Gear Talk / StandUpZone Rocks -- Upgrading Deckpad

I had a brilliant idea of upgrading the deckpad on one of my SUPs to an OAM Dave Boehne Blur Pad.  Watching the following video, I thought this looks easy enough so I grabbed my hairdryer and got to work...



Two hours later, after barely making progress I started searching on the Zone and after reading all the threads on the topic came away with... "if I only did this search earlier I would not have embarked upon this project... but since I started I figured that I would chalk this up to something I did once, but never again!" 

I decided to stay the course and got back to work.  Two more hours later, I was now 2/3 the way through but the rest of the pad would not budge.  I decided to change tactics and follow Wazza66's advice on this thread from 2011:

I laid out towels soaked in mineral spirits over the remaining deckpad and covered it in plastic.  Lo and behold, the next morning, the deckpad came off in 15 minutes!  Thank you Wazza66 and StandUpZone!  If anyone else wants to remove their deckpad, the process laid out worked for me.

Foil SUP / WSL video of Kai Lenny foiling at San Onofre

I am sure many of you saw it, but World Surf League put out this video on their Facebook page last night of Kai Lenny foiling at San Onofre. 

Kai is now riding a 3'8" foil board... crazy!

Gear Talk / Sony RX0: RX100 meets Action Camera

I am not a professional photographer or even hobbyist but my favorite personal camera has been the Sony RX100 with its 1" sensor all packed in a compact form.  It makes even my amateur shots look good and in the hands of my professional photographer friends rival shots from Digital SLR cameras. 

Marrying the RX in an action camera package looks incredible especially for professional photographers/videographers:

I am unaffiliated with Sony and at $700 I may have to stick with my 2nd generation RX100 and Go Pro, but wow and drool!

Foil SUP / Foil Board Length - Is 9'4 too long for a Foil Surf board?

Lots of great information on StandUpZone--enjoyed reading about SUPUK's Foil Build, Beasho's threads on foil installation/learning to surf the foil and Robert's (Blue Planet) experiences and videos!  From what I am reading, it seems that shorter is better for a SUP board that will be used to foil surf in order to make it easier to turn and pump the foil.  It also seems like folks are having a lot of good luck with Simmons and Tomo shaped boards such as L41 and the Starboard Hypernut.

Am considering taking the plunge.  If I were to install a tuttle box onto a Pat Rawson 9'4"x30 that I have, will I find that this is board is too long to foil surf once my skills are there?  Would I be better off procuring a SIM-shaped board in the 7-8' range?  Thoughts?

SIC did a press release today on Connor winning the M2M on the 2018 SIC Bayonet with FAST...interesting how Mark has always provided unlimited boards to the big paddlers for the race but generally SIC remained quiet in the background but this year there is a press release--BIC influence?

Probably one of the hardest workers in the sport!  Interesting according to the article she is un-sponsored... though I do see her promoting her Honda Pilot but I suspect they are referring to having a board/bike sponsor.

SUP General / Crazy GoPro shots...

I have used my GoPro extensively on my SUP to get pictures of my dog, kids, dolphins, whales...etc. from my SUP.  That said, I never brought my GoPro in the waves since picking up SUP Surfing 3 years ago--must have been having too much fun!

Took my GoPro out this past week and amongst the surf shots captured this one--Splash! 

Any other cool shots that people have advertently/inadvertently captured?
