That is a tough looking board man. What's the construction like?

It was a 7’ 6” first generation river board. It has about 13 inches cut off of it so it’s around 6’3” and 15 lbs with the rail system installed. The main construction is a material called “Armalight” and is super durable.
While it’s designed to river foil surf, I might take a go at it on the Oregon coast soon.
Not sure how to install a foot strap on it though...

Here is the 6’3” inch Hydrus Foil board. It’s 15 lbs without the foil and has a track system put in.

Great video!! I happened to fly down to San Diego just before Christmas and tried foil surfing on the ocean for the first time. Below is a picture from Dog Patch as well (they should call it the Fun Patch!!)

Flew down to San Diego and have been foil surfing with Dave Daum from King’s
Paddle Sports. Check out the 32 inch front wings- they fly like a dream!! So fun!!

Terrible pictures!! Had to resize and it squished them. The wing material is thick and from the top of the wing arcs down about 3 inches. The front wing is definitely it flat!!

Dave Daum at King’s has just come out with a 32 inch front wing that is curved down along with a larger rear wing. He has surfed foot high waves for a 1/4 mile and I tried it on the river today (wave was really small) and had a blast!! They also attach to a Liquid Force set up.

I believe a set of wings, front and rear, run around $500.

Put the 22 inch strut (mast) on the set up today. Hit rocks entering and it was super difficult because the small wings stalled but did take flight!! Amazing day!!

Yes I'm getting some good angles of the foil from my paddle mounted camera by holding it low, I'm playing around with different angles in this video.

Great video and looking good!! That board is crazy looking!!

Wow, that looks tough to do man!

Seems like the foil would be harder on a river wave due to picking up all the instability of the underwater current and movement. Did you feel that while paddling? (Although when you're learning anything it's always just a blur really lol.)

Yes, it's very difficult to do!! The standing wave on a river is so different, crossing the eddy line etc.  The current wings are way too small and am waiting on the Dave Daum (www.kingspaddlesports.com) custom big wings to come . :)
The picture below is from today, and the set up was flying even though the tail of the board was touching the pile. It's because the 15 inch strut is needed to get into the wave without bottoming out and am going to see what the 22 inch strut will do (likely bottom out). However, it is hard to describe the amount of power in the water... it's a lot!! Thanks for asking and keep charging!!!

Put a Liquid Force tbar and wings (made for kiting) on today. Got into a couple of waves and flew a bit, it's very tricky! The big wings are coming soon!! Keep charging!!

Triples (Derek) and I headed out to the Trailer Park wave that was flowing at 5,000 cfs this morning. The Flying Scud from Hydrus (Jason Zawadzki) was in flight. Got into a couple of waves and it's way harder than in looks!! Look for the fist/paddle pump after the second wave. lol
Can't wait for the new wing set-up from King's Foil to arrive later next week!! Keep charging!!

Dave Daum at King's has a new 32 inch front wing coming out as well as their 28 inch front wing.

From Dave (pictures below):

The new foil flies with almost zero wave to push it. Both the 28" and 32" wing spans are amazing!

And it work amazing in faster waves...

Foil SUP / Re: Max wave size for foils?

This pic of Kai is a really good example of what happens at speed , look how high the foil is and the way he is pushing his knees forward to keep the foil down , it's incedibly hard to shift the front foot. The faster you go you keep creating lift , that's the problem. The other issue is wind any offshore breeze jacks the board adding to the problem so the board has to be small to reduce this effect. We were maxing out on the Gofoil & Naish at 20 mph on larger waves but now holding 30 mph. We simply got better at riding them. Flatter low aspect foils have their advantage but when you crack the surface they slam hard , the bigger curved wings can be held near the surface gurgling and suppress the touchdown pressure, keeping you on your feet.

It's way too early to put a maximum speed on foils yet as riders ability just keeps progressing and so do the foils and boards. IMHO 50 mph is just around the corner.....

Good point. Rush Randle and Laird were using sit-down hydrofoil set-ups from Sky Ski on a wakeboard with snow board bindings and getting towed in. We push the mid-30 mph's on these set ups (sit down) when cutting across the wake etc. Guys have gone 50+ behind a sea plane- point is, the wings are thin and ready to go!

Interestingly enough, currently working with Dave Daum in making a set-up to river foil surf at 3-5 mph's. The key here is to keep charging on both ends of the spectrum!!
