I actually don't need to get $500 out of it.  I'll do $400 for a Zoner.   I thought my boys would be ready to play around on this, but they're not as into it as I had hoped.

Hey Guys,
I hope it's okay to just link to a CL post I have.  I'd like to get $500 from a Zoner.  Let me know if you're interested.

Technique / Re: How to end ride on wave?
« on: August 24, 2017, 12:40:24 PM »
Thanks Guys! Some excellent ideas.
TallDude, thanks so much for the video and explanation!!  I'll be giving that a shot.
STC, that's usually what I end up doing, but I don't want to fall on stingray :D It sure does make for really nice shots though, especially of such a pretty board.
PB,  I've definitely trimmed up and noserode before and stalled out somehow.  I think that's exactly what you're describing and could be a great benefit to try and time it right.
Anon, If I had enough speed in a bottom turn, I think this makes a lot of sense as it's how I kick out if the wave hasn't closed out, or if I'm trying to get out quick right before a closeout.  But if I decide to go for the floater or finishing move and somehow not wipeout, I'd like to stay standing without riding the foam all the way in :D

Technique / How to end ride on wave?
« on: August 23, 2017, 08:09:48 PM »
If surfing a beach break and milking the wave all the way inside or not kicking out early and the wave has closed out, what are some preferred techniques for staying standing and getting the board turned around?  Sometimes the water is pretty shallow and stalling doesn't seem best, I also if I try to cut back into the whitewater and don't have enough speed I end up getting knocked off by the foam.
Is this just a bad spot too do anything or is there any advice for things to try?

I'm not really big on Phil's either and there is one that's walking distance from my house.  This place is widely regarded as pretty good BBQ in San Diego: abbeys texas bbq on Miramar Rd.

I used to have the 9'5 Striker and regret selling the board to this day.  It's a very cruisy board that's super fun to ride and the full nose deck pad is nice too.  at 200lbs the 9'5 was plenty of float.  I would be tempted to try the 8'11 at anything less than 200, but it might be a bit of work.

My buddy rides the 8'11 AW and I hopped on it for the first time a few weeks ago.  He swears by it and I thought it was a fun board.  It's very stable with thick rails as STC mentions.  The tail is really pulled in and it kinda has a pivoty turning feel.  It also, maybe due to width seemed a little slower than the striker and didn't quite catch waves as easily, but they're both really good boards.

I'd definitely be looking to a sunova, IMO.  The striker was nice but didn't blow me away.  I hopped on an 8'10 speed and it was really nice.  Very stable and caught waves super easily.  The construction is incredible... light, durable, and the handle is awesome as long as you're not wearing 5mil gloves. :)

I currently ride a 9' fusion in SD.  I'm intermediate and I find it pretty enjoyable.  It surfs pretty well from the middle, catches waves very easily, and noserides too!  It's very fun, and and like others said, a transitional board.  I currently weigh 200lb and it floats me more than well enough, even in choppy water.

Fins make a pretty big difference in that board.  I'm currently running EA techflex in the front with qd2 4.0 hex in the rear.  It's a nice setup.  The board surfs pretty well as a thruster too as I often run the JM1 thruster set in it.  All in all you should be pretty happy with it.  It does fine in flat water/distance too.  I have done 13 miles on mine paddling from Torrey pines to Scripps and back, surfing along the way.  It's a fun board that you should enjoy.  When you're ready to get something more performance oriented, it's a great backup, family board. IMO.

Gear Talk / Re: Coreban Fusion vs anything else
« on: July 08, 2016, 11:05:48 AM »
Thanks guys.  I've been on it for about a year now and I do find that it catches even weak waves pretty easily.  My buddy rides that 8'11 AW and I think it's a bit more stable, but I haven't ridden it that much.  i definitely notice the flatter deck and it's not as tippy.

Any additional input on this board would be greatly appreciated.  I love mine, but just wondering what sort of difference I'd notice if I went with anything else, like a Sunova Speeed, Infinity RNB, etc... :)

Also, if you own or have owned the Fusion, what fin setup did/do you like best.

Gear Talk / Coreban Fusion vs anything else
« on: July 07, 2016, 09:28:22 PM »
I'm basically hoping any folks who have experience on the Coreban Fusion could share their insights comparing it to newer boards.  I assume the technology and shapes have changed a bit in the last 7 years and I'm wondering if there are any boards that far surpass it in performance AND stability.

There are a lot of threads about the Coreban from several years ago, but not much info recently or comparing it to newer boards, and rightly so.

I'm 195 lbs and find it a little tippy in choppy water and I'm not sure if that's because I'm balance challenged or because of the rocker and side to side stability of the board.  I find the board surfs pretty well and it's very cruisy, but it isn't quite as performance oriented and snappy as some of the more aggressive shapes, like the hokua x32 for example.

Thanks!
