I don't know what FB is... Ok I know what it is but I could give a sh!t about it all. I also dig the zone... Mainly because of the mellow aloha attitude here.. There are no old guy curmudgeon trolls here playing smart ass, chiming in on every post with "You should read this or research that before posting. bla bla bla"... I am also impressed that this board has managed to not dwell on Pronie stink eye too much.. We all get it, and I think talking about it on message boards can sometimes perpetuate the whole pronie vs stick man controversy... every now and then there is a stink eye post.. which is OK, but nobody dwells on it for to long. I also like: - HCWSUPB thread
- the clever responses most folks have..
- the amount of activity on the message board here, its hourly
I am addicted. -red

Just following up, I am happy to say this proposed legislation did not pass. The more I thought about it, the more ridiculous it became to me.
Here is a copy and paste from an email surf rider sent me declaring victory
Thanks for anyone who participated here. Surf on..

___________________________email from Surf Rider_________________ "Surfing is NOT A CRIME in Pacific City! The decision is in on the Pacific City “Navigational Safety Zone” We are STOKED to announce that today the Oregon State Marine Board (OSMB) voted unanimously to deny the petition to create a "navigational safety zone" and exclude surfers from some of the best waves on the North Coast! This is a major victory for recreational access at Cape Kiwanda!
A major factor in turning this decision in our favor was the massive groundswell of support that you provided through your petition signatures and hand-written letters. Surfrider's ability to influence decisions like this is only as strong as your support, we couldn't have done this without YOU! Whats the next step? The stronger our chapter network and membership base is, the better poised we are to continue protecting our local ocean, waves and beaches. I'd like to encourage you to take the next step in continued support by joining us as a member. A paid Surfrider Foundation membership provides much needed financial support for both your local chapter and the programs and staff that work to turn campaigns into victories. taut, thanks for posting this.. I was just typing up a similar post. The more and more I SUS, the more and more I think about the paddle and specifically the length. I have a hard time getting any of my fellow stick folks to nerd out with me on this topic so I bring it here. When I started to SUS, I used a longer paddle on my 9.6 board. I used the technique to size the paddle where you stand and raise your arm over your head(elbow almost locked) so that your hand just bends over the grip. I am 6 foot(160lbs) and this longer paddle was 81 inches. This seemed to be fine, then I started having twinges in my right shoulder. I then bought a naish 8'3 x 32 and decided to try a different paddle length. I went aggressive and cut my new Kenalu to 73 inches. Here, with the handle on the ground the bottom blade edge is pretty even with the top of my skull. I remember seeing Kia standing next to his paddle and the blade was as tall or shorter than he. http://www.naishsurfing.com/kai-lenny-takes-first-da-hui-backdoor-shootout-2015/http://cdn1.naishsurfing.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Screen-Shot-2014-04-18-at-11.30.02-AM.pngMy main SUS buddy and mentor says my 73 incher is too short, but is unable to tell me why. I personally find it more "flickable". This is a term we used in motorcycle riding that described the ability to throw a moto around in the air based on what you were doing.. the lighter bikes were more flickable. Here the short paddle flies across the deck much quicker.. Anyway.. I have no shoulder pain anymore and am loving the new shorter paddle. I went back to the 8'3 paddle just to test and found it clumsy and slow. I'll try the longer paddle with my 9 foot + boards and I bet it will work there better.. I do not notice any bracing issues, but I do know that the last 95% of the stroke.. on a long stroke, the paddle comes out of the water quicker.. This is for example during the last 1 foot of the board at the end of the stroke. Totally stoked on the short paddle, having a hard time convincing myself to go any longer. Another thing you don't hear many folks talk about is backside paddling in surfing position.. This is MUCH easier with the short paddle. I would also add that front side paddling in surfing position is also way easier. These are quick digs while you are catching/in the wave.. This post only applies to SUS.. -red

I have not been back through all 1031 posts in this thread....lately...But I believe that this one truly matches the subject of this thread. The pic also captures some other interesting areas I have not seen. Notables are: - Multiple Hot Chicks on a single board(ok maybe I have seen this)
- 2 paddles for 6 chicks = 6 hands per shaft
- Blatant Alcohol consumption on the boards, and Glass at that
- "Gateway to Somewhere Better" formed by the paddles..

Skim Boarding makes me cringe.. I used to do it as a wee boy, but now when I watch it I just feel my knee ligaments popping.
I enjoy coaching skim boarding now.
Go see an ART ( Active Release Technique ) specialist to repair your shoulder. You will return to sport quicker with this in addition to any PT you are doing.

Pono, Are the tiny paddles next to you in the pic adjustable, or do you surf with the Time Bandits?

Bill, Interesting that you were rehabbing your shoulder. I am doing the same. Some old man put a huge plate in my shoulder with 11 screws. clavicle.
I live in the Willamette valley and after many years of sports injuries I have grown tired of the medical community here not taking me serious when I say I want to get back to sport.
This old man, who I hope did a good job did not understand the hazards of stand up surfing or surfing in general and after 6 weeks told me that I could flat water paddle.
So.... I built this rig and am flat water paddling in my pool.. he wants 6 more weeks before he clears me to hit the surf..
I am using my new short paddle that I bought at your shop, which helps.. nothing over the head..
Will post an action shot tomorrow.

This feels strange to post..
I have my longest board attached to my coil leash, then attached to the diving board in my back yard pool. The coiled leash allows me to apply consistent pressure against the diving board while paddling. Here I am basically paddling in place for some period of time. Trust me when I say a static rope was awkward.
Question: From being around pools most of my adult life, I am aware that chlorine has its way with anything it touches. I don't want to trash my board or my paddle but I am loving the workout sessions I am getting in the back yard, free of wind and what not..
Anyone use a surfboard and or paddle in a pool for extended periods and seen any damage?
I rinse off my paddle after but am often times wanting to just leave the board in the pool ready for my next sesh.
What thinks you?
PS: I will try to post a pic as I imagine it is funny looking.. I am guessing my neighbors think I am swimming REALLY fast.

Thanks Bill, I figured you would. Please pass it to your OR buddies as well.
The thing that erks me is that those guys are hardly ever there. Seriously, I have been out maybe every third day for the last 6 months and have seen 4 boats go out / in.
Most of the Dory guys don't have an issue with us..
Besides its the pronies that they cant see.. I am always telling them boats are coming..
