Yeah, I'm riding Thruster - may try a quad setup. I had it out this past weekend in waist to stomach high waves, and had a ball. It's a bit slow to get going, but once on the wave it's a blast.

I am wondering a bit the negative reviews, I like the mix of a quicker, more responsive board and stability of the 32" width.

I'll expand this one to rent or buy. I'll go back a few times, so I'd be open to buying a board if anyone has one in the Uvita/Dominical area?

Travel, Trips, Destinations / Dominical/Uvita - SUP Rental?
« on: October 18, 2015, 05:42:43 PM »
May have a place to stay, truck, etc. down in Dominical, CR. Problem is it takes two flights to get there (which would cost a small fortune to get a board down there and back for a week).

Anyone know of any decent rentals for surf down in that area? Uvita, etc.?

I searched on here and online and last one I saw was from 2012 from a SUP/kite company down in Dominical.

SUP General / Re: Southeast weather and flood firsthand reports?

I'm on James Island, across the river from the Charleston Peninsula and adjacent to Folly. There was flooding in the normal flood-prone areas, but I did not see anything like what's going on in the upstate with dams breaking, etc.

The good thing about flat land is you don't have the elevation changes where flash floods are a huge problem, etc.

There were definitely a lot of road closures and bad areas, but the main travel arteries were fine this morning.

Really good surf Sunday afternoon too, but then for some reason Folly closed to non-residents? Headed back out this afternoon hopefully.

My bad, x32, ha, and it's a lot more stable than the widepoint, but still fun once on the wave. Can't compare to the Widepoint on a wave really because I was still trying to get used to the stability by the time I was done riding it.

It's a lot of fun though and a nice step up from the AW while keeping stability.

Bought this off Craigslist, great condition, great deal, the guy just had too many tools and rode a shortboard more than a SUP. I've been on a Fanatic Allwave 9'2" for two years as my main SUP for surfing. I recently bought a 10'1 JL B&B for smallish surf (which I love) and wanted to go a bit smaller for my other board for bigger surf and something that I can turn a bit quicker, more responsive, etc. I also lost some weight since I bought the AW, and now I'm around 175.

Anyways - I love this board, it's a perfect mix of stability and responsiveness. I had it out the last few days in chest to head, with 3' overhead sets and it has made a noticeable difference in my riding. In the past, on the AW, on quicker waves, I would make a bottom turn and then not have enough speed to make sections a lot of times. This board I had no issues, even got a little covered up for the first time on a SUP.

All in all - great board, light, and really feels like you are surfing instead of riding.

I'm a little concerned that I can feel heel dents in it where i stand, but no big deal.

If anyone has any questions or is thinking about getting this board, go for it.

Thinking of updating my ContourROAM to one of these. I mostly use it for line mount - Kiteboarding and Paddle Mount - SUP.

I saw a video of someone using it on thigh/leg and it was a pretty cool view.

Any other opinions?

This is my next trip probably, going to get with PaddleBarbados and bring my kite gear too.

Looking to stay on South Shore somewhere, not an AI.

Let me know how it is, I'll probably go in February.

Yeah, somehow or another, mine now looks like this. No indictment on Fanatic, it's been pretty bulletproof for 2 years, one of those over the falls bend and flex type of deals I guess.

It's repairable, and it's going to have stringers in it after the repair.

Get in touch with JimK he will hook you up on a 8'10".

I have a 9'2" in Charleston, SC and may be getting a 8'10" as well.

SUP General / Top SUS Waves in the World
« on: September 07, 2015, 05:25:05 PM »
Just wondering what are some of the best travel spots for waves suitable for SUS, some of the criteria I'm thinking would be attitude in the water, crowds, mellow takeoffs, slower waves, etc.

Any thoughts?

I've traveled a good bit of the Caribbean kiteboarding, and just went to Costa Rica to SUS, some of the waves worked, some were too steep/fast. Just looking for some new trip ideas.

One more thing to add- I e-mailed Jimmy Lewis before and after I bought the board (it's been said before on here he's very responsive and helpful). I was basically telling him on these larger/quicker waves that I'd take off at an angle and start walking up right away. He said he does the same on any quick sections or faster waves, so I wouldn't get so caught up with how it turns. The pivot turns are possible, but you can always just take off in the direction you want to go and start walking that way.

Had a great session on it this morning, perfect conditions - waist to chest, couple of fives off the nose, mostly just getting up there and getting used to the ride though.

How is the steering on the nose of the B&B?

Also, I guess I'm hearing that your not that hot on how it turns from the tail?

It works pretty well through sections from the nose.

Turning from the tail - I'll be honest I've been cheating for the most part, just because the waves were a bit bigger the last two days (chest to head) and a bit quicker than normal, I've been angling the board frontside or backside at the onset of the wave so that I don't have to come down and do a big turn.

So I wouldn't say that I'm displeased with the turning, I just haven't worked on it as much, that's on me, not the board.

Yeah - another session this AM, I can't believe how the board reacts when you reach the nose. I used to longboard when I was young but never on a classic log, it was more a progressive shape, and never with a concave nose, it's really interesting how it works.

I guess it does make perfect sense that it creates a rising/accelerating effect when weight is exerted on it. Again, same sort of session, back and forth between B&B and AW, same results, B&B hit a few home runs, was mostly on AW though.

Plan on riding all B&B in the AM when the surf drops off in size some.

Allwave is a great all-around board, but it's not a noserider by any means. I could edge my way up it, but no cross stepping, and it's really easy to pearl.

The big difference with the B&B is the concave and how the board reacts when you reach the top third, it's really impressive how well it sticks to the wave and speeds up.
