Some great surfing !   Looked like every drop was 8 feet.

We got a good string of wave days in RI.  I surfed Friday and windsurfed Sunday.

« on: October 05, 2021, 04:58:17 PM »
I have a 10'6 (155L) stylemaster and it's great fun.  My other 2 boards are 8'3 (135L) and 8'6 (125L) fish shapes.  My dry weight is 80kg.   I jump between the short boards, and the stylemaster in different conditions or out of convenience of what is with me.  Observations on the Stylemaster:
- It's more difficult to surf than the short boards.
- It's slow as hell on a choppy wave.
- Very easy to bury the nose,  need to be far back on takeoff.  Nose will bury in chop also.
- It takes 2 steps back to do a pivot turn.  You need to be way back to turn and grab a wave.
- It is very fast on a big glassy wave.
- It is catchy.  I can get onto a wave very early with it.
- Added some traction to the nose and waxed around the pads.
- Nose rides great.
- It's bigger than I would want for pure surfing.  I got the large size so others could flat water paddle it.

If I was forced to keep just one board,  it would not be the Stylemaster.   Not a 1-trick pony but not an all-arounder either.  I would definitely recommend one to a friend.  For the OP's original question,  I would have said 125L Jimmy Lewis worldwide or similar.

Surfercook,  your last shot is spectacular !

After 2 days (3 sessions) in RI,  I got a taste of BIG on the Cape Cod beach break.  Similar to NJ I bet.  Much more power and pucker for sure.  My second RI outing was at the K,  which is the opposite relm,  a wall that never closes out.

Post up some Larry shots !

I surfed in Rhode Island Wednesday and Friday.  Saturday afternoon I hit up Marconi on the Cape.  The best 3 consecutive surf outings I have ever had.  Don't think I paddled for less than a six foot wave in those days.

New York Strip ..  Fry pan or grille outside.

Best unusual recipe:   Dust with cajun spice,  blacken in pan,  Pineapple salsa on top.

Random / Re: the Corona Virus, One year of Covid-19
« on: May 24, 2021, 09:35:01 AM »
A vaccine against a highly contagious, potentially fatal disease is available that is astonishingly effective, all but eliminates the potential for you to spread the disease to people you care about, with no significant side effects for healthy people--and you choose not to get it. But you vaccinate against Shingles--a potential source of extreme discomfort but not life-threatening, only contagious by direct contact with fluid from the sores to people who have never had chickenpox and are not vaccinated against it. What keeps you on the fence?

The efficacy of masks has now been extensively studied and demonstrated. No, they are not as effective as a properly fitted respirator--they aren't a talisman, or a political statement, just a tool. People wandering about with a filthy mask and their nose uncovered look as stupid as someone with their pants under their dick. That doesn't make a mask ineffective for you unless you choose to do the same thing.

I had a Hernia operation 2 months ago and the doc said no covid shot for a while.  I still put the shingles vaccine at a higher priority FOR ME.  Now that the state of Hawaii is talking about letting folks in without a test if vaccinated,  I will likely get the shot if they indeed change the rules.

I just have trouble believing that mask wearing accomplishes very much.  For Dr's and nurses wearing them properly and using the correct masks,  yes I can believe.  For the average person wearing a mask that doesn't fit tight, is made of cloth, and gets washed once a week, not so much.  I guess it prevents someone from sneezing on you.

I was exposed to covid for 3 days, no mask, due to my son having it. We shipped him back to his bio dads house where everyone was sick once we knew what was happening.   I Never caught it.

I'm not an anti-vaxer, getting my 2nd shingles shot monday.  But still have not done the covid shot.  I'm on the fence.

I have a 2020 Tacoma.  It comes with 2 keys,  each with electronics for lock/unlock.  Convert one key to your surf key.  Open the turtle shell,  take out electronics and buttons.  There is a second potted electrical device in the key that allows the vehicle to start.  That small part is not removable and can stay.  Put a string on it and you can now wear it around your neck.

I would think this would work with just about any modern car having an actual key.

Gear Talk / Re: NEW KENALU PADDLE!
« on: December 19, 2020, 02:53:51 PM »
I ordered the same exact paddle 2 days ago.
Have had a Ho'oloa 84 (xtuf) for a few years and been happy.   I had a pulled muscle injury at the front end of east coast hurricane season this year and didn't want to stop surfing.   I took an old fiberglass adjustable paddle and wittled down the surface area to get me smaller than my 84 by a size.  It helped alot.  I didn't notice a downside to less area.

So going for the wiki74.

Great stuff,  Beast needs a beefier paddle.  I have that same one as my backup and it's a noodle even for my skinny ass.

The Mo Freitas video is great to watch.   See the duck dive standing up at 3:00 ?  Amazing he stands on the other side of the wave.
