Rockaway had 4 days of windows for Earl goods.
Saturday was a classic. Big aframes all glassy and head high. First big session since my THR. Surfed as well as ever. Didnt even think of my hip once. I am redeemed. Of course now my shoulders hurt!
That rock's a dead giveaway JPeter. And that spot may be the shit when Fiona visits this week.
Ill be out of town for a good reason, so i will miss out. grrrrrrrrrrr

lane steered me to the xtuf from the get-go, when i told him of my bad shoulders---like i say, ive swapped and bot other paddles---nothing has ever come close to my mana/xtuf/ergoT combo

you will feel much better with the xtuf

ah I see -- kenalu is very much in business -- youre just throwing crap bc youre not happy with the disposition of your broken shaft situation.

xtuf shafts are 145$ -- complete paddle about 475$ and up

not sure where youre getting a complete paddle for 145$

ive used kenalu for some 15 years. ive tried other paddles and always happily returned to kenalu.

and ive had nothing but good experience dealing with lane vs your disingenuous post.

anyone wonder who the problem is here??

i will take better care of my manas -- and my hoaloa too, for that matter

hopefully they are ok -- always enjoyed working with lane -- he got me a paddle stat before a trip a couple years ago

SUP General / Re: Starboard Pro vs. Infinity Blurr v2, thoughts?

my 2020 starboard pro blue carbon 8'10" x 29" is my go to board -- i am 6'2" 195 lbs 63yo -- all fast NY area beach break -- i believe that a key part of the preferred performance is the relatively skinny width for a board of this size -- it is tippier positioning than wider boards, but on steep face it holds better and stalls/accelerates nicely -- it is light for its size, swings well, pumps great incl back into section -- like i said,  it's my go to

i just surfed baby waves first time out since a hip replacement 10/15/21 -- board felt great, tho a little tippy after hiatus, but the hip felt bomb proof   lol

i have previously owned a widepoint 9'6" (first surf sup), an airborn widepoint 8'10, and a 2019 blue carbon pro --- they all served me well, given stages i was in

here's where starboard owns me: my 2019 pro surfed great but had a legit defect underfoot -- kept cracking just from normal use -- starboard sent me a brand new 2020 (my current go to) to make me whole

i am chomping to but a new pro, but want to get wet some more before i choose size

prevailing message: consider the skinniness of the pro--as an attribute on the wave, but as a contributor to tippiness when positioning

i have a board buying problem, but have never owned an infinity

tax break a big handout to dealers -- rarely is a private sale worth it, given the tax savings, and hassle/risk of private sale, when tradein offsets new car bot at a dealer.

ive heard that, if you will order and wait a few months, you can pay sticker or the usual under sticker price.

My biz partner just got delivered a 2022 jeep gladiator -- he was quoted 2k over sticker for immediate delivery in jan -- paid 40K under sticker for a 3 month out delivery

Pricey car imho-- sticker was like 70K -- love my subaru foresters -- at 23k each i feel no pain as brooklyn and my family of 6 drivers trashes them -- and they drive perfectly adequately/reliably/safely for me.

Check this concept. But for the need to care reasonably for one's hideously expensive vehicle battery (80/20 charge, drive regularly, etc) these things make sense. And seems the company could take good care of batteries within their system:

great care in nyc too!

anterior thr 10/15/21 -- leg's stronger than ever after intense pre hab and 3 mos of super intense daily post hab -- pt next week to get me stretching again -- til now zero impact and no twist allowed as texturized and plastic hardware fuses to bone -so i am very strong but very tight-- plan is to paddle flat water in april, surf by may/june -- hope is ill be able to prone popup too, for the first time in a long time

im totally impressed by the efficacy of this procedure

get a "skierg" if you want to stay paddlefit and cardiofit via upper body -- great machine--with that and my stationary bike i get serious HIIT workouts -- 63 yo and still kickin'

all of what pono said--
incl his warning that we steer clear of blinding dogma.

and, for the dogmatics, there will always be a kookbook or a soundbite to reinforce fallacy.

resist, keep your brain turned on, be humble and thoughtful---dont be a dogmatic.

pain after pt?? ice is nice

however you get there -- directed by a PT, or not -- if you have a serious orthopedic surgery, do as much pre and rehab as youve time for

im 5 weeks into an anterior thr--rode a 40 lb citibike 45mins to 5am surgery-- wanted to be warm and loose when they knocked me down--trained hard prehab--was as fit as ive been in years--wife picked me up and I was home by 1pm--

since day 10, ive been spending 2.5-3 hrs per day, including cardio and icing, 6 days a week--and i walk 3 miles rt a day to/from my office
my surgeon says exertion is good-- no impact or aggressive twisting -- and no falls

with all the band work and other leg specific work i am doing, my leg may be stronger than before surgery--and  i was a daily cyclist and surfed 50-60 sessions in the last year--ill need to be patient as my surgeon says full bone fusion takes 6-8 mos, and i dont want to do this again--i intend to be ready for 2022 storm season here in NE

all people i know who've reported great results and resumption of sports, after orthopedic surgeries, have said that extensive aggressive rehab was the most important input to their process

invest and youll get your best result -- in my case a bad result would be very depressing -- so i invest

best luck getting wet again -- work it and ice it -- i have a polar ice machine bought on amazon --works great -- 249$ -- seems minimal given what the surgery cost in time efffort and $$
