The floor is a little hard on my feet barefoot. I may have to stand on some deck pad or in a box of sand ;D

Second thought........ I have cats, so the sand would not be good.

Take a look at that, I found the leaning chairs very effective:

I hope I'll have some pics to show very soon or even better, the actual fins.

Next downwind season I will play around on my Vapor between the Spartan, Moray and Mako37 for DW to tune fin and conditions.

What about pictures of your new board :-)

You might also want to get your hands on these Luc:

- Mini Dolphin 6.5x6 @ 30sqi
- Mini Moray 7.5x5.5 @ 28sqi

Attached pics with comparison to their older (and larger) siblings

I must say the crew here down south in Florida are really badass paddlers and a very good
company to keep 8) Hope to meet some more of them in the near future.

GT is already loaded on the Ocean Ripper, just waiting for wind.
might have 2 very interesting DW fins coming real soon...

Ah,ah.....please to tell when you have a chance and more pictures of the yellow wonder would not go amiss either.

Cheers,

Luc

I agree that downwinding with a tribe is way more fun than racing! Good to see Burchas getting his new board out and downwinding with you Florida folk! Looking forward to seeing the result after it is dialed in fin-wise

You missed it by 10 days my friend :( Would have been nice to have you around for some action.

Other considerations you might want to take under account are tail rocker and fin box placement.
For instance, if your board has a lot of tail rocker and the fin box is placed very close to the tail you'll need
extra length to compensate as you might have much less area engaged.

Another option is to go with a fin with more area rather than depth, so a fin with 60 Square inches of area
but 7-8 inch deep rather than a 12 inch deep with 50sqi might feel better for you with your wide tail (if tail rocker is
low)

Other considerations would be fin template and flex profile. Some fins with a lot more area in the tip might feel
better to you and some fins with a good flex profile where the last third of the fin has some flex in it might do the
trick as well, allowing you to recover your balance.

In deciding on the length I thought racing/ocean skis are 19-21ft and work ok but...

Other than the length of the board, did you alter any other aspects of the board, such as the nose?
From the vid and pic it looks like this is a more optimized nose than i've seen on other clogs. much
narrower shoulders and lower volume on the first foot. Seems really smooth.

@Eagle, I forgot the last time I used SIC 7.0 fins and I have 3 of them :) Maybe I should use one next time and it will blow my mind. :) But on the serious note that tri fin setup on the bigger bumps was too much in terms of speed I had to slow the board down with my paddle otherwise I was gonna skip the bumps. I would rather surf them then just going too fast on top of them.

I had 1 of those SIC's fins collecting dust, gave it away to a fellow Zoners who was desperately looking to buy and couldn't find.

Awesome ride! Looks like you pretty much ditched all the friends by the end ;)
Wanted to see how it ended on that last break, that was pretty nice.

Did another one today. Gzasinets was on his SIC, me on the Fanatic, and Burchas on a cool looking yellow "Indigo" custom 16' board with a Larry Allison 4 fin setup. I don't think that fin setup was working well for Burchas today but you'll have to ask him and Greg for more specific comments.

https://www.strava.com/activities/1339547363/analysis

It certainly didn't work for me nor for Gzasinets who's way better than I am. I felt it was bogging the board and even though
this board is super maneuverable, it was not quick enough to maneuver those somewhat short period bumps we had today.

Next time it's going to be the Larry Allison GT that Gzasinets tried (and loved) on his Bullet. ( not that it will help me catch your fast ass  ;D )

Pono, It looks like too many Vientos mellowed you a bit :) I guess nothing better than winter time Malikos
to re-align. Hope you'll grace us with ONE video of crazy ass winter Maliko for 2018?

A good year of surf, crazy ass downwinders and fun for all of us indeed!!!

Good Job Greg, I see now what I missed. It turned out to be a good day after all even with the rain and all.
Next time I'll join for sure.

Have a Rain-X and XClear on the way so we can test and see if it'll take care of the droplets.
Thank god you didn't take the Trifecta with you on that run ;)

Were you rocking your Maliko there?

No.. because this race is about 3,000 klms (1,800 miles) from where I live.

That's too bad.

It sounded like there were some "sticky" conditions at least for some part of the race,
would be interesting to see how the Maliko handles that.

BTW, if you were to choose a place for year round paddling, would you prefer your area or Perth area?

Thanks DJ.
Love the watch this stuff. You Aussies seem to have it in abundance.
