Had the opportunity to go surf at SanO for a week with Dave Daum and learned a ton! Some background, previously had spent 3 days foil surfing on the ocean and then hit it 6 days in a row (5 at SanO). I started on a 7’6” Kings Board with a 23 inch mast on a Liquid Force set up and King’s Wings (32 inch wide front wing and glide rear wing). After a day on that, went with a lower volume Dave board that is 6’10” x 28 (110 volume). I’m 6’2” 180 lb for reference. After taking that board that I affectionately named “Green Magic” caught waves WAY easier and flew them with more control. I used Dave’s wing and carbon mast and was flying!!Ended the last day surfing Nukes and riding waves all the way to the power plant!! Dave and I took the front straps off and really like how we could change our feet around. A few lessons learned for newbies: 1) Go low volume to catch waves. You might struggle standing on it but it makes catching and riding amazing! 2) Straps are good as well as being strapless. Catching waves was a bit easier without the strap on the low volume board. 3) There are lots of types of foils out there... keep trying different ones. I really prefer the glide rear wing to the v shaped. 4) 8 days on the water and the last day was catching waves that were missed (pretty big and fast!) 4 days earlier. Lesson learned- be patient and improve every time out. Below I’ll try and post some pics taken from shore and a fisherman- complete strangers, how cool is that (Ben Nyguyen and Mike)!!
Came back home and caught the best river foil wave yet!! No Go Pro though 😕

Dave Daum at King’s has just come out with a 32 inch front wing that is curved down along with a larger rear wing. He has surfed foot high waves for a 1/4 mile and I tried it on the river today (wave was really small) and had a blast!! They also attach to a Liquid Force set up.
I believe a set of wings, front and rear, run around $500.

Triples (Derek) and I headed out to the Trailer Park wave that was flowing at 5,000 cfs this morning. The Flying Scud from Hydrus (Jason Zawadzki) was in flight. Got into a couple of waves and it's way harder than in looks!! Look for the fist/paddle pump after the second wave. lol Can't wait for the new wing set-up from King's Foil to arrive later next week!! Keep charging!!

Dave Daum at King's has a new 32 inch front wing coming out as well as their 28 inch front wing.
From Dave (pictures below):
The new foil flies with almost zero wave to push it. Both the 28" and 32" wing spans are amazing!
And it work amazing in faster waves...

The Crazy Foil set up is very adjustable and have been testing different configurations. While not on the website, I tried a bi wing set up with two wings (22 inch by 5 inch) making 220 square inch total. Had some nice success with this set up and was able to take it to the river and foil SUP!! Next step will be to try the 28 inch and 22 inch wings up front (250 square inches) before going to the tri wing.

Hello, I'm not sure where to put this video because it's a River Foil SUP? Any how, have been going behind the boat with the Hydrus Scud that has slots for the foil. Because there is a bunch of rocker, the tbar had to be put really far forward. This was day 1 so any thoughts/tips would be helpful! Thanks! https://www.youtube.com/edit?video_id=PO7qgjHm5CU

Hello,
I'm new to the world of ocean surfing on the SUP, novice long boarder, and solid on SUPs. Because I live in the inland PNW, the ocean trips are about once a year either to the Oregon Coast or Oahu (North Shore). I recently purchased a 9'6" Czar from NRS and took it to the North Shore and it was the first time I SUP on the ocean. Ended up catching some of the best waves of my life, one was overhead and several were just nice and super fast rides. I didn't do any big turns or anything but had a blast! I'm looking for the best iSUP pure surf board made and just didn't know if something like the Red Paddle 8'10" Whip would really be a lot different than my current set up with them both being inflatable? I totally understand the hardboards have rails and perform much better but I need something I can put on a plane for $25 each way. There is also a really good potential to river surf in my area but would put that behind the best iSUP surf board. The NRS Czar was pretty sweet but the fins did vibrate when I dropped in. The overall shape of the board along with the rocker allowed it to be pretty decent. The waves are FAST on the North Shore!! I also understand everyone has their biases on what companies are the best which if fine but this is about the best PURE iSUP. Thanks! Sam the Surfer
