I have not seen nor tried the TRACE.  The watch does give you a readout or every wave ridden with speed and distance.  Also a total of distance ridden and paddled in a session.  Plus a Google Earth photo of the spot you surfed with the track of your waves overlaid.

Got the watch. Strapped it on and became obsessed.  I had seen my wife's friends get those things that count yor steps when you walk.  I had seen them finish a walk, look down and realize they were a few hundred short and take off down the block. I'm the same with my wave count now.  Really crappy surf, one wave session.  Really good surf, thirty waves.  Small surf, forty eight waves.  And the distance is amazing five to eight miles paddling/riding in a session.  So in 55 days surfing this summer, 1,806 waves, 315 miles paddled/surfed.  The riding works out to about 20% of that.  No wave hog comments please, I'm often out alone.

Surf cowboy- I am 6'2".  I also have a couple of other TVD's, 6'6" and 6'10".  I am totally sold on the shape.  Super stable and fun.

Here's a shot of my 7'5" SIMSUP TV Dinner.  It is 29.75 wide and 115 liters.  I weigh 170.

I've been riding a 6'6" x 31" TVD everyday since November.  Now, where I live here in Mexico, the surf rarely gets more than 2-3 feet overhead.  On that size wave you can go straight to the bottom, wrap your toes around the inside rail and crank it.  I Have never felt anything but positive grip on that maneuver.  As long as you move your foot way over to the outside rail, the cutbacks are very positive too.

I think that if you come from a surfing background and want something that really acts like a surfboard, TVD is the way to go.

The 6'6" TVD on the right in the FB post is mine.  It was the first one Kirk built.  I've been riding it since October on a daily basis.  I absolutely love this board.

This morning I grabbed a Riviera NUGG, 9'2" x 31", for a distance paddle.  My 6'6" is more stable than the Nugg.

The whale shark pattern would make a cool airbrush.

I recently received the newest model from L41, the TV Dinner.  I have been fairly obsessed with finding out how short can you go on a SUP?  This one is 6'6" x 31" x 115L.  I am 6'2" and 170 lbs.  I am extremely happy with the way it turned out.  I have surfed it in some really fun reef and point break up to slightly overhead. My only complaint would be slow paddling, which you would naturally expect.

I got a nice off-season session today on a solid New Zealand SW.  Anclote a little overhead with light offshores and six people out.

Surf just dropped to nothing here in Maui so I was cruising the Zone and found this.  Bajasurf pretty much nailed it with his description of the area on page 8.  I understand Linters frustration as last winter was the worst in the past eleven that I have spent down there.  I have both a car and a boat so I surf pretty much every day, but that does not mean it is good every day.  This year the crowd situation just exploded.  The big tour company, Vallarta Adventures got into the surf lesson business, bringing 12-15 beginners to La Lancha every day.  Additionally you have the surf schools from Sayulita bringing in people as it is just maxed out over there with crowds.  This has pushed the three prominent Mita school/boat trip guys to move out and over to Bahia and El Faro, which never really saw much school action before.  Anclote is a total zoo.  I rarely ever surf it anymore except maybe at dawn.

This is the third Kings Simmons for my wife.  She is really comfortable with this design and wanted something lighter.  This one is 7'10 x 31" x 115L and weighs only 13 lbs.  Dave built it from one pound foam and glassed it with Innegra (vacuum bagged).  It seems to be strong too.
