Gear Talk / Lost 2 iSUP the same day
« on: August 21, 2019, 05:38:16 AM »
Last Sunday was hot and sunny. I took to the beach my 2 ISUP that I barely use recently . I first inflated my 2013 Naish  to 15psi (14 recommended). While I was inflating the second board, a Fanatic from 2014, the Naish blew up, it has a 15cm tears on the rail. I was joking about it and how lucky I was that girl who wanted to try SUP finally didn’t join when the second board also blew up. The recommended pressure is 22 but I stopped at 15psi. The Fanatic apparently had all the treads from the back of the board breaking at the same time, giving an interesting shape.

Hi,
Lot’s of interesting things have been said, but little about Balsa race /touring boards.
I’m no expert but I own a sunova allwater 14’ since 2018, I have the same compression where I stand, I didn’t like it when I first noticed but it doesn’t evolve now and there’s no delam neither noticeable weight change. That board is lighter than my old 12’6  nsp. I love my Sunova Allwater. I see my Sunova more like a racing car than a Volvo. Of course you should check weight/dents but it should be fine.

I have a Sunova allwater with the same drain hole system and it does work well, in fact it’s so efficient that you forget about it .

Easy, you mounted the foil the wrong way, it should be bellow the board and not on top of it, right.
You should open a Ponomuseum!

Gear Talk / Re: Windsurfing on a Sunova Creek
« on: April 13, 2019, 05:50:57 PM »
Hi,
The 9’1 Creek  is 136l it should be fine if you’re in the average weight. I never tried the Creek  but I’ve more windsurfed my Speeed (8’3?) than used it as a SUP, it’s great, easy to jibe, very stable, great acceleration but tail rocker makes it impossible to plane (i planed few times but when overpowered it usually ends with a spin out).
Rails (the Speeed is quite parallel) really help while upwind.
I’m 86kg and usually use a 5.8 or 6.5 m2 sail.
Second hand is the way to go but old gear breaks quickly!
Enjoy

What happened to the big name racers like booty and the girls. I heard the drug testers were there to keep things honest.

I think budgets might have played a part for quite a few racers as i am sure budgets are a little tighter this year. Might be a factor in a few races this year!
After what happened last year it’s easy to understand why M.Booth wasn’t there...

I’m sure the fact that there were drug tests as nothing to do with the absence of some big names.

Steeve Teihotaata wrote on FB that he collapsed close to the finish line, he had no more water before the first half of the race. I don’t think the fact he rode a dugout as much to do with his failing.

Flatwater and Touring / Re: Long distance adventure touring

Funny, I was thinking to start a thread like this one on multiple days expeditions. I’m planning to do almost the same thing as Robert « Blue planet » did, circumnavigation around an island (here in Japan), something like 200km...
there are so many ways to do long expeditions, some do it slowly and take time to explore, some have support, others don’t... i want to do it without support, on my sunova allwater 14x25’5...

Hi Okiwild
Nice to have videos from Okinawa. I paddle in Kansai /Shikoku area. Last time i was in Okinawa 6 or 7 years ago I couldn’t find anybody on a SUP or any rental place. As you said things change.

I agree with maxsonic who agreed with jimK... Buying a cheap knockoff will finally  cost you more money, with less fun in the waves.

smaller days where I just can’t get a ride . So thinking of maybe a hard longboard in the future..  Not looking for performances

Hi everyone and happy new year,
Nice to see that CaptainKook became CaptainHooked.
It seems there’s confusion between a longboard /a board designed for noserides etc other longboard tricks/ and a longer board. A longboard can be shorter than a board with a more regular design. Length doesn’t mean everything, as said above, rails , rocker and every details of the design counts. So don’t buy a board on internet with no info on the rocker etc. Even (or especially) if it’s dead cheap.
You’re looking for a groveler, à board for tiny mushy days.
Have a great 2019

Foil SUP / Re: Wing boyancy
« on: November 12, 2018, 06:02:56 PM »
Hi,

“The only problem i have is the boyancy of the wing”
Some of the best foils ,like the Gofoil, float...
“it pushes the board out of the water.”
I thought it’s exactly what it’s supposed to do. Do you mean you can’t stand on the board when the board is stationary ?
“removing the polystyrene and replacing with a more den
How would the volume differ between the 2 foams?”
How can someone answer without knowing the exact products you used neither the volume of foam+ carbon/epoxy weight?
If you want it to be heavier just had some carbon or fiberglass, it would be stiffer at the same time and much easier to do.

You’re not joking?
Cheers

Funny, we’re a few Frenchies on the zone but nobody replied to our fellow Frenchman Photofr... and why to complain here and not on the few french forum dedicated to SUP???
I learned the lesson
Better to ignore sometimes
