Downwind and Racing / M2M - Perfect downwind run in Portugal

Here is a small video of my commute from work (my SUP Center is in Matosinhos and I live by the ocean in Miramar). The DW run is called M2M (Matosinhos2Miramar). 13,5 km with perfect conditions.

Downwind and Racing / Downwind in Portugal with SIC Bullet 17'4 FAST and dolphins (video)

My favorite race of the year is the Nelo Summer Challenge, 21 km run in Northern Portugal, usually with perfect conditions and with a few hundreds riders with surfskies (like legends Oscar Chalupksy, Jesper Mocke and... Michael Booth!!!), OC1 and SUPs.
Unfortunatly the wind was absent during the 3 day waiting period and I had to paddle the whole run with the Bullet 17'4. Despite the massive effort I was always close to the the top 3 finishers (riding All-Stars).
The day after the waiting period the wind returned and it's been like that the whole week (and next weeek to). This is a solo run between work (in Matosinhos where I have the SUP center) and Miramar (just below the city of Porto), where I live. I just had to take with me the keys to the house, some flippers and the rest of the safety equipment (cellphone, double leash, impact vest and screw driver).

Downwind and Racing / 40 km downwind run on an unlimited in Portugal - video

So, I'm always saying that we have world class conditions for downwind in Northern Portugal. We have a growing group that is doing more and more downwinds. Yesterday, one of my mates borrowed my SIC Bullet 17'4 FAST and did a massive downwind run, with great conditions: 41,52 km in 4h04m, with an average speed of 10,2 km/h. So that you know how good it gets here, surfski legend and multiple Molokai winner Oscar Chalupsky is living here and says it's as good as some of the best places he has been. He broke his personal record this here in Portugal: 80 km in 4 hours 30 minutes (on a surfski). op speed 30.8 km/h average speed 17.7 km/h fastest 1 km 2 minutes 54 seconds.
Here is a video of part of the DW run from yesterday, when another friend of mine on a SIC Bullet 17'4 went to support him along 20 km.

Gear Talk / GoPro Hero

Hi guys,

I'm looking to buy a GoPro this Christmas to give it to myself

Unfortunately, with all the boards coming in I have to go to the cheaper versions. Is there a big difference between the GoPro Hero3White and the Gopro Hero? Do both come with surf mount? And do I need to buy a memory card?

It's Battle of the Paddle Week ! Starboard, SUPRacer.com and TotalSUP are organizing a pretty cooooool contest: the Name Battle. Name the 2015 huge 8-paddler board designed by Mathieu Rauzier and which has just come out of the Starboard factory without a name...yet!
