I just 'had' to buy five appliances... and looking at the itemized invoice, am painfully aware it could have been five interesting boards... Not that I need five boards, but jus' sayin...

Hope I never see the inside of another appliance store.

Does anyone have any experience downwinding an M-14 in the Gorge?

Or talked with someone who has?

Gear Talk / New Kialoa "Ewalu" sup paddle
« on: April 09, 2018, 11:43:24 AM »
I think this is newsworthy because: (i) another viable choice is now on the market. (ii) it is light for Kialoa (16 oz), and (iii) interestingly, it's offered only in a 78" blade.

I'm not affiliated with Kialoa, but have been a fan of the company and Danny Chun's attention to quality. And I like the Tahitian handles. Now morphed into 'ergo T' handles.

I've had a couple Methanes and a GL Surf. I don't have them anymore because they weighed on average over 20 oz... relatively heavy, sturdy  beasts.

Apparently is offered only in a 78" high aspect blade.  I'd like to try one before making conclusions, but that seems small.

It's marketed as "Built for SUP course racing."

NorCal / What's the deal with Ocean Beach?
« on: February 17, 2018, 04:02:19 PM »
The "Would you paddle out? Barreling beach break..." thread got me wondering...

Are there specific breaks at Ocean Beach? Or do you just look for wherever it may be working on any given day?

Do SUPs congregate in one area over others? North? At the park? South?

Gear Talk / SIC Bayonet shape vs. Bullets?
« on: January 18, 2018, 08:01:52 PM »
SIC describes the Bayonet as “ an extension and derivative of its world class kin, the Bullet”.
Does anyone know how the Bayonet’s rocker compares to the V1 and V2?

I’ve kind of been on the lookout for a nice V1. This may be a substitute. An expensive substitute.

Gear Talk / Dry suit for surf?
« on: January 11, 2018, 10:11:09 AM »
Any experience/recommendation/pros/cons regarding using a dry suit instead of a wet suit for surf? I’m considering using my Ocean Rodeo Soul in Oregon this weekend.
Flexibility isn’t a big concern, but are there others? Thanks!

Classifieds / 10’2” Jimmy Lewis Stun Gun in Honolulu
« on: December 30, 2017, 11:44:52 AM »
$900

Someone was a good boy and got a new wave board for Christmas, so will part with this JL...you know... to be reasonable   8)

In great shape with minor routine wear.

10'2″x32.5″x4.2″ (160L)

Masao Maroon

From Jimmy Lewis:
"The Stun Gun is the most versatile wave board for decent to excellent waves. Smooth semi gun outline with it's soft round pin tail makes it hold through quick carving turns. It has a flat bottom all the way from the nose to just in front of the fin area where the "V" starts and flows off of the tail. With that flat bottom there is no governor on the speed and the "V" bottom in the tail allows the rider to lay the board on rail effortlessly to initiate a hard bottom or top turn.
- very stable
- 5 fin set up.

Gear Talk / Compact longboard - Sunova Steeze - rocker?
« on: November 06, 2017, 03:51:54 PM »
Does anyone know how much entry rocker the new Sunova 'Steeze' has?

There is a discussion on SeaBreeze that it was built in part to compete with the JL Striker. It's a different board for sure, but I want more rocker than the Striker has, and I find no discussion anywhere regarding the Steeze rocker.

Or any other recommendations for a 9'5"ish x 31"ish performance longboard shape? (Infinity New Deal 9'6"x 31" is another).

Thanks
