Folks, I am going to leave this real open and keep it simple,
I am so stoked to be foiling. I give it all to my brother who planted the seed in my head.
To me this took surfing not to the next level, but to 5 levels above it.

It started foil surfing, now its winging and towing for me, fortunately.

Admin, I put this here as its the most used section.

CALL TO ACTION: Please post your stoke. thanks.

Foil SUP / Go Foil 14 Flip Shim
« on: June 23, 2021, 04:42:20 PM »
So I have been avoiding shim talk until now, but when I see jondrums and beasho typing about it, I pay attention..

Beasho, I thought you posted a pic but I cannot find it.

Today I tried a credit card shim on the front screw of my 14 flip. The rig wheelied wildly out of control on my shoulder high drops. I could feel it wheelieing even before I caught the wave, as I was paddling(trying to catch the wave). I know guys are saying that the lift shims on tail wings can be unstable in larger drops.

Will someone please post a pic of thier 14 flip lift shim or send the link to the thread. I cannot find it.

I am looking for a tiny bit of lift, mainly to help pumping.

Thanks in advance.

General Discussion / Admin, Thank you for the Stand up Paddle Zone!
« on: June 15, 2021, 06:57:47 AM »
Admin, Thank you for all of you efforts putting this up and keeping it running.

I'll start with my story.
I started reading this board back when I got into standup surfing. Roughly 2014(
maybe)...

loved the stand up crowd.
daswusup told me I should look into foiling and here we are..

***Any way I can kick down some $ as a donation to pay for hosting/upkeep?***

Thank you so much and I hope to meet you in the gorge someday.

Team Wing Dingers, How do you store your wings?

I was thinking about this earlier and then I saw Badger's thread.
Thought this might be a more appropriate long term subject line.

I basically throw my wings on the ground in my garage, ever so often flipping them until they are dry. This happens after they lay outside for a while.. Now that I have multiple wings they lay on top of each other in the most inefficient way taking up almost two garage bays. !  :)

I am hoping to see creative wing hanging rigs here.

Thanks in advance.

General Discussion / Surf Rig - How do you hide your keys?
« on: May 01, 2021, 09:33:37 AM »
Team Standup Zone,
I recently upgraded my surf rig from 98 expedition to a 2016 suburban. The 98 was easy to hide a key in a little hide box under the body.

This new rig 2016 suburban has a fancy key that you just keep in your pocket. I believe if it is near the rig you can push a little button on the door handles to unlock the truck. Anyway my just hiding the key under the rig or close to it doesn't help me much because someone could just come push the door handle unlock button.

There is a little key that comes out of the Key fob.

Anyone come across this predicament?

Thanks in advance.

Wingsurfing, Windfoiling, Wingfoiling, Wing SUP / Is a pump, a pump?
« on: April 19, 2021, 02:56:35 PM »
team wingers,
I have sling pump that I have used on a Sling 4'2 and a 5'4 without issue.

I bought Keys' 7'2 Naish and when I pump it up with my sling pump, boy its tight even getting it to 7 PSI. And I feel like its going to pop. Everything seems fine at 7PSI, but I dunno, it just felt like more of a struggle getting to 7 PSI..

I am guessing because its a larger kite with more total volume, I just wouldn't expect it to feel like it was going to pop. I imagine the fancy little Naish valve may have something to do with this as well. (?)

If anyone responds with, "no red a pump is not a pump and you need a naish pump", then i quit.

Thanks in advance

Foil SUP / Foiling teaches me to be a better surfer
« on: December 14, 2020, 08:24:20 PM »
Team, Foilers,

I am a better surfer because I foil.

Went out for a regular surf session the other day because it was too big to foil. I have spent the majority of my surf sessions over the last 2 years foiling. Every time I go back and surf I am a little rusty but I do find myself using little techniques I use foiling to catch waves and smack harder.

Here are some of the little things I do regular surfing that I learned foiling, that help me rock without a foil. Its a great feeling. My secret foil powers.

  • Unweight the board more on takeoff attempts
  • Pump and unweight the board along the ride, more
  • Charge already broken waves, and catch them
  • Keep my feet more down the stringer line
  • I feel like I look around more once on the wave to asses/choose my line

What have you learned from foiling that helps you regular surf(sup or prone)?

Foil SUP / What is your favorite Stand Up Foil Board
« on: November 13, 2020, 09:40:25 AM »
Team, I am riding a starboard 7 foot at 106 Litres. My foil rig is legacy GoFoil long mast with GL210. Moving to an NL 160/130 soon. Have flip tail (14) on order. I pretty much catch and ride any wave I can get in front of. I am in Oregon and the conditions are rough. Lots of water moving around with current and tide shift. The 7 foot starboard is a CHAMP in these conditions, allowing me to move around on the flat water quickly with little effort.

I am looking for a new board. Something 6 foot or under around 100 litres or maybe less. Looking for lighter swing weight and more maneuverability without sacrificing flat water paddling and tracking abilities as much as possible. I have a base plate so I can go with any track based board.

What are you all riding and why do you like it?

Please include rider weight, board specs, skill level and foils used.

Thanks in advance

Foil SUP / Foil Etiquette
« on: September 13, 2020, 01:19:07 PM »
Touchy subject, yet important in my opinion. I do not want to re create the crappy wheel so if this is on another thread here, tell me, and then Admin, delete it.

