Another alternative: https://sicmaui.com/us_sic_en/bullet-air-glide-14-0-inflatable-105226

14 ft, 28 wide (but it is stable board ), dual chamber, good glide for long distance. And if nothing changed since gen 1  - they had 2 years warranty.

And is there a stability disadvantage to displacement hulls vs. planning hulls for beginners? It seems almost all lower level and beginner SUP use planing hulls.

Since you talking about iSUP this question is probably irrelevant as most (if not all) inflatable SUPS are flat-bottomed so they are PHs and sitting 'on' the water.

I do like the idea of 2 air chambers since that gives me some more safety going long distances. The Starbaord DC iSUPs with dual-chamber are 30"minimum width. But they are quite more expensive and don't have D-rings for a seat. I'm surprised that 2-chambers isn't more common on touring iSUP. kayaks have 3 chambers.

I own 10 ft Starboard with dual-chamber, it's quiet stiff for inflatable. I also have 14 ft SIC that was not dual-c, I just looked up online and current generation of the same board is D-C. So I guess if you planning to keep it for a while (and use :) )  it's probably way to go. Even if it's more expensive up front, it probably keep resale value better that some cheap models.  D-rings could be added. The previous owner of my SIC iSUP did that. I think kayaks have 3 chambers because of complex shape.

If we ignore taking passengers, would you recommend a beginner (175#, 5'11") to start with a 12'6"x30"? I don't go out in big waves (small lake) and some sport boat wakes are most likely to kick me off. But if they come, I likely kayak sitting.

Load-wise you would be fine, but don't forget to look into board thickness too. Size wise - you have to look what is more important - i.e  14' will glide much better than 12'6" - so it would be faster and have a better tracking, but they usually not that wide as 12'6 so less stable side to side.

And lastly - I'm a bit skeptical about one board (or rather "flotation device" in this case)  would fit a bill as  1. kayak  2 stand up board.  Are you going to carry a seat ? are you going to carry 2 different paddles.  are you going to leash everything in case of flip over? Are you going to be able to flip the board/yak back with all things attached? are you planning to wear leash when standing? how you going to move around the board if you have char on it ? something to think over. Sometimes less is more. :)

Hey Ricky,  long time no chat  :)

Thinking about you every time I see Creeks in a water - one day I will own one :)
Thank you for detailed analysis  - going to reread and reread again, then try and report back, hopefully upcoming week.

Thank you all,  going through comments and on one hand find something I'm familiar and something new  and something that need clarification...

I def noticed that when I'm standing more forward - the board is going faster.  Going back and I loose speed very quick  - does it mean I do it do aggressively? I think I can  control the speed  - in terms of if I feel I'm slowing down I move forward a bit.. Obviously to make a turn I have to move my back foot more back - how quickly (or rather "how early") I should try to do that  after I begun riding the wave?  Because I feel  I want to have longer ride but if I start this tail loading too late the wave is already weak  and I stalling?

Should I try to end my ride before getting into white water? it's soo tempting to get a looong ride and I feel like the wave is getting second wind  and let me continue. But as a result I'm almost always ended up in a water  vs lot of folks on SUP don't go there, thus not falling at all..

Is the balance something could be better one day and feels like totally gone on another? This session I recorded begun really weird - for a good 30  min I was falling off the board left and right without apparent reason. Then I got the rhythm and rest of the session was no problem at all.

Do you change into surfing stand (from parallel stand) prior to wave picking your board of after?  I think I do later and I'm not sure if this is efficient way.  But I can put out more power paddling this way - trying to paddle in surf stance makes me concentrate on balance more that getting up to speed. Plus it is really awkward to to if wave goes right (I'm goofy).

"step your back foot back 6in and a bit to the right"  - trying to decode this. Do you mean if I go left and standing in semi- surging stand as I have at 1:15 in the video  - I should try move my back foot: a. "back" meaning toward the tail or b. "back" - meaning literally back off the left rail  so my heel would be not on the centerline but on right side of the board?
 - " bit of the right" - mean closer to my front (R) foot?

And lastly (for now)- do you change side you paddling on when you trying to catch the wave?  Somehow I developed the habit to switch the side literally at the last moment for few more strokes but I don't thing it does any good..

Over last couple of months I begun going out and SUP surfing more often.  I'm getting more comfortable on my 10 ft Allrounder in the surf and even thought that I probably could step down in size a bit. One of the reasons for that that I don't know how to progress, and one of my buddies said - oh, we are surfing beach break and it's difficult to turn your tanker here.  He is beginner  too, but ahead of me.  Well, the board is 169 liters and I'm despite all my effort still around 205/210 lbs. But I think before jumping to shopping I better learn more, and here I want to ask you: what exactly I have to learn to get most out of this board before moving on?  I included a  a short video that shows my abilities at this time. I can catch a wave and go toward the shore slightly angled - left or right depends on the direction of wave. I'm having hard time to change direction in case of obstacles on my way - not completely though, I probably can make a slight turn of the projectile I'm going , but it far from completely changing direction. So here is the video I took last week. Comments are welcome and encouraged.

I usually dry booties on foldable laundry rack, angled with opening down, sole up.
DryGuy DX Forced Air Boot Dryer get a lot of use during cold season - no heat, just air flow.  I use wetsuit shampoo once in a while.

I used suggested model paint and automotive clear coat I had as i wanted to restore integrity of outer coat. Final result is not spectacular but I can live with it lol.

This in not mine, but I have the same board and very happy with it. I think price is decent too.
Good board for a bigger guy. I'm 205-210 and it's very good first/second board. I learn (still) surfing on it.

If only cosmetic, I use Testors paint (remember that? from building model cars ...)  It's enamel, good variety of colors - comes in gloss or flat. I'd just mask it off with blue masking tape, the kind that's designed for a clean sharp edge, and use an appropriately small brush.

I think this is what I'm going with. Do I need to splay with any kind of  automotive clear coat after?  I was thinking something like that : https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0043B7UQY/?coliid=I6451435HG8M7&colid=29N06Y3IZYBGN&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

Thank you sflinux,  it's pretty small surface chip that didn't go through glass or even shuttered the rail. But it still damaged the back Sunova sticker laminated under topcoat. I'm planning to put a rail tape but  this spot is close to the nose so I'm not sure if I want to put the tape that much forward, perhaps I might need to buy an extra piece. Anyway I'm picky and want to patch this area even I'm gonna apply the tape to make sure that even the tape come off at some point it's not gonna pull the .

My understanding that Solarez for epoxy is safe for Sunova boards, right?

I managed to whack a rail and chipped a small piece of transparent outer layer. What should I use for fixing it?

Nahant today

Wingfoiling is gradually getting popular. The local surf shop began carry equipment I think last year. It looks tempting honestly.
