I visited Oahu twice last year a week in October and December. The problem I had was finding SUPs for rent and the ones I found were in real poor condition. In October I gave up renting a sup and rented a long board from Moku surf shop. The staff were friendly and they open at 6am, rentals are super cheap. In December I had enough of the crowds at Queens and Canoes so I rented a sup all week from Moku and paddled way out to Pops which had no crowd. The sup was beat up but I made the most of it. I couldn’t find anywhere to rent a sup on the north shore.
Actually, I did and he said they do not rent Sups for surfing anymore. I think he has a shop near a river or calm body of water and I believe they rent sups but not for the ocean.
Did you try Blue Planet??? Oops, I reread the original post and see that Blue Planet has stopped renting SUPs. I'd call Robert anyway and see if he has something stashed.

Nice video SC! Amazing how LBI floods. Kudos to you for getting out on the 16th, I surfed yesterday it was much smaller but perfect conditions! Regarding winter surfing in NJ, popular breaks get crowded and I’ve made trips to NY beaches over the years after a Nor’easter during a weekday and I avoid the known spots due to crowds.

Hey Jeff, sorry to hear your dealing with the ear infection. Good your wearing ear plugs I had ear surgery in both ears several years ago, had about 80-90% bone growth. I’m your age but surfing since 1980 and and rarely wore ear plugs.
My wife has chronic sinus issues, it seems every time the barometric pressure changes she suffers. She just went to a ent doc he is sending her for a cat scan.
Hope you feel better, sorry we didn’t hookup on the last swell hopefully soon. Take care.

Nice video SC! Sand bars initially got funky after Ian here in northern nj but last week a couple days were perfect. I was too pressed for time to deal with the SS.

Thanks TD! Yes, still like the destroyer a lot. Water temps in nj this summer was erratic, just when you thought temps were warming up a steady south wind produced upwelling and temps dropped to the 50’s. While this is not an unusual occurrence it occurred more this summer from my memory.

Right on SurfinJ! I’ve always been an early riser so no issues getting out when it’s still dark.

Thanks LR! Riding 8’10 JL Destroyer. I agree mid next week for better conditions in northern NJ.
Thanks NW, actually the tide got too deep towards the end of the session.

Hi all, Got out at first light hoping to catch some small clean waves before the tide got too deep. Air was cold, water warm, beautiful morning. https://youtu.be/k0EdBV0H8bMIt appears today will be the last clean day (wind wise) for about a week.

Nice SC! You certainly paid your dues to get a few nice waves. I like using your paddle to lean the sup on, good idea.

I’ve been riding my destroyer as a thruster using the JL stock side fins but a 4” true ames fin in the center, I really like this setup.
