Gear Talk / Re: Board covers
« on: December 08, 2018, 05:24:24 PM »
I purchased a similar product by VAMO from Paddleboard Specialists and I have  been very pleased with it. It fits snugly on my 14,  but is pretty soft and flexible material and I am sure it will go down the road at highway speeds without coming off or flapping too much in the breeze....though I haven't had a trip with it yet. I got it mostly just for sun protection and keeping bug droppings off, etc. I am trying to keep my Imagine Rocket as pristine as possible without resorting to a coffin bag which I find a pain to get my boards in and out of.

Very attractive "soft top".......

I love SUP,  but I have zero interest in trying anything like foiling that might injure me and end my paddling days forever. Life is WAY TOO short.

Gear Talk / Re: Leash to Suit Velcro?

I have resorted to putting my leash underneath my waist life-belt. Now I feel like at least the life belt is performing a useful function :)......and it's more comfortable than putting the leash around either my ankle or just above my thigh. I do believe that both the life belt and the leash are legitimate,  but also they are a pain!

Here's a link for the suit I think you saw in the video......

According to TJ,  that orange suit is a SUP suit.....I think it's made by the same company that does Starboards blue dry suit. I've looked at them and the front entry is nice and the material pretty light and soft.....but I still worry about overheating once you get "up and running" !  I'd like a neon reflective yellow or orange suit.....makes it very easy to find you body if things go wrong :)............

We rarely eat out and find that when we do we really notice how salty the food is. It may taste good at first,  but not long after eating you really notice the difference and start to crave water!
There is more than enough salt in food without having to add it when cooking. The biggest downfall to trying to cook healthy and eat better is that it is much more expensive. Even doing a successful garden is expensive. (we did have a bumper crop of mini red peppers,  sun gold tomatoes and numerous kinds of potatoes ) I only wish we could grow ground round.....I like my meat and potatoes!!)

The change in scheduling and routine is what I think would make this extremely tough for me. At 67 I feel pretty set in my routine. For example,  I generally am up at 7:30 and start with several very strong black drip coffee. (maybe 3 cups total in the following hour. Then if hungry I'll have maybe a scrambled egg and toast, or maybe just 1/2 banana with some raisins, costco cashew crunch and almond milk. Within an hour I am ready for a good BM and I count on this. Then I'm ready for either a morning paddle session or a fitness walk. When I get back it's close to lunchtime and I will be hungry.  Lunch is usually either homemade veggie soup or maybe a tuna melt without cheese on rye bread. Lunch is usually about 500 calories and I have green tea afterwards to fill in the spaces. Dinner is most often at 6- 6:30 and it is usually a pretty healthy home cooked meal.....and I should say I am used to a cocktail of grapefruit juice with vodka prior to dinner and at least 2 glasses of red wine after dinner. Both my wife and I have been able to maintain our desired weight for almost 2 years now sticking to this routine. We both lost 30 lbs once we started standup paddling back in 2014 and are just about where we would like to be weight-wise. (I would not mind getting down another 5 lbs.....but I think I would have to give up all alcohol to make it and that is not something we are both willing to give up at this time):.......
Again,  I would have to emphasize that if we didn't share the same goals and habits I don't think we could have done it.

I read thru the stuff and it is interesting.  But I think one of the major challenges that was not touched on,  is the importance of having a partner that is willing to work with you and is basically on the same page with your goals and objectives. If my wife wasn't also willing to stick with me on our exercise and eating program....I don't think it could happen. We encourage and support each other in our goals.

I am seriously wondering if brains get fat?  Does a slim brain work better than a fat one?  ::)

We all need to be on the same page...so to speak. Whatever the health care system offers....it should  be the same level of care and options for all. If it is not good enough for wealthy people,  then they are certainly free to seek care at their expense anywhere in the world they choose.
Social Security is basically a good program that has gotten out of hand. I believe that the benefits should go strictly to the worker that paid into the system. If I got divorced three times (and the wives each lived with me for ten years) I don't think it is fair to the system that all 3 wifes would be eligible for a chunk of MY benefits. I don't think the system can afford this,  among many other strange eligibility rules that have been created by Congress over time. I think there are many tweeks that could save the system,  but it would take some balls in Congress to do it.

And that statement of Trump's is the scary truth and proof of how low he and his supporters will go.  Nothing Trump says is a shock to anyone anymore and as long as the perception is the economy is doing well and everyone is going to benefit he will likely stay in power. I can't wait to see some change.
