Wingsurfing, Windfoiling, Wingfoiling, Wing SUP / Re: Baja Daze

Hey Admin. Really, really sorry to hear this. It just sucks. I've appreciated all the advice you've provided and how enthusiastic you have been in promoting this sport. I'm still in the very early stages of learning winging but you have helped me a lot. Most of the equipment I have purchased has been on your recommendation, and it has all been "spot on".

Thanks again for all you have done. Hope that somehow you can find a way around this, and if not can find something else that gives you as much pleasure.

Gear Talk / Re: Winter Gloves for the wing-ding
« on: February 06, 2021, 10:47:37 PM »
This is my first cold water season and finding cold water gear that works and fits has been a up hill battle. Closest water sports shop is 400 mile away so shopping has been mostly trial and error online, so I thought I'd share what I found as far as gloves go.

I found two pair that work pretty good with my wing ding. The finger gloves that work the best for me are the Ride Engine pre-cruved finger 2mm gloves. They don't require any extra effort to hold the wing handles which is a big deal for me. But on some slippery surfaces like my foilboard it does require a some extra strength to keep it from slipping out of my hands. Strange that the Thailand made gloves I've seen all have slippery-er grip surface coating on the palms. The China made gloves I've seen seem to have better palm grip surface. Anyway, the warmth is good for what they are 2mm no lining gloves. If I could figure out how to improve the surface texture these would be the perfect glove for moderate cold days.

https://rideengine.com/products/2mm-gloves

The other pair I like are mittens that are really nice on colder days for my wimpy hands. Kokatat Inferno Mitts 3mm with some nice fleece lining. The grip is perfect as everything sticks to the palm really good. The curved finger shape and the grippy surface texture sticks good to my board and paddles... better than bare hands. Zero extra effort to hold anything. I'd go as far as saying they are a net positive gain on holding onto things. The down side to the Kokatat mittens is the cuffs are on the loose side and can let water in. The sizes run small. Also the quality of the seams are NOT near as good as the Thailand made Ride Engine or O Neill psycho Tech mittens. But they perform so much better than my 5 mm psychotech mittens that I don't care that they likely won't last as long.

So for anybody who can't handle cold hand these are two gloves you might want too consider.

Perfect timing. I was just looking at winter gloves and the Kokatat Inferno mitts were one of the ones I was interested in. So I have two questions for you.

If you fell and were in the water, would the Kokatat mitts let in a lot of water?

And secondly, if you had on a full wetsuit, so the mitts went over top of the wetsuit sleeves, do you think that would do enough to create a tighter seal and stop water coming in?

Thanks for any information you can provide.

Ruby Tuesday - great song. ' Cute girl - no voice.

Seriously??? Wow. More than a little surprised at this comment.

But I guess that's what makes music so great. We all have different tastes.

If you grew up in the 60’s like I did, you might like “The Trial Of The Chicago Seven.” Great movie on Netflix. Is about the trial of some of those charged after the Chicago riots at the Democratic Convention where Hubert Humphrey received the nomination to run for President. Is a true story and very well done.

my leashlok waist leash has a really nice velcro pocket that keeps my key safe.

Thank you for this. I have the leashlok waist leash and had no idea it had a pocket. Had to go and check, and sure enough, there it was. Very cool. Thanks again.

Doe your significant other have eight arms?

Now that’s funny!

O.K., after all the talk here, and truth be told I've been thinking about it for a while now, I just ordered the Apple Watch 6. Now I have to wait almost a month to get it! Oh well, they say good things are worth waiting for.

Clearly there was sexual content that the movie didn't show--or at least Admin is certain of that.

Possibly it is because anthropomorphism is just inherently sexy but I saw what I saw on day 273.  That kind of tenderness, the unspoken lure of 2000 tentacles, the convenient privacy of the nearby kelp forest.  It happened.

Wow, Admin. I’m going to have to watch it again. I really enjoyed it the first time, but next time I’m going to turn the lights down low, close all the curtains and snuggle up to my significant other to see what I missed the first time around.

Mine is just a plain loop, no buckle, no magnets--called the solo loop. Just stretchy. The only way it's coming off is if it breaks, which doesn't seem likely.

Thanks. I looked at that one (online) and wondered if it would be a pain slipping your hand through the loop every time you take the watch off and put it on. Sounds like it’s not an issue though. Thanks again.

I bought an iWatch6 after watching about the first twenty minutes of the launch. Got the aluminum one with the loop band--love the band.

I’m seriously looking at the iWatch 6. Think it might be a Christmas present for myself. I’m curious as to which “loop band” you ended up with? I count I think 4 different loop bands. I am considering the “sport loop”. Is this the one you are referring to?

Gear Talk / Decision On New Inflatable
« on: September 13, 2020, 01:30:12 PM »

My wife is thinking about getting a new inflatable board. She currently has a generic brand 12’ 6” x 30” inflatable. It’s a decent inflatable, but is older and she got it before the lighter inflatable boards came out, so it is pretty heavy.

For reference, my wife is in decent shape. She is 65 years old, 5’ 2” and maybe 120 pounds. Her hard board, which is her main board, is a 12’ 6” x 27” Bark Contender.

So she is looking for an inflatable that is not too heavy to carry. She wants something that is stable, but less than 30” wide. Because she is smaller in stature I’m thinking 30” is too wide for her. She does find it quite a reach on her current 30” wide inflatable so she would like to go narrower if it’s possible to do so and still have decent stability. Deck bungies would be nice, but not mandatory.

She plans to use it for general touring, things like midnight paddles and to possibly take if we were to travel somewhere.

I’ve done some looking and have kind of narrowed it down to either the Red Race, 12’ 6” x 28” or the Starboard All Star Inflatable, 12’ 6” x 27”.

Kind of leaning towards the Starboard as it has a center handle and deck bungies. I also remember reading a post from someone on this forum that the Red Race 12’ 6” x 26” was very tippy, so not sure how stable the 28” would be?

But I would like to hear from others. Any thoughts on either of these boards? Or any other inflatable boards I’m missing? Thanks.

Stay safe everyone!
