I'm with PonoBill on using one foil and just switching wings. I tell people getting into kite foiling the same thing, find a foil that you like how it rides and then build your quiver around it. As far as getting on a full sinker board to start with, I would get used to using a bigger board first, then drop down in size.

That was a great day to test out the 6, DW's boards made the foil feel like I was actually surf foiling a small prone in the small wind swell. I found with the 6 above me, I could pump forever. The 6 is a very manageable wing, the pump of the rear hand was long, slow, and powerful. The smaller wings seem to be a quicker pump action which I feel is due to them catching less wind. The wing only flipped over once when I crashed and was a little bit of a struggle to flip back over, had to be more to a wing tip but still way easier than some smaller wings I've tested. Really good low end and like all the F1's unlimited high end. Was also very easy to change direction and move around. If you're in Florida conditions and want two wings. The 6 and then a 3.5 or 4.2 will work great or just the 5 as one all around. Just my opinion for my 160 lbs. I've been on the 6 one other time and about 6-8 mph (13 Chrono falling out) I was able to get on foil with a 1020 Axis. The deflate valve on the strut is also a nice touch with the recommended PSI on the wing as well.

Foil SUP / Re: Paddle length with a foil?

On the quick blade site, there's a graph for size blade and height of paddle to weight and height ratio. I found it to be pretty spot on for me.

I notice if I'm on the Axis 1020, I get more pressure in the handles due to its speed than I do with the 1000 which is way faster. I rode the Neil Pryde large yesterday and it was a bit of an in between of the two Axis foils in regards to getting on foil and speed of riding and hand pressure but, the pump in the ocean swell wasn't as good as ether of the Axis foils. I'm still in the thinking of people are going to have to buy what works for their ability, weight and conditions. Marketing sucks since all the companies say the same thing about their products.

The only thing that I could see being a benefit is a foil that rides waves as good as they do now and have better up wind speed. I'm dropping to some smaller boards soon so hopefully that'll speed things up a bit for me. I feel like I'm the freight truck on the water as the kite foilers are like cars passing me by. I wouldn't want to give up surf ability for speed since riding waves and swell is where it's at for me.

Just had some nice winds down here in Miami the other day blowing over 20 knots. Was lit on the 5 and my friends had a sling wing and an ozone 4, they were on the struggle bus so I let them use my 5, both up and riding easily. I went on the 4 wasp and I was riding that struggle bus also so I jumped on the 3.5 swing and it felt like 2X the power of the wasp. Rode with no issues and feels like the little wings punch a huge punch of power but just lack a little in the wind shadows due to less height for the wing to catch upper wind I'm guessing.

I just realized something that might help those trying to get used to switching feet. Start on your weak side foiling. Then while riding heal side, switch to toe side and then do your jibe. If you're comfortable on your weak side, the foot switching will get way easier. It can also be easier for some to do a back side turn to heal side as it's easier for others to do a heal side turn to toe side.

I'm finding I use two techniques, a pump down, switch feet technique and a speed load the foil style. I'm coming from years of kite foiling with a 20 liter or smaller board so I'm used to having to do stuff quickly but with the sup and prone foil boards, it's like slow motion with regards to the board and foils reaction time. If you pump the board down then it'll come back slowly giving you time to switch your feet. Think of the pump down is you throwing the nose down with your toes. You don't have to be perfect because the boards have a bigger sweet spot and the wing can be over head providing lift. Don't look at the board and come off your up wind line a little so the wing doesn't pull you off the board or just keep the wing high to not get pull and just lift. If you learn to ride with your feet together it'll also help to give you the center line of balance of the foil. You can always step to that position while switching feet. Don't think too much about it. I'll also use the wing to lift me instead of the pump down method. If the wing is above me and I'm going down wind (gaining speed) the foil will provide more lift and with the wing helping with lift will let me ride with both feet near the front of the board. I think learning without straps is better, I ride with and without straps but teach without. In the beginning all this stuff will seem like it's happening really fast but once you're relaxed and get familiar with it, you'll see it happens pretty slowly.

I'm on a 1000 axis, ultra short fuselage and 400 rear wing, it lets me drop late and pump onto foil faster. I can even blast through the rear of the wave with the set up. I also use a 102 with the same set up and it gives the same effect of getting on foil faster. What's your foil set up?

The 2020 fuselage takes the dodad to be used in the metal mast. If you're going carbon, it'll attach directly.

Looks awesome DW, hope to get up your way next week to give it a try. Good to hear Jacky is back on the water.

I'm guessing the 880 wing will be a 1500-1600 wing. I have the 1010 on order along with the 880. It's awesome that we don't have to wait a full year for new product to progress the sport

I put the maniac hook onto my Axis waist leash, works flawless.
