Recently added SlingShot Phantasm PTM 926 to my quiver. Few session in and I can't figure out why there's so little info on these foils.
I wasn't planning on buying it, I was looking into the GF RS and ART999 but a someone who used both told me he was more impressed with SlingShot's PTM 1001 overall.

Looking at my immediate needs for a goto wing the will cover most conditions I wanted something in the 1200-1300 range for my 185-195lbs.
This foil is fantastic! It's my first High Aspect foil and I was expecting some learning curve. Not the case. After figuring out how to get over the initial stall for getting up on it
once flying I almost forget I'm on a foil.

Up until now I winged it from 10-15 under powered to 25-45 over powered. Pitch control is almost an afterthought. There's just not much input needed and sweet spot on the board
is generous and very forgiving. I usually ride it all the way to the back of the tracks but I moved it forward 2 inch on an overpowered day and the difference was really minor.

Whether mowing down upwind bumps or carving and running over downwind bumps there's never too much lift and the glide lets me recover most times when I fuck up.
For my skill level as an early intermediate, this foil is just easy to use, predictable and confidence building. The smallest yet easiest foil to practice jibes. Stoked.

After such a good experience I'm considering staying on the Phantasm train and get the PTM 1001 for my next size down.

Anyone else care to share?

Wingsurfing, Windfoiling, Wingfoiling, Wing SUP / Winter winging gloves?
« on: November 25, 2021, 02:11:41 PM »
Having decided to stick around for a longer period this winter I realized Glacier Gloves is no longer a viable option. It used to be the case I could get the model I like around $20 on Amazon but prices more than doubled and 3 pairs per season is an expensive proposition.

Any recommendation for a good winter winging glove that would last more than a season?

Wingsurfing, Windfoiling, Wingfoiling, Wing SUP / Drysuit anyone?
« on: November 25, 2021, 01:52:09 PM »
As winter looming around these parts I'm wondering what's the convential wisdom on the topic when it comes to winging? I like wetsuits as much as next Hawaiian guy :D and I can barely make them last for one season. The fact I need to have 3-4 of those makes things even worse.

Going through the Black Friday deals I realize I can't even get the wetsuits I want, deal or no deal, no stock available. So made me think about a different option. What's your experience?
Surfing mostly downwind bumps.

Foil SUP / GoFoil RS Series?
« on: September 23, 2021, 07:29:30 AM »
I've seen some post about 2 GoFoil RS wings 1000 and 1150 (see pic). Anyone has more details? Specs, Availability experience on the water?

I've been doing a lot of light wind wing foiling and I couldn't help noticing my tail literally sucks. To a point I really wouldn't mind taking a saw to the board and cut the tail clean.
The only thing stopping me right now is mast track position uncertainty. Capping the board after the cut should be fairly easy but if I have to re-install the tracks it's just not worth it for me.

The board is a Kalama E2 inspired shape with a lot less chines and more planing surface. 6'3" x 28.5 @129L (see pics). The Kick tail starts at 12" modified to a 5'3" straight tail board.

Currently the mast is all the way to the back and that works best for me. Winging I more comfortable standing a bit forward off mast position.
My 10" Tracks are 1.5" forward from the kick. Can I get away with this mod without changing the mast tracks position?

Rough day today. Managed somehow to decommission 2 wings ::)
Damn pinholes, couldn’t figure out where the leaks are. Still got 4 hours out of it.

Now wings back at the shop. Not sure how long that’s going to be but
That brings me to the questions:

How many of you keep spare bladders?
How common are these pinholes?

Sessions / Big board sessions

Strong on-shore winds makes for a sucky surf ocean side but super fun big board surf on the other side.

Time to upgrade the toolbox. I've been talking to Peter from LP Foils about this for a while. Now that he's finally moved his shop to Lyle, he started working on this beauty.

  • PVC deck
  • full carbon wrap
  • Innegra

Downwind and Racing / Empty waves of the other kind

When the wind is up and the surf is meh I prefer the path of least resistance. A glide is a glide. Empty waves galore 8)

This board has been a year in the making. Mixing features from 5 different boards including my own custom shape which served me really well until few days ago when I buckled it in rough surf after a good ocean run.
So many moving parts to a shape it is apparent why many shapers like to stick with their own shapes, it could be emotionally draining. I once had a shaper quit on me because he was so stressed out getting it right, can't blame him.
Thankfully, programs like shape3D X probably takes 70% out of the guesswork when giving it to someone else to build, the rest of it I attribute to the build itself. Unfortunately the learning curve for the right build is just as steep as shaping it if not more and I don't think there's an App for that :o

With that in mind, big shoutout to Tino and Sunova for making it so easy and affordable to work with them while they are taking on a custom shape. Tino based the pricing on the Sunova Search since this shape dimensions is between the search 12 and the 14 plus 10% extra they charge for custom. I then upgraded from TR3 to XXX construction but keeping the Paulownia wood VS Balsa making the rails carbon/wood sandwich and adding solid wood Nose/Tail blocks which they usually don't include on SUPs.

This board is my Downwind/Outer bar surf board for Long Island, NY conditions. Here we go
