Hi Walnut
I have ridden an 8’-10” Speeed for quite a few years now and it remains my go to board for fast beach break waves under head high. I also have a Creek and Revolution but most times find an excuse to take out the Speeed. The rales are quite refined as it hides its volume in a doomed deck. I have ridden an 8’8” Speeed and didn’t find the stability an issue but I am quite a bit lighter (72 kg). To unlock the potential of this board you need to be on your back foot near/on the kicker. It doesn’t turn from the middle. Fin selection makes a difference and C-drives what I use after lots of trial and error. I have tried the Quoba fins on it and prefer the hold of the Cdrives. There are lots of posts on the Seabeeeze SUP site about the Speeed. It will be a very different board compare to your longboard shape but perhaps a good complement. Cheers Bob

Hi Noonoo
I have two of the boards that have come up in this discussion, the 8’10” Speeed and the 9’ x 30” Revolution. Both work well in small knee to waist high waves but come alive when a bit more energy. The Revolution is a performance long board shape that is made for turning off the tail and walking up to the front. Lots of fun in smaller waves and might be a good complement to your current board. The Speeed remains my favourite board that I always seem to find an excuse to take out. It is a wee bit less stable than the Revolution but not by a lot. They are both fast down the line and both turn best off the tail but in different ways. How you fin them seems to make quite a difference in how they ride. The Revolution I have set up as a single fin long board (it has a longboard finbox) and the Speeed with either Quoba’s or Cdrives. Your 9 year old might be better off learning on a soft top Wavestorm to minimize the inevitable body and board contact drama which we all encounter at some point. I am just getting over a nasty fin slash to the bottom of one foot. Cheers Bob

Great Video Cookie
Thanks for posting. I am interested in the cart you are using. Did you build it? Can you post about it? Diagrams and dimensions?
Cheers

Hi APPST
I think my hyperfreak 4/3+ (4.5/3.5) may be more durable than my Psychotech suits. I can't find a fault with it. I was out boogie boarding with a couple of geriatric friends yesterday in a howling storm however and decided to wear the Psychotech which I recently repaired a bunch of small holes in the rubber panels front and back. It is a very warm cold water suit.

I am a cold water SUP surfer. I am happy with my Psychotech hooded 5.5/4 suits but this year got a Hyperfreak 4/3 + hooded suit that has taken me into the winter. I really like this suit, light, warm, flexible and dries quickly. We shall see if it is durable. The back rubber panel of the Psychotech suit was abraded by my waist leash. Not an issue with the hyperfreak and the hyperfreak was about half the cost of the psychotech.

Hi I have been using a silicone repair tape as well as a double sided silicone mounting tape for grip on my paddles and been happy with the results. So far the double sided tape has retained its tackiness and does not seem to pick up sand. I used paddle wax previously and found it a bit messy.
Cheers

This is fantastic deal ($100) for someone with a 10'-10'6" board 32"-33" wide and lives in the Boston area!
These Sunova bags are well made and bomb proof. I have been using one for 5 years and no issues.
Cheers

Nice warm session this morning. Still paddling out whenever I can. One of the smaller days this winter but definitely one of the warmest. Thanx for the stoke, Zoners. surfercook
Thanks Cookie Nice waves and surfing. I am also impressed with the bike trailer for your board. Did you build it? Do you have any sketches? I trailer my board a lot and like your design. Cheers Bob

I would also include Solite booties as part of my protective gear- best booties I have ever had. [/quote]
+1 on the Solite Booties. 3 mm in the summer (cold water) and 3 mm + neoprene socks in the winter (very cold water). Durability is ok. One pair lasts about two seasons. Internal split toe. As close to bare foot as I have found for a bootie.

For wave riding on an SUP where it is a bit shallow (5 ft deep, 6 ft waves) and there is some danger of bumping the reef during a hold-down after a fall, what do you think of a bump cap under a 2 or 3 mm neoprene hood?
or a Gath SFC (Surf convertible) (it to their lightest helmet I believe)
or a Simba?
Simba seems like it might be overkill, but is it better than a Gath SFC in terms of whiplash? I am not too concerned about cost, but want to be pretty safe and wondered if the bump cap (Ergodyne Skullerz 8945) might be enough?

Zack I have used a Gath surf convertible for years now. I have a large for going hoodless and extra large for going over my hood in the winter. Flat black colour and I painted over the little white wings on the sides to convince myself that it looks like I have a hood on. I get clunked on the head by my board at least once a year and I always wear the helmet. I try to remember to put it on when I trailer the board down to the beach behind my bike. Probably the bike ride has a greater risk of concussion than does surfing. That said if you get concussed surfing your risks of a bad outcome are higher than if you fall off your bike. Perception of risk is interesting. Years ago when I used to kayak quite a bit I looked into the risk of dying when white water paddling. Insurance companies keep this sort of data. It was interesting to find that the risk of dying driving to the launch site was about an order of magnitude greater than that of white water paddling. Bob
