I have given up on pumping for now. When I am losing speed I just try to turn back the other way. Often the turn gives me back enough speed to keep on foiling. I can't tell if it is because the wave was better behind me or if there is something about turning that gives more power. If there is something about the Takuma's design that makes pumping less effective that is a shame because it would come in handy. I need some nice four foot days. No need to worry about slowing down and coming off foil with the extra wave power. Two foot waves take more skill than I have.

I can pump a little for help staying on a wave, but I don't get close to enough forward momentum to fly 50 feet without help from wave power. I can't find any video's of Takuma foils being pumped back out or pumped on flat water. The videos showing this are mostly Go foils, or Naish.

Turns out Takuma is finally getting boards into the U.S. for the general public, so I am getting one of those instead.
Thanks

Hi, After 6 sessions I can foil OK but I just can't stand on my board in any chop, so I am looking for a more stable board. Would a Simsup L41 8'0" by 32" by 4.5" 135 liter be stable when just standing in the chop? Thanks.

Surf report looks good so I am continuing with step two:

Shop guy's educated guess was 190 liters. Huge.

It is a super lightweight board so I am wondering if I should add a layer of fiberglass to the underside of the top skin before I add high density foam. Then I will glass the 18 oz. on the bottom, drill my holes and use epoxy with filler to seal. Is it worth an extra layer on the underside of the top or will the high density foam be enough?

I was going to do the lamp tube idea, but when I got under the delam area I discovered lots of wetness, so I ended up with this.

My foilmount is delaminating the bottom skin of my board after two sessions, maybe because i punched eight holes in the bottom of my board by using bolts which were too long. Since I know where I want the foil, I am thinking the easiest option, as I have no skills, will be to just bolt the foil to the board. How will I stop the board from collapsing when I tighten the bolts? Can I just epoxy in four pvc pipes from bottom to top of board? Maybe put big washers on top to spread the load? Thanks

Contact Takuma, there have been a lot of bent masts. You are not the first. Hopefully they will replace it. Report back and let us know....
Thanks, you were right. They are sending me a new one. I am pleasantly surprised.

That didn't work, I picked up my whole SUV. How did I bend it in the first place? Without breaking the foilmount?
New idea: I'll shim one side and make it straight, then twist the plate in the foilmount to deal with the twist. Tomorrow I'll pick up some longer bolts and washers. Maybe I can keep riding while I wait for another mast.

Here is probably what the inside of the mast looks like. Most extruded strut and airfoil blade profiles have continuous rounded channels where the screws go.

So maybe I can cut it and tap the tubes for the bolts. I have another idea I think I'll try first. There is a guy at work that bent my dead blow hammer my using it to move a crate by wedging it underneath and lifting the end. Maybe I can get the edge of the mounting plate on the foil under a tire on my truck. Or maybe I can borrow a man hole cover, put the lip of the plate under that and then park on top.

It's bolted but I doubt the mast is threaded all the way through. It is only bent in the last 3 inches next to the base plate, so maybe worth a look.
Looks like Houston Kiteboarding is out of 60 cm replacement masts so I may be stuck for a while.

Hi, Lot's of great info on here, thanks for that.
I bent the mast on my Takuma, do I need to replace? Is it possible to bend it back? Anybody been in this situation and fixed it? I'll probably try to ride it like this but I expect catching waves with the twist in the mast might make it more difficult.
