Worth a look, but didn't Leleo Kinimaka blaze this trail last year?

I just saw this vid of the 3rd Steinlager event at Kewalos.  Looks like Kai Sallas won both Stand Up and Longboard.  Unreal.

SUP General / Stand Up Zone turns one
« on: July 06, 2008, 10:18:43 AM »
Well, for whatever its worth, this week marks our first year together.  I have to admit, I have really enjoyed waking up, grabbing a coffee, and seeing what is new in the stand up world.  A huge thanks to you all for sharing your stoke, humor and knowledge, which have made this site a real pleasure.  The whole experience has entirely exceeded our expectations.

Here's to year two.

SUP General / ....into July
« on: July 05, 2008, 07:34:06 AM »
Yesterday, 4th of July, shoulder high sets, no wind all morning.  Should be packed, but after over a month of pretty much straight waves, only 3-4 peeps out at many spots.  When we paddled away from our peak, we left two guys on it (two smiling guys  :D).  This has been one helluva stretch.

The Maliko gig is in one week and we have only done one run on our new boards.  Choices, choices.  I have to say, I feel guilty not using waves when they are here, but...today for sure.

Go July!!!!

SUP General / Sergiorio.com
« on: June 20, 2008, 07:59:20 AM »
Just a quick post to aquaint you with another member of the Maui watersports community that has been supporting our sport through his time, effort, and great photos.  Check out Sergio at:

www.sergiorio.com (some great photos of Dave Kalama there).

He steadily rotates through shots of Stand Up (and other sports) on his site.

Moreover, Sergio is always one of most pleasant guys in the lineup and absolutely blows up on a shortboard.  He said that this is his summer to start stand up, and once again it seems that this sport attracts the best people.

SUP General / June, gotta love it
« on: June 19, 2008, 06:41:04 AM »
This is the right kind of start for a summer!  Two back to back long running swells that sent good surf which has spread out to most of our breaks on the South.  That has meant pretty uncrowded fun sized surf with happy (if not exausted) people.  Best part, when they called for it to decline, it got bigger.  Best start to a summer in years.

yeeeeeeaaaahhhhhhh!

SUP General / Good times on Oahu
« on: June 07, 2008, 07:22:03 PM »
We are having a great visit to Oahu!

First off, Chan competed in the China competition today at Queens and advanced out of a very tough field to the Semi Finals, which will be held tomorrow.  Yeahhh Chan!  24 women with ultra impressive skills competed in Stand Up.  Maka Puaa, a great surfer, generally awesome person, and friend from Maui also advanced and will be in Chan's next heat.  Go Ladies!

OK, enough proud husband stuff.  There has been a really fun swell running.  The HASA State finals were yesterday at Bowls.  Slater Trout took fifth in Stand Up, second in Menehune Longboard.  The boy rips!  Candice Appleby finished second overall (the only gal in a field of Men).  She scored some insane waves.  She also advanced in today's competion at Queens so more on that later.

Aside from Cheerleading and shooting video, I was able to surf to exaustion each day and had the opportunity to surf with Evan a few days back, and Nate and Bill today.  Reeeeeping!

Anyways, send good vibes to our Wahine, and I hope you are all scoring some fun surf.

Randy

SUP General / Good Weekend Cast
« on: June 03, 2008, 07:17:41 AM »
Pat Caldwell:

Surf along south facing shores will be 2 to 4 feet tonight, increasing to heights of 3 to 5 feet Tuesday.

...a new long period south swell is expected to arrive by Friday night. The surf produced by this new swell is expected to approach the high surf advisory threshold along south facing shores Saturday.

Glenn James:

Southern hemisphere storms and gales, which were active in the area near New Zealand last week, will keep small to locally medium surf breaking along our south facing beaches through the next several days. One particularly deep storm late last week will send us a more generous swell later this week. We will find this larger swell arriving by the weekend, which will initiate a prlonged period of good south shore surfing. This coming weekend’s south swell, according to the NWS office Honolulu, may reach high surf advisory levels.
