Some mind blowing stuff. The Cuillin is a pretty special place, the hike is exposed enough, riding it on a bike - no thank you!

Gear Talk / Which board and paddle combo?
« on: September 30, 2013, 04:03:18 PM »
Looking to get a new board and perhaps a new paddle. Currently paddle an old Naish Glide 12. Did a few races this year, liked it but could benefit from something quicker (need all the help I can get!). Probably 14 foot, would be used for recreational racing, light downwinding and general cruising. A lot of the paddling I do is in light chop with boat wakes. I'm 6', 170 lb. Came up with the following choices

1) NSP touring coco 14 + Ke Nalu paddle

2) 2013 Naish Glide 14 AST + $300ish paddle (suggestions?)

3) Wait for a 2014 Naish Glide 14 AST and stick with my current paddle (Naish carbon shaft/white glass blade DJ reviewed previously http://www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Stand-Up-Paddle/SUP/The-new-Naish-paddle/)

Any advice? Alternative suggestions within budget (<<$2k)? Especially interested in the downwind capabilities of the NSP. Read some positive things from davidjohn and viatormundi but not much else.

Cheers!

Gear Talk / Stick or hit?
« on: August 31, 2012, 10:24:41 PM »
Currently own a C4 10 6 iSup (first board) and a Amundson 12 6 TRX (like but don't love), 99% flat water/wind swell but SUSed (on the iSUP) for the first time a few weeks ago and loved it. Would like to surf more  (realistically only going to be 2-3x/year) and thinking would get more out of it on a more suitable board. Seriously thinking about selling one (would sell the TRX first) or both boards and picking up something else, was thinking of the Nalu 10 10 - seems like a good compromise of flat water and surf performance. Demo'd it today and liked it although was windy so didn't really get good impression of it's flat water speed. Wife's on my case so don't want to be frivolous, does this make sense or does anyone have any better suggestions? Should I be content with what I already have? I'm 6 ft 180 lb.

Looking for input from anyone who owns/tried above board. Couple of good blog reviews of the board but very limited user feedback including only one thread on the forum (http://www.standupzone.com/forum/index.php?topic=8242.0). Looks like a great board for what I'm looking for (http://www.standupzone.com/forum/index.php?topic=13196.0), especially for the price.
Cheers...

Gear Talk / Naish Glide 12 vs Starboard SUPer 12 6 vs ?
« on: September 05, 2011, 09:21:55 PM »
First post and apologies for another which board thread, just seeking a bit of advice. Bought a 10 6 C4 iSUP at the beginning of the year and have been out on it as much as possible. Live in Vancouver, conditions are mostly flat but it often gets choppy, is a lot of boat traffic and some moderate wind/tidal swell at the right times. Feel comfortable on the board and manage to keep dry most of the time. I'm 183cm and 180-190 lb.

Storage no longer an issue so looking to add another board. Have enjoyed most getting out when there's a bit of a swell and can try to catch little runners so would really love a board that performed well under these conditions. Get to Tofino every now and then so something that could surf would be a bonus but doesn't figure too high in my decision. Lastly, have a 6 month old daughter that would love to take out in years to come so having a board that would be suitable would be great but seeing how this is a while off yet it's more of an after thought.

That said, I've read quite a lot and like the sound of the Naish Glide 12 and Starboard SUPer (Cruiser) 12 6. Also, read some positive things about the Big Easy although I guess less performance orientated?

Any thoughts on these boards or any other recommendations would be appreciated. Seems to be a few reasonable end of year deals around at the moment and if anyone within a few hours drive has anything they were considering selling I'd be interested to hear.

Thanks!
Liam
