NorthEast / Surf shot camera setup
« on: August 20, 2015, 06:35:28 AM »
I am selling a camera body and lens that is really the perfect setup for surf photo's.   Used this lens to shoot the Wellfleet SUPathon in 2014,  as well as numerous "sessions" posts on this forum.

Canon 7d body,  400$    Canon 300f4 IS lens  775$

Will add in a camera bag and memory card if I can sell this locally.

The camera was originally a 1700$ body,  Lens is 1350$ new,   all in great shape.

Any zoners live in Maine ?

I will be up visiting relatives,  Boothbay area,  on the Damascotta river.   Looks like some swell for this weekend.   I know about Popham beach,   There is another beach at reid park that I have boated by before.   Any little surfable break near Boothbay ?   I saw some breaking waves northeast around the corner from ocean PT, (mouth of little river) last year that might have some possibility.

SUP General / Wellfleet SUP A Thon
« on: June 09, 2015, 11:42:28 AM »
I will cross post this here and Ante up an offer.   Event is Saturday AM.  Some of you must be involved.

I will donate $50 to the Event charity in the name of a person who lends me a board.   Not looking for carbon fiber racing equipment here,  just a decent ride that is somewhat suited for the event.

Just signed up for this event.   Just for for fun.   Either my wife or 10 year old son is going to run for me.

Does anyone have a beat up SUP that's say 10'6 or longer that I could borrow for the race ?   I would buy it if the price was right.   My 9ft Sealion is really only good for waves,  and I'm slow enough as it is.

cheers,  Jay

Wind Powered / Misc Windsurfing gear for a start up kit
« on: May 01, 2015, 02:04:33 PM »
I am selling masts (3-430 carbon gorge nolimitz), sails(north 4.7zeta 5.3instinct), and other parts (a foot/uni, base extensions) .   Just trying to get rid of the stuff locally.  On the cheap.   Good if anyone is interested in putting together a starter kit.   It is all well used,  but still some good life in it.  I am in Southern New England (CT RI MA)     PM me if any interest.

Gear Talk / Paddle flex - Kialoa insanity adjustable
« on: April 18, 2015, 09:47:16 PM »
Hello everyone,   I have been using a Kialoa insanity adjustable,  91sq in blade.   I am tall,  6'4" so using it extended almost all the way.   It's all I know,  starting my second year surfing with a 9ft 150 ltr board.   The paddle seems to flex a lot when I dig in a few strokes to catch a wave.   My body type is thin (170lb),  not a muscle man by any means.
What is the performance implications of the flex ?   Am I getting this energy back ?  Does the flex help in any way or take away from my wave catching power?  It's a fiberglass shaft,  I can see the flex to the point that don't pull as hard as I could.    I really don't want to change what I am using till I am good enough to know what I want,  and also question the blade area for the surfing.

Any input is appreciated.  JP

SUP General / Newport RI advice
« on: March 29, 2015, 06:24:46 PM »
I will be in Newport this coming Friday and for now, it actually looks to be warm with 4-6ft waves.  SSW swell / SW wind.   I have never paddle surfed Newport.  Usually south county RI or Cape Cod.   If the wind is up I will windsurf or windsup,  and have a pretty good comfort level sailing.  For SUP paddling,  I'm a novice by comparison.   Was wondering if there are any places that are smaller surf or easier if conditions are big.
Matunuck is my normal go-to in South county. If Block island buoy is over 8ft, I usually wimp out and go inside the PJ jetty.  Staying at hotel right on first beach,  so I figure I would check out first and second beach.    Any advice is appreciated.

SUP General / New anti-shark paint job
« on: December 14, 2014, 04:37:15 PM »
Many of you have seen the striped anti-shark wetsuits.  The same company makes a huge decal to put the same zebra on the bottom of a surf board.   I paddle my sup at coast guard beach during summer as well as a few other spots the GW's have been showing up.  Spring and fall I'm in Rhode Island where things seem quieter.   Here it is:  I used masking tape and a mega sharpie.  With the yellow,  it's like a giant caution sign.   Might turn out to be a better anti-theft device than anti-shark.   Some extra peace of mind for when I'm the first or only one out.
