Thanks for the info guys! Based on what's said here and some other reading, I think the 2020 Bullet is my first choice with the V2 Bullet or Maliko in second. I do have concerns about the durability issues on all these boards though. Are the other boards mentioned here (e.g. JLs and Hypr) close in non-surf performance b/c they seem to be much more durable?

Thanks Luc, good info, and I like the sound of the 2020. The potential construction issues though...

@gzasinets - have you been on the 2020 Bullet, or can anyone else compare it to the V2? Of the ones listed so far, any clear favorites for stability in chop / small bump performance?

I used to SUP surf and do some bay paddling, but I've spent a lot more time in kayaks the last few years. I just dug out the 10'10" x 28" old Bic Jungle and took it for a spin, and I'm now motivated to look for a new board for my 50th birthday. Here's what my usage is likely to be in order of frequency:
1. Paddling on the local bay (Bellingham, WA) in all conditions, incl. downwinding.
2. Taking it to the coast when I kayak surf. This would likely be kayak surf in the morning, SUP outside the break in the afternoon + windy days. Surfing performance isn't critical, but I want to be comfortable getting out and back in through shore break.
3. Dedicated downwind trips to the gorge.
I'm not planning to race so I'm happy to trade some top end speed for stability. That said, my balance is decent and I like fast things :-) - I'm thinking one of the 14' boards. I'm 5'10" and 180lbs. Let me know what you think.
Thanks
Michael

I didn't see an obvious way to reply to this, so (finally) adding the pics as a second post. It's 8'5" x 32" @ 135L. Also looks like all three fins too a hit, with one being worse. The board itself is in great shape. Asking $750, thanks.

I need to take some pics, but in the meantime I wanted to get this out there for a price check. I got the board in Sept. 2015, but it's only been in the water 5 or 6 times. I had a back injury and haven't surfed for 1.5 years. So, I've finally conceded, and the board needs a new home. It has some scratching on the front of the deck, and it has rail tape on it (if I recall a few scratches before I put on the tape). And it has a rock ding on one fin -- from its first time in the water . Anyway, I haven't been keeping up with the sport and would like some advice on price. I would prefer a local pickup -- Seattle to the Canadian border -- but I'm open to ship if I don't get local interest. Thanks!

Thanks for the replies, I hadn't checked the thread for a bit. We're going to Kauai on Friday, but maybe Maui next time. Swell is not looking very promising... surfcowboy, I will IM you.

Thanks, I should clarify that I already sup surf, just not very good. Would like some help with top and bottom turns. I'm thinking Kauai is more likely but info on either is appreciated.

Looking to spend 7-10 days with my wife on Maui or Kauai (preferred) in November. I would like to take a few SUP lessons while there, but probably not a full blown camp. Let me know if you have any suggestions, thanks.

I am flying down to pick up a Vanagon in Fort Bragg, and I would like to turn the drive home into a mini SUP road trip. I will bring my wetsuit, but no board/paddle, so looking for 1-2 friendly spots with SUP rentals -- ideally camping nearby. I am on a 9'2" Fanatic -- rental doesn't have to be high performance, but prefer not to be on a total log. Then again, I'd still rent it... any advice is appreciated.

Thanks man, that's just the help I needed. I think the strait is the ticket, but my wife really loves Tofino (as do I). And who knows -- maybe surfing earlier in the week and skiing later on...

I live in Bellingham, and I was thinking about taking a trip up to Tofino next week during my daughter's school break. She's a beginner surfer and I'm slightly past beginner on a SUP. Here's the current long range forecast from Surfline:
Nov 21 (Wed) 10-11ft 12s 247° (WSW) 8-9ft 9s 175° (S) 2-3ft 10s 321° Nov 22 (Thu) 6-7ft 8s 222° (SW) 5-6ft 11s 284° (WNW) 3-4ft 8s 158° Nov 23 (Fri) 6-7ft 5s 173° (S) 4-5ft 10s 272° (W) 1-2ft 18s 183° Nov 24 (Sat) 17-18ft 10s 188° (S) 2-3ft 15s 189° (S) 0-1ft 0s 0° Nov 25 (Sun) 13-14ft 11s 202° (SSW) 4-5ft 6s 274° (W) 4-5ft 12s 274°
We have been out at long beach, cox, and chestermans before, so a little familiar with the area. Given our skill level and this forecast, do you recommend going at all--and if so, what areas would you look at to be more protected? Thanks.

Second the midnight products bag. I got one for my 9-2 Alllwave. It's a coffin style ~8 inches deep. I took the Allwave to Kauai and came back with that + a longboard for my daughter. The boards fit great and the bag is very high quality.
On the counting the boards issue: from Seattle to Kauai, they asked me how many boards ("one"); on the way back they didn't -- they just went by weight and overage would have been the same as a suitcase ($50), but I unpacked some other gear into another bag. Your mileage may vary -- a max length and weight are more fair than the arbitrary number of boards, but that's the airlines.

Thanks for all the responses so far. Here's some more info and questions.
More Info * The crew: * Me: beginner sup, but might be more of an intermediate by the time I go * My wife: non-surfer, but beach and water lover * My 13-yr old daughter: beginner surfer
* Budget: middling -- rent should prob. be no more than $1500/mo
* I will need to work (online) while I'm gone, so this won't be all surf all the time. On the other hand I would like to be surfing as much as possible. I like being in the water in general (e.g. downwinders), but I'm really going to get as good as I can surfing in a year.
* I would like to mostly stay put around one place for the year so my daughter can settle in somewhere for a bit.
* English is preferred, but I would be willing to learn Spanish.
Questions @PonoBill and others: What spots would you recommend in Maui as a home base?
@Supthecreek: I like the idea of Noosa, but then I look at Surfline and get info on it being very inconsistent. Is that just the main point?
@fms: Thought about Raglan. What did you like about it? Any other NZ spots you think would be better as a base?
@piece of 8 and @localkine -- I have been considering Nosares in Costa Rica. Thoughts? Other suggestions?
@Supmmm -- where in Chile?
@newton333 -- I live in NW Washington, but I'll think about it :-)
