My guess given the location is that is Ikaika Kalama. Could be wrong though.

Clay answered, Kainoa McGee.

Maine photographer Nick Lavecchia of Maine

Did you notice that he was from Maine, That's in New England, Maine to be specific.

Blame all typos on me.  I retyped this for the newsletter...and blew it.  Teach me not to copy/paste  :D

Well, we sent out two in one week, but I didn't think there would be any complaints  :)

Clay sent over this shot, and I wanted to share it pronto.  Also, some unsolicited props to Clay and the gang for the work they are doing over at Stand Up Journal.  For a new sport like ours to have a top rate mag like this is really unusual and...well, lucky.  I got to see the PDF for the next issue, and it was all I could do not to share it here ;D.  The last issue was IMO really strong, but this thing is a freakin' mind blower.

Anyways, on to the 'Sup.

This gem came to us super last minute as we went to press with the Spring issue. If we'd gotten it a few days earlier we might have wiped out a couple more shots to make this a two-page spread. It was taken by Maine photographer Nick Lavecchia of Maine during his annual trip to the North Shore. -Clay Feeter, Publisher of Standup Journal www.standupjournal.com

Good discussion.

Is length the most important factor?  Is there one most important factor?  I would say no.  It seems like in going small, the other dimensions are often getting pushed beyond where we might want them, all in the name of the shortest possible ride.  But that is good, in that it makes us reevaluate what is working and where we have gone too far.  Was it worth it to whack off that nicely pulled nose and go with a snubby?  Is 4.5 too thick?  Was that narrower longer tail better than the new blunt with wingers?  Is the range of the board now too small or just right?

I see a lot of people here that are now migrating back up a bit, but not unhappily.

How funny- I wonder if it was me? And they have a chest mount now? I'd really like to get my hands on that!

It was you, bro.  I wasn't sure if they were aware of how much standup paddlers were into their stuff, so I mentioned it, and sure enough we move over to a porta player and up comes a photo of you crouching to get in.  Great shot, and umistakeble.  Then a shot of Chuck, and then one that was harder to tell because of lighting, but it looked like some of the shots Blane has been posting and the colors were all Hawaii.

The chest attachment looked good.  From memory, it has an around the chest band and over the shoulder bands with the mount at the center chest where the bands meet.  The bands were all wide and elastic.  Designed for snow/ski I believe, but...

Sure NW, I will ask about spares, but it looked like they had mostly minimal display stuff wih them.

Heh Paddlesurf,

This is pretty funny.  Chan and I are in Vegas for SIA.  So we walk in and one of the first booths we see is Go Pro.  Hahh!  Before we introduced ourselves, we got to see some pictures of you and Chuck Patterson, and one that I think was Blane.

Cool guys, and a good looking chest mount as well.

Peace.

Pretty stoked on this little camera.  It is the Pentax W60.  It is super small and light (don't notice it at all in a hip pocket), is waterproof with no housing, has a reasonable zoom so its not all wide, and it is truly one button shooting.

We're on the 9th island for a few days and are already missing home.

Yeah, this was a spot cruise.  Started in Tavares Bay and out to Nori's, then to Kuau/Mama's, and finally Sunrise.  I tried to take a shot of the boils at Kuau, but they didn't work out.

I looked at the AM forecast and saw 1-2 feet and almost skipped it.  No wind, though.  Gave it a second thought and headed down for a peek.  Pulled in and didn't see anyone, but it was so calm, I figured I would paddle around for a bit.

I was glad I did right off  - No Ka Oi:

Up the way I saw some guys were already out:

Better yet, there was some head high coming in a little further over:

Went over for some of that, and sat to take it in for a minute.

A few friends paddled out.  Shared some waves with Daddy Dog.  Then Brenda and Mark came up.  Mark let me check out the new paddle he is producing.  Very cool.

Anyhow, a quick paddle turned into 3 hours.

Nothin beats it!
