sometimes i need a quick switch to redirect while paddling into a wave, and I fumble--not good--miss the wave, risk pissing off others.
pono, your words help, and the videos illustrate i will repeat at home, such that it's automatic on the water waves round here today and tomorrow, but picked up a bad cold---grrrrr 2976

ya--all good re the choke stroke (often on knees) to get back out when in impact zone--after falling, or when paddling out into sets. seems to come naturally when sets threaten!
it's about the paddle into waves and while on a wave i like pono's language-- and ya, lotta good TOW these days---just now using the paddle while on the wave--vs holding the damn thing and surfijng fun at my age to improve at a sport constantly vs trying/failing to maintain long ago learned skills (see tennis, skiing, proning, etc) 2977

hope you had another board with you! sound like nice conditions.
i once found a hairline crack on the bottom of a long proner board, across the board, perpendicular to its length. I thought someone had over-torqued roof straps. repair guy asked if i did floaters ever, and said he sees stress/buckle cracks all the time on bottom of longer baords used for floaters. i land em clumsily at best, so that made sense. unfortunately the repair sucked. guy must not have used enough hardener in epoxy top coat--still sticky after years, picks up sand has to be scrubbed to smooth with a green pad. given that, any suggestion on how to deal with sticky repair area? i thought to just spray it with epoxy paint, feather/sand edges, but worry it'll be a mess, on top of sticky uncured epoxy. and I dont ride it often--too much fun on my wp, and gotta keep pushing to wire my S3 2979

thx for the advice pono.
i will mess around on the coffee table tonight. and yeah, TOW cures most everything. I monkey-see but most good riders switch so quickly/cleanly that you can't really see the detail of how they do it. 2980

This seems basic, but somehow, despite that I ride lots of waves, I get futched sometimes when switching hands/sides with my paddle.
Not a particularly big deal, but do any have suggestions for clean, quick switches? 2982

I rode my s3 for the first time in real waves on wed am long island.
could be waves were a bit big for a first day riding, but i flailed a bit, frankly. the glassy conditions were what made me conclude there was no excuse not to get on it. Where i can make the big drops, turn early and get down the line on my WP 9 5, i was squirrelling often unable to make the turn after big drops. had waves been 2-4ft instead of legit 4-6 and steep, i might have had a better day. thurs it was a bit choppier, so i rode the WP 9'5". made it seem easy comparatively. I will keep working with the s3. I feel fine paddling around on the s3, and once on the wave, when i make it, it feels great. just want to get it so i can drop/turn cleanly and consistently. th morning was a surprise--predicted smaller than wed, but it was just as big and held til i crawled out at noon. loving the fall! 2983
