B-Walnut. I have been foil surfing(SUP) for the last 3 years on the Oregon coast. Its amazing. Your friend is lying to you or is unaware. I have foiled wave sizes from over head(scary as hell), to ankle height. Most of the time its Chest high and lower where I go. Yes you can get a DW / Foil SUP board. For example, my first foil SUP is a starboard 7'4 hypernut. It will do foil SUP. Downwind, and winging. Bring it dude. -red

Appst. I would just chop the Maliko tail for now and keep trying the 14 flip. The chopped tail provides enough lift to help pop up out of the water and is not too big to still have fun and haul ass.
I think the 18 flat would be better for winging and would not mess with it now.. Focus on getting up on the new HA wings then move to the flat tails.
The first couple of times I rode my 14 flip in the surf I also felt like nothing was there. I quickly moved back to the chopped maliko. It was when I first winged on the 14 flip where I figured it out. It is so fast and it + the GL120 require just more forward board speed and dont/wont jump out of the water like the M200..
You can delay the inevitable with the Malkio Chopped, but the 14 flip is the tail for surf with GF for now. -red

I am pretty sure he is saying how great the wing is, especially since there is no handle GAP.

Cowboy, I feel that I need the middle gab handles or miniboom, mainly when I am climbing up to stand. The distance to grab the back handles is too much of a stretch and having the miniboom and or middle handles alleviates this. Without the middle handles and or a miniboom, you'd better be ready for the power when you reach for the back handles. Maybe its just me only having 40 some odd sessions on the wing. I am back and forth jibing, not tacking yet. Pop up immediately to foil etc..
There is also a one handed middle of the boom stand up move that Alan Cadiz does.
JonathanC, also mentioned a kind of neutral flying use case. I have also one handed my SLing 5'4 with the miniboom. Great feeling, total control, and gave my other arm a rest.
I cant believe I/we are still typing about this gap. dont... "fall into the gap .."

Thanks for sharing.
Unbelievable to me that folks are still leaving a huge gap in the hand strapping right in the middle. I would immediately be installing a mini boom on this wing..
Can anyone think of a good reason to skip one or two handles?.. Dont tell me weight. !

Folks, received my S26 110L board and it is great for me so far. I am 160 lbs and the board i learned on is 7'4 106 liters. The Naish S26 110 Liter is 5'10 and its awesome for winging and stand up paddle surfing at my weight. One thing i noticed was when I breach the foil and smack (winging) the board recovers really well. I realize this is away shorter board but its also 5 liters more than my 7'4 starboard. I think its the rails and what not. When I am stand up foiling on it I noticed immediately that I need to be in more of a surfer stance before takeoff. The short length and the current operator, tend to cause it to pearl or wheelie. Its super stable side to side, but when you are dropping or tucking into an explosion or just glassy face, you have to really be on it front to back. once i started doing that it shocked me and picked up to foil behind the wave.. I pumped into the face and then into the wave in front of that one. Swing weight was rad Winged in on the PNL185 + 14 flip and GL210 + 14 Flip Surfed it on GL210 and Chopped Maliko tail. I am stoked on this board and hope the deck pad does not bubble up. :0 -red

Hi Gone.
Sorry, I am using the short pedestal and trying to create a tiny bit of lift at takeoff and then during pumping.
I made a credit card shim and put it under the front bolt(closest to mast) and the thing wheelied out of control. I obviously shimmed too much but a credit card is pretty thin.
I just wanted to *see* what is working.
I understand this setup gets squirrly on larger waves. I have experienced this first hand. Thanks -red

So I have been avoiding shim talk until now, but when I see jondrums and beasho typing about it, I pay attention..
Beasho, I thought you posted a pic but I cannot find it.
Today I tried a credit card shim on the front screw of my 14 flip. The rig wheelied wildly out of control on my shoulder high drops. I could feel it wheelieing even before I caught the wave, as I was paddling(trying to catch the wave). I know guys are saying that the lift shims on tail wings can be unstable in larger drops.
Will someone please post a pic of thier 14 flip lift shim or send the link to the thread. I cannot find it.
I am looking for a tiny bit of lift, mainly to help pumping.
Thanks in advance. -red

Yes I still stand up paddle surf (WHEN THE FOILING SUCKS).
Love having my foil, wing dings and my stand up paddle board all in my rig.
I go our dawn patrol, foil if I can, if thats not working I stand up surf, If that is not working because of the wind, I try to wing ding.
There is another thread somewhere in here where I go on and on about how foiling helps my stand up surfing. I still truly believe that foiling helps your surfing and surfing helps your foiling.
Its good to get off balance on your standie from time to time to kedep yourself in check. -red

Admin, Thank you for all of you efforts putting this up and keeping it running.
I'll start with my story. I started reading this board back when I got into standup surfing. Roughly 2014( maybe)...
loved the stand up crowd. daswusup told me I should look into foiling and here we are..
***Any way I can kick down some $ as a donation to pay for hosting/upkeep?***
Thank you so much and I hope to meet you in the gorge someday.

Looking forward to getting my hands on this and the PNL185.
Surfside, where can I buy the PNL180? I do not see it anywhere? Thanks -red

Hi, I have been riding the gl240 and NL160. Both for winging and sup. I only use the 6.5" tail with a shopped flat tail to 15". After testing this setup, I sold the longer tail. Cutting the tail improved my turns and reduced damage on wings and legs. I don't really understand why the companies keep using these sharp tails, when the different in speed is just 1 or 2 knots. My only advice, is check warranty conditions when buying big wings; the mast tends to brittle when overload.
PA, how much do you weigh? -thanks red

Appst, I think the tail is right but I only have the short pedestal 14 flip.
One thing that I would recommend is to go back to whatever tail you are used to. The HA wing is so much different than the M200 that you will want some consistency. I would also say that the GL210 has less lift than the M200 and that you might benefit from a fat ass Maliko blue tail.
I have been running my GL210 with my Maliko Blue Chopped tail only.
I bought the 14 flip / Short pedestal and felt like I did not have anything to stomp against when trying to get to wing. Its like my back foot pushed down into the water more and I was not able to engage the foil. I know that as I progress the 14 flip will be awesome but I am just sharing my experience with the GL210.

Team Wing Dingers, How do you store your wings? I was thinking about this earlier and then I saw Badger's thread. Thought this might be a more appropriate long term subject line. I basically throw my wings on the ground in my garage, ever so often flipping them until they are dry. This happens after they lay outside for a while.. Now that I have multiple wings they lay on top of each other in the most inefficient way taking up almost two garage bays. ! I am hoping to see creative wing hanging rigs here. Thanks in advance. -red
