Just had a break though today on the tacks. I was hitting them off and on and my biggest issue was the wing not going to the other side of the wind window and then I'd stall. I was fine on the 4.2 and 3.5, but the 5, and 6 was the issue.  Found that if I push my back hand away from me it'll turn the nose of the wing sending it to the other side of the window and then I was able to follow around to it and ride off. Hope this helps

In my opinion, the less stiff the mast when you're sup'ing with big wings gives more wobble to the board. You may not notice it till you get on a stiffer mast. You'll usually use up more energy standing waiting for waves with a more flexible mast. I was getting like 30-40 mins of water time with a naish set up. Went to an hour or so with the Neil Pryde but still couldn't handle ocean conditions in over 10 knot wind conditions. Went to Axis and now I can sup for hours, be out in 20+ knots of wind and went from a 6'4" to a 5'8" board.

Once those foil wings come in I'll be heading up your way DW. Going to have you try the 370 rear also. Speeds up the 1000 wing and makes it loose but the turns seem to be tighter.

Depending where you're at (I'm in South Florida), I find the 6 and 4.2 are my main two used wings. Went out on the 5 the other day and felt like I should of went on the 6 for easier pop onto foil. The handling of the 5 and 6 seems about the same to me. Reason for the 6 and 4.2 for me is that it's either light winds and I need all the low end I can get or it's blasting over 15 knots and the 4.2 is perfect

Maybe if the boom was covered like a kite bar then it wouldn't damage the boards. It would add weight depending on the material. Soft material would be light but a more durable material like on the slingshot bars would add weight for sure

I'm finding that if I'm in an open area that the 3.5 has more than enough power to ride add if I'm intercostal or a spot that has wind shadows then the 4.2 is my choice since the wing tip can catch that higher cleaner wind. If I'm in total off shore winds then I'm on the 6 so it catches the winds coming over the structures near the beach. It'll launch me onto foil and then I'm riding very depowered. Maybe future design for off shore would be high aspect to grab the upper winds.

I have had chronic pain in my lower back and over the past year 5 years, my doctor finally found what it was about 2 years ago. Facet joints that deteriorated from all the impact from kiting over the years so the nerve gets inflamed and then it bed riddens me for a week. So I've been doing the steroid injection and I get about a year of no pain. Planning to burn the nerve out soon as a permanent fix. So don't rule those out when you go. I had a herniated disc and the facet at the same time so once the disc went down and I still had pain, the doc found the issue.

Once you get past the learning phase, you won't want to slow down. Speed is your friend.

If you're going to go cloud, go with the X series unless you find a killer deal. The s series was licensed by liquid force  and called the impulse and just 2 wings fit the fuselage. The X series has several wings and I heard some new ones on the way. I think it was a dumb move on them to change the fuselage cause I would of bought a few of the wings if they worked with my older set up. The S series is great if those two sizes work for you. I prefer the 24 on a kite.

Hey surf cowboy,
From seeing all the topics that you're starting, I think you should go down to your local beach and see what the guys are riding. I'm 160 lbs and I'm my local spot I use a 1020 and 1000 wing from axis. If I travel up the coast I'll mainly use the 1000 or I can go prone and use a way smaller wing. Hardest part of learning this sport is getting the right set up for your area as tuniy your gear. It took me a long time to sort stuff out but now my buddies get the right gear for our spot and with my coaching, they're catching doubles and pumping down the beach in the flat sections in a week or two. No one is going to have the perfect answer for you unless they know your spot and ability. The used wings out there are great and do the job. Most of us learned on them and changed gear cause we progressed in our skill.

Foil SUP / Re: What legrope for foiling

You'll change your set up as you progress. lately I've been using an up haul line attached to a occulus real leash. Before that I was on the leashlok with short coil. I wouldn't go calf or ankle leash due to the board pulling so much with the foil in the waves and when you wing, you're switching feet so you'll tangle with a leash on one leg. I've found that a leash attached to a harness when wing'ing keeps it more out of the way when kneel starting.

Happy holidays everyone. We had off shore winds today in Miami. I went out on the 6 and the Axis 1020, it was more than doable and a ton of fun catching the waves. Little rollers so the wing wasn't hitting the wave but showed huge potential of the wing in bad kite conditions. One of the local sup foilers wasn't going to get into the wing and then saw me riding so now he has a 6 on order. He was having some fear of missing out and called a few places for a wing. One guy said "you're really asking a lot from me", I thought that was really funny. So if anyone is looking for a 6 or 5, liquid surf and sail has 5's left and Jupiter kite boarding might have both still.
