheers

Thanks for all the replies :D

With the beer thing, I drink pints of Hop Hog which is an IPA from Feral brewing co Western Australia, if you see it anywhere try it, its the bomb.

Thanks for the photos of the blank Anonsurfer and the info on the rocker, great pics of the rails.

I have redrawn the board, I was going down the route of the latest Dave Kalama board.

I have reduce the rocker to 3" and made the thing more like a Mc'donalds tray( square) :o.

I just want it to track well even though its a short board, I was going to run a single concave running into a double concave at the tail.
Any other ideas to make it track well?
I see that Dave's new board has some sort of fin at the front of his board?.

Thanks again for your help

Foil SUP / Paddling a short board
« on: March 19, 2018, 12:58:26 AM »
Help needed    PLEASE

I have built myself a 7'6" x 30" board to take a foil, I have also made a foil.

The problem I have is paddling the board, If I really dig in and paddle I cant really stop the board from turning away from the paddle.

I have practiced the paddle technique where you are pulling from a 45º angle at about 2 oclock to the board
But man its hard, I was considering putting fins in the back of the board to give me a little more tracking, or change the rail shape, or fitting channels to the bottom of the board.......
Ho did you guys that can foil manage at the start?.
To be honest I would struggle on my other boards to catch a wave, other boards 10'5" wide point and a 11'6" nalu.
I need more time on the ocean for a start to get my sea legs back.....Lol.
Thanks for your help & ideas.

Where in the pugett sound are you riding ? Are you doing downwinders?
Hi Dc surf

Would you know the measure of the 2 wings?
I know they call the size by the square mtrs.
But what would the wing span, chord & thickness be of the biggest wing?

Thanks for your help

Steve
