Been staring at my brand new 5m for just over a month now. Will get it out on the water next week over March break - can’t wait!

122

I hope they start with the Ali Baba crew because if they go after Signature and other innovators it’s going to look bad.

And that’s my issue with this - lock down the basic concept as IP and stifle any future innovation

Mike Murphy’s been riding foils since the 60s - I’m sure he’s got some patents to his name - don’t see him going for the IP land grab that’s going on here.

Look into the blue planet boards - I got a 6’0” shipped to buffalo n drove down to pickup from Ontario. I know they are having a clear out sale on gear as they are moving locations. There where deals on board and foil packages n shipping to major destinations. If it works for you have it shipped to south of border n drive down to pickup. Mike, Kevin and the rest of the guys are really great at answering any questions you might have. Give them a call

As I attempt to educate myself on the whys and how’s of this foiling thing - came across this recent paper by some BC engineering students that I’ve enjoyed reading.
Thought I would share.

Good instructional 'get up' video with interesting offset foot positioning - thanks for posting Dave.

Jim

Have u noticed Derek Hama’s foot position. Looks like his offset is at rear foot and front foot is over the Center of board.

I wanted to get a Toyota Sienna but my girl won’t go for it - she says it’s got too much of that mom mobile thing going on for her

Anyone have any images or videos of upwind with a harness attached to wing showing the tack?

130
Not quite a knee start but - same guy as above getting a 29L
Board going.

I swore by his board bags, but not his boards. I bought a performance short board and HATED it...worst board I ever owned..heavy,  corky and slow...sold it asap.
When I told him so, he blamed me and my surf ability which made me laugh.
That guy could not take nor accept criticism..

As I’ve said before elsewhere- lurked here for a long time. Always enjoyed the wardog banter - especially how at the end of it he would throw in the - mahalos

Got my 5m F-one today! Gears coming together 😀

133
There was a very impressive rider down in DR last month. He was kiting but - his board if we can call it that resembled one of them brown McDonald’s eat in trays which he bolted onto his foil. Dude ripped once get got it going 😉

“Cannot answer without your weight, wing ding sizes, wind speeds. Live at the Gorge, it’s fine. Bigger is easier when learning. Frustration tolerance are all factors.”

I’m running at just under 170 lbs, buying a 5m Swing for my Lake Ontario to start. My local beach can be sub 10 to 20 mph n then some. Trying to keep the sup foil board fairly small to do away with dead weight once flying. My current small surf sup is 7’10” @ 84 litres.
Ok with the frustration factor of going smaller. The naish website had the xl for rider weighing up to 210 lbs but I now see from their 2020 foil lineup that my 19 xl is coming in middle of the pack size wise in their roster.
When I tried it it was on a 120 litre board with a 4.2m sling wing.

Morning - hope you don’t mind me jumping in here - putting some gear together after trying winging last month. I bought a 2019 naish thrust surf xl foil which is coming in at 1572cms - will that be enough to get me sup foiling? I’ve read some on the forum of 2000 cms foils being used.