I am seeing more and more foilers pumping back out in the lineup causing confusion for prone surfers. You see them(prone/standup surfers) start to drop then pull back because they are scared and or do not know where the foiler is going to go.. I even see foilers cut in front of surfers (coming from behind) to then smash the powder. You have all seen this if you look at as many foiling videos as I do. I guess I can't ignore it.

I understand we all don't have places where we can foil without others and I cannot help to think that this is causing eminent stink. i would hope that foilers can just stay away from the line but.... ANYTHING FOR THE GRAM!

To me its hard enough learning to surf, learning which direction people go, then all of a sudden you have folks pumping back out towards you. Are they going left, right....

I know this is a subset of the larger foiler population.

One of my favorite parts about foiling is that you do not have to do it in the line. If anyone asks me about foiling I tell them its amazing AND NEVER do it in the line.

It would be good to preempt this and call it out like it is to correct.
What are your thoughts?

Foil SUP / Un-Weight Bump Start - Larger Wing
« on: July 11, 2020, 05:41:58 PM »
Team,
I have noticed something that I believe is happening with my M200 and not my G210, for maybe obvious reasons.

I have been riding my G210 with my little cut down blue tail (see other thread somewhere) and I am having a tougher time popping the wing up to flight. I understand the GL 210 to be a bit tougher to fly initially on smaller waves, but once you are up its on.

Anyway. When I am catching waves with the M200 and cut Blue Tail, I am paddling, the wave is coming up behind me, I do this little un-weight, kind of toe scoot forward. I believe I learned this Stand up Paddle Surfing. My thoughts were that by un-weighting the board temporarily, I would shed drag temporarily and generate a bit of speed....

Well When I do this on the M200, I feel like that fucker is so buoyant that when I un-weight, the wing is literally floating up slightly and therefore shedding drag and putting me in a position to drive the wing down to initiate flight. Making it super easy to catch waves. Someone will respond..."Red the M200 is just easier to catch waves..."... I know... read more pls.

This does not happen on the G210, I feel like I need to be more in the pocket/peak/driving section of the wave. ..
 I am on a 7'4 106l board and weigh 160lbs.

What thinks you?

Wingsurfing, Windfoiling, Wingfoiling, Wing SUP / Offroad Wing Skate Board
« on: February 21, 2020, 05:50:04 PM »
What is the best off road wing skate board folks are using? I would like to get something that would work in grass and or the beach. Possibly with full or half foot straps. Maybe the ability to change out wheels based on sand grass etc. I looked through this category and did not see this discussion. Let me know if I did as i don't want to re invent the wheel here.

Thanks

Foil SUP / red's Go Foil Blue Tail Hack Job
« on: December 05, 2019, 11:03:03 AM »
I took the advice of beasho, jondrums, and others...steamroller etc that posted on another thread regarding cutting down tail wings.

Beasho and team keep me straight. I felt like I had to move my feet(and I cannot remember which way but they felt like they were both more forward and closer together from a stance standpoint(distance), if that makes sense.

Night and day difference between the stock legacy Maliko tail and the new version
-Reduced flat paddle drag (maybe in my head?)
-Increased YAW, PITCH and ROLL. Unbelievable 3D control, almost like mind control. "if you think left, you go left"
-Tail Slide - Like jondrums typed on the other thread, the tail slides like a skateboard tail slide across the coping.. if you push it, it will "break" loose and slide.
-Easier to get to FLYING from the takeoff
-Increased pumping.(%75 percent better) I, for the first time pumped half way back out on my huge standie. :)
-Faster once flying. I could not believe it, but I felt like it was even faster on the FLY due to less drag I imagine.

How I did it. (attempted to remove ~2 inches on both sides)
-tried to measure all these crazy lines on the wing !
-marked the cut lines
-bought a diamond cutting saw blade that sat on the sidelines as I could not find the little blade chuck that is supposed to be stuck in the saw. ( Dewalt 6 inch, cordless ) So I used the standard wood blade. It slightly shredded the tip on one side. (carbon fiber, shredding) You may be able to see in the picture.
-Sanded off the tips with some dirty ass sand paper.
-Pulled it all together and sealed the tips with some white trash glass.

She flew amazing and brought life to my M200 on tiny nothing piles of white. Absolutely ripping fun.

I absolutely recommend it and am considering cutting my other one seen in the images, down even smaller.

How narrow/small have you all seen them or flown them? (beasho, johndrums, steamroller)

happy cutting

Foil SUP / Foil - Bike - Surf??
« on: September 26, 2019, 09:41:46 AM »
These are coming along nicely (puke burp).

https://manta5.com/?utm_medium=ppc&utm_campaign=US+Focus+-+General+Awareness&utm_source=adwords&utm_term=manta5&hsa_src=g&hsa_tgt=kwd-381569863188&hsa_ver=3&hsa_grp=71981828083&hsa_kw=manta5&hsa_ad=357646720238&hsa_mt=b&hsa_acc=9656711113&hsa_cam=2043598555&hsa_net=adwords&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIk7fFi_bu5AIVENVkCh007AcuEAAYASAAEgJqf_D_BwE

What would be fun is if you could get in front of a wave and ride it like a mountain bike or motorcycle down the face.

Somebody please buy one and try to ride in on waves. Please respond with videos of your experience. :)

Thanks in advance for spending the 7K.
