The Shape Shack / Foil Madness
« on: November 07, 2022, 04:57:21 AM »
Hi guys,

I have been geeking out with a new VR headset (Quest Pro) and I am learning Gravity Sketch (free app).  I am a beginner with GS, just through the tutorial, but it is so cool.  You can freely create and manipulate objects in your real world environment.  Finished files can be sent on to manufacturing, 3D printing, mold making, etc.

I downloaded a foil section to play with from one of the thousands available online.  Imported the image to GS, Traced it, duplicated it and surfaced it (and then detached the surface).  Each section can be morphed, as can the whole.  It can be sliced, or cut into for attachments, hardware etc.

These new headsets allow you to work in a variety of virtual spaces (grey loft in images) or in your real world environment.  You can switch back and forth as desired.  Manipulating a virtual object freely in your real world environment is shockingly cool (or maybe that's just me? :) ).  Oh, and you can collaborate in real time with others anywhere in the world and switch off model control, etc.  Spectacular!

Prone Foiling, Surf foiling, Pump Foiling / Swim Missiles
« on: October 18, 2022, 04:36:13 AM »
Hi Guys,

Stoked to be getting started on something new.  I have been enjoying a lot of pool time this year and I want to move that into the beautiful outdoors and make better use of our Gorge waters.  Roll Columbia!  Chan wants to keep me company so we are having two swim missiles shaped :). The basic idea is a reduced prone paddleboard with foil tracks.  I wont be standing or kneeling at all, so these will be belly boards.  My goal is to have them be as fast paddling as possible with no real standing balance or leg pumping requirements.  When/where foiling is possible, that will all need to be done with arm power, board and foil efficiency, and swell assistance.  I do think and hope that some pumping assist will be possible (once foiling) with arms and upper body motion, but the extent of that remains to be seen.  I don't envision 18 minute foiling stretches but any foiling glides sound like a great bonus right now.  This will all be fast in comparison to my 1.5 MPH in the pool :).  Flat water cruising sounds fun as well.

The Axis 1310 is what I am leaning towards on a 75 carbon mast with a standard Fuse. Axis guys (Evan and James) suggested those for my purpose.  Open to opinions.

The smile at the end of the last clip has me stoked.  I am hoping we can get there with improved design and somewhat less scramble.  Anyways, here goes.

Classifieds / Skeeta Foiling Sailboat for Sale.
« on: July 01, 2022, 05:24:33 AM »
Hi Guys,

Change of plans.  I am going to be selling this boat.  It is still unused.  If you or anyone you know have interest, please let me know.  The boat is in hood river, is complete as ordered with an 8.5 rig and is all ready to sail.  It has never seen any water time, so it is truly as new.  The USA distributor is still waiting for more boats to arrive.  Each container has sold out.  I am asking $11,000.  I paid $12,685 plus shipping in the Fall.

Sailboat Foiling / AC 75 derivative boats
« on: June 01, 2022, 01:21:34 PM »
The AC 75 boats looked so wild and impossible a few years ago.  Then they became reality and blew minds.  So cool to watch, if not a bit disorienting.  I am loving some of the offshoots that this has inspired.  Check out this Flying Nikka.  Keel added for more manageability and offshore promise.  Stoked to see where this goes.

As we head into 2022, it feels like we are on the cusp of the next step in our digital evolution.  Oculus and the likes were a consumer level glimpse but the real goods are prepped to arrive this upcoming year.  It is time for this next science fiction to replace the current science fiction.   We are in for a wild ride.

Sailboat Foiling / Foiling Sailboats!
« on: October 14, 2021, 11:39:26 AM »
Oh look, a new board on the forum.  Humor me.   :)

After a season on the bike, I have the foiling bug again.  Yeah, the legs have gone to shit but, se la vie.  I had been eyeing foiling moths a few years back but never pulled the trigger.  Recently, I came across this little foiler (Cobra produced) that looks super fun to me.  I am going to give it a go.  More forgiving that the Moths and a lot less fiddly.  Still can do 20 mph and can foil in 6 knots.  Can be surface sailed with plugs rather than foils, so I can teach the grandkids as well.

Man, does this thing look fun!  What an insanely overbuilt little tank of an off roader.  The top model has 4 motors (each with its own controller), a dual piston Hydraulic disc brake on each wheel, regenerative braking, and 2 more motors on the cart if you want.  This would be a great downwind self shuttle, beach tote, whatever.  It gets my 8 year old inner self ramped up.

Random / The perfect steak?
« on: June 17, 2021, 08:24:50 AM »
I am wide open to the notion that there may not be one perfect steak or steak recipe.  Steak can be a little like cheese in that respect.  As soon as it is in my mouth it is my favorite (again).  Hello Taleggio.  Even so, I am going to throw this out there as a strong contender.  I love to grill but holy shmoly.
