Consider taking some lessons.
I am sure there are several companies in San Diego.

You should learn how to prone surf first and learn surf etiquette.

Some one who is clueless and uninformed is a hazard in the line up.

Get some help.

Sand or no sand,
Acetone before applying pad.
If it doesn't stick dry it out and glue it.

I have had different results with pads sticking to Startouch.
It seams the 2009 sticks better.
The 2010's have come off in the surf on the front pad section.
Probably from the white water catching the leading edge and peeling it back.
I have then re applied a new pad to that area using a heat gun to get the adhesive
stickier, then putting the board in the sun for a while until the pad heats up,
works sometimes. I have been able to salvage the pad by gluing it down with 3M 30NF Adhesive.
Yes I cleaned the board with acetone like the pad manufacturer recommends.
Looks like Easy Rider recommends sanding.
Will try that too.

Yeah nose rider!
The Starboard 10'5" Drive and the 9'8" Element
have plenty of drive and decent concave in the nose
for nose riding lift even in small waves.
