I've found that if you like the 370 then the 350 progressive works perfect. I'm currently using the 999 work crazy short fuselage 350 rear and 75 cm mast metal.
The progressives don't pump as well as the 370 to me but they allow for way more glide so give and take. Plus way more speed with the progressives.

Looking to upgrade my foil - still learning - is the 920 still decent for winging and sup foiling or do I look elsewhere in the Axis lineup? I weight 168 lbs, rising a 98 litre board. Regards

I use the 920 in my schools, great beginner sup and wing foil. Plus you can find them used for a good deal.

Try riding the 999 all the way in the rear of the track. I ride all my other foils way forward but the 999 is special and likes to be far back.

What foil are you on? Traditional low aspect foils tend to create more lift with added speed and breach easily when over powered. The flatter high aspect stuff just goes faster.

Different stance, weight forward or rear foot, speed that you ride at, ECT.... All those things make a big difference in what rear wings work correctly.
Which makes recommendations difficult! Argh, I might just have to see how the 380 works for me and take it from there but it sounds like it's going to be on the small side for me, even at 65kg, unless it's moderate breeze or more...
Keeping a close eye on this thread so thanks for feeding your experiences back everyone. Tempted to order a second, larger tail to pair the 380, to arrive with the 999 though...

You'll be surprised with the low end of the 999, I feel it easily has the low end of the 1010. I'm still amazed that it puts out so much glide and lift for such a small wing.

I've found using the rear shim helps with the stall at lower speeds. I was having the same issue with the 980 V1 and once I added the shim, the stall went away so now I ride all the black series stuff with the shim. I like the 370 with the 999. Rear wings are as important as the front wing. Different stance, weight forward or rear foot, speed that you ride at, ECT.... All those things make a big difference in what rear wings work correctly.

Quick question for 999 riders - I've got a 380 coming with mine but thinking about the best way to extend the low end range for winging. Does the 999 respond well to having a larger tail (say a 420 or even 460?) or is speed everything, so keeping it small the best way forward?

I've found that if you put a bigger rear wing on that you'll get the lower end lift but then you'll also be slower riding. The 999 is very effecient with crazy low end so with a little practice, I don't think you'll need that bigger rear.

After a short shake of my faith and a head reset I’ve had two good sessions. Still no jibe but the Alan Cadiz videos have me trying things and progressing around that.

Gong Curve XL is a damn fine intermediate wing. I’ve decided to ride it in all conditions until I have jibes. It’s fast enough, smooth and controllable and I can ride fully powered on a 3.5m and not breach. No need to introduce variables right now. Adding another fuse and setting up my 1450 for surf foil.

Swell riding in short bursts, super fun. Foot switches from switch to toe side (in prep for a toeside to heelside jibe) and also yesterday’s light wind session really had me feeling confident riding the foil in chop and managing direction and pitch. (Under 17-18 is now light whereas it once was my standard so that’s progress too.)

On the way back to shore (switch stance) I was way upwind so I surfed swell and ran downwind a bit switch. Crazy feeling but very doable.

The big thing I that I flagged the wing and pumped for probably 75-100 feet. This is a big deal as one of my hopes is that I’ll build skills on wing that transfer to the surf. So for the next few sessions swell surfing and pumping are a focus. I’m pretty sure that both will make transitions possible eventually. And even without strong transitions these skills will make downwinders (with the local B team) possible. Though I will remain forever “under review” with Hdip for my lake propensity.

Winging is fun. If you live near a lake or river and the wind hits 15mph even a couple of times a month, buy a 6m wing and get into it. It’s a blast.

If you're able to pump down wind, just do the same to get the jibe. It's all about the foil. Grabbing the wing too soon is the issue for beginners attempting the jibe. The wing will give push back that you will not notice and it'll slow the foil enough for it to stall and drop.

I'll be out there for the event also with the Axis crew. Coming in the 5-12th. Hope to meet everyone and learn some new tricks.

Nice video Flkiter,

If you dont mind, a couple of follow up questions.

What was the volume of that board to your weight?  It looks like you were doing good in the lighter winds, does that method get easier with more wind?  Can that be done with more of a sinker board (less volume)?

Thanks again

Hey tuna,
It is a 4'8 at 79 liters. More wind always helps and yes you can do the same on a sinker board but it will need a good amount of wind to get you moving forward. Once you can get a board planning some then it's easier to get up on it. I was in some light winds with a small board to show that it'll be easier with a bigger board and more wind.

Here's a vid I did on getting up switch stance. Helps with getting up regular stance also for those learning.. Basically get some speed, lift in the wing and get to your feet with them in a sup stance, not surf.  I did it on a 4'8 79 liter board in about 12 mph.

Dwight takes way better care of gear than I do for sure. He even lets them dry before packing. It's a rarity for me to not have patches in a wing. I've found today that with the extra power that going a size smaller is no problem. As Dwight said about the windows being light, I don't notice any swing weight from them. I'm bad with getting speed comparisons but I'm sure Dwight will get info soon.

Wingsurfing, Windfoiling, Wingfoiling, Wing SUP / Ensis score review

I didn't want to piggyback on the strike CWC so here's some info on the score. Better up wind, windows are usable, handles are stiffer and a nice up grade. The outline was changed so it's less likely to catch wing tips. Great for freestyle as balz has proven. Tighter canopy so it's a snappier power grab.  The leash has a safety enclosure. 3.5 was super tame in over 25 knots of wind. Was even able to flakka with it with no issues.
Now the why didn't they correct this before release stuff, I already tore the Velcro from the leash extension, the strut dips in jibes so it's designed for tacking. Caught it a few times in waves with the 3.5 due to the tail dropping. So you have to hold it high for that style of riding. Bags still suck.

So overall they're a nice upgrade and if you're ready for a performance wing or new ensis, you'll be really happy with these. I would of really liked if they came with the Cabrinha handles but maybe next season.
