If it were me...I'd do as DW suggests, and sand the fuselage end to fit the Iwa, and if you ever feel the need to use the Kai again...then just use shims as needed to tighten it up.

I'd also only sand enough to lessen that 1" to maybe a 1/2", and than "mallet it" on the rest of the way...slop in the wing is no bueno IMO.

The IWA Won't go all the way on the mast. about an inch to go..
Maybe just drill and tap where it sits ?

The Iwa just came in the mail..

Hopefully it will help.
It will, I know it did me...I think you'll love it!
Hmmm. Did you get the complete set of mast/fuselage, and wing...or are you trying to retro fit a new Iwa wing onto another/older fuselage?

I only ask bechause I was speaking with Karla yesterday wrt purchasing the new 29.5" mast, and she said that they don't sell individual components just do to their production process, and all of the wings are manufactured to the individual fuselage they'll be sold with.

If you did purchase the set, then this video should help....

...and what I had to do to get both of my wings in the fuselage (I have the Iwa/M200 set).

An inch sounds like a bit of a distance, and honestly, I can't remember exactly how far I had to "pound" mine on with a mallet...but I can say that I remember thinking that "this friggin' thing is never gonna go on the fuselage", and was worried about breaking things. But then with fingers-crossed, a look to the guy in the sky, and a little Lanolin oil spray on the fuselage tip...I gave it a pretty good, solid whack, and "POP!"...the wing went right on and lined up with the screw hole perfectly.

They're pretty solid, and tough wings, so do be afraid to smack it pretty good with a rubber mallet (I actually used a plastic dead-blow), and I think you should be fine. Unless you got the wing separately, and if that's the case, I'm not sure exactly to what to tell you.

Good luck,
Dave

Foil SUP / Re: Go foil kai, Iwa, M200 kits with 29" mast now available
« on: August 09, 2018, 07:21:55 PM »
Yes, thank you. In the mean time, I figured it'd be just easier if just spoke with Karla, and she filled me in on the same. We also talked about the plate adaptors adding about 3-3.25" to the height of foil to board, and the custom mast adaptor Alex is doing in his shop that's available, and will add approx. another 3" if I wanted to get that much higher.

Had already decided to go with mast tracks, and plate adaptor in the new board I'm having made, and will play with that added distance before seeing if I will go to the mast extension adaptor...or just buy a whole new complete set of foil, and wings.

But thanks for getting back to me...much appreciated.

Just a thought....

Change your CL ads from "SUP STOLEN" to "Looking for a JP Australia SUP to purchase". Right now if the thief is looking to sell the board quickly, you'll scare him off into hiding with a CL posting like that, but if he sees someone looking to buy something he has...hell, s/he just might be dumb or desperate enough to contact you, and you could be staring at your board sooner than you think.

That said, I'll keep my eye for it as Sano, Doho, and wherever else my travels take me.

Good luck, a best wishes in getting it back. Bummed that there's A-holes out there who will do things like this, but not all that surprised either I'm sorry to say.  >:( :(

I'm starting to see/believe that the taller masts are the ticket (haven't tried one yet), and in the current board I've having being made currently, I'm going with mast tracks instead of the Tuttle box just to get the added 3" of the adaptor to lengthen the mast as much as I able to at this point.

So are these new masts (and I'm assuming fuselage) available by themselves in a retro kit, or is this just a new mast option available when you buy the whole package deal including wing(s)? If they're available separately, I may just go, and throw a Tuttle in between the two tracks, and order one from you...if the price with shipping is right of course. ;) :)

Check sizes. These new ones are sized like the GoFoils.

Companies listen and adapt to the market... the ones that stay in business at least.
As surfcowboy said they are sized more like the go foils now, seems like a pretty reasonable option.
Well that's good. Then from my statement above, "If the new Slingshots are about the same size as the GF Iwas well then I'd say they they have a chance", which from cowboy's chart (awesome chart btw, where'd you get it?)....the "Infinity 76" almost mirrors it.

So yes I agree then, they now seem "like a pretty reasonable option", and I would definitely like to give the two Infinities a try now....so I could be the one demoing "them under a SUP, in the waves, with a guy around the 200 lb. weight range on them".  ;) ;D

Foil SUP / Re: Big guys: What foils are you riding?

Having already gone the "trying to get in on the cheap" route already, all I can say is that worrying about price vs product is much like that old Fram filter commercial..."Pay me now, or pay me later" tagline from it.

Get what you think you need, and works (at your size, if you're looking to play in the surf, the Maliko 200 would probably be your best bet...and the maybe the Iwa if you think you'll need something smaller on the "big" days).

But I wouldn't use money as a reason for not buying the right tool(s) for the job, and right now I haven't seen or heard of "bigger" guys on SUPs getting anything but the larger Go Foils to work for them. Could just be that way my little neck of the woods though, I'm sure others will chime in as well with more, and better info.

My signature line has my size below, and I finally bought the Iwa/M200 combo after trying to get in with two different foil setups )one that you've already mentioned), neither of which came close to lifting/flying me like even the Iwa does, and the M200 I've used twice just to see what it would do in smaller stuff (to head high+). But found that I like the turning capabilities of the Iwa far better even in nothing surf, so haven't used the Maliko since...but others I know absolutely love it, and swear by it. So there's that. =)

OK, that's cool and all...but imagine the guy's very first time when he said, "Hey, I wonder if I can pet one of these sharks like I do my Labradoodle?", and then went out, and actually tried it. Must have a custom made wetsuit to fit his pelotas in it.  :)

Paul has seen the light.  He sold his Creek last week.
Hahaha...I sold three of my SUPs several weeks ago, and now only have my 9'6"x28.75" Laird (that I can't remember the last time I was out on it), and a 9'6" wide-bodied tugboat I keep for friends who want to come out, and learn to paddle.  :D

Yeah, still not sold on them until I see them under a SUP, in the waves, with a guy around the 200 lb. weight range on them.

Small foils are fine for surfing or behind boat/jet ski, under a kite, or sail....but I've not seen one that's worked well enough for the bigger guys on SUPs.

When the Go Foil Kai came out there were plenty of them on SUPs, as it was the only size available initially, but once the Malikos, and Iwas came out, I've not seen a Kai on a SUP since then...that's locally at Sano in less then head high+ conditions I should add.

If the new Slingshots are about the same size as the GF Iwas well then I'd say they they have a chance. If their smaller than that, and more in the neighborhood of the Kai...well then not so much. JMO obviously.

Wow, that sure was a nice looking bunch foiling waves there Ralph...maybe with the exception of all of those "speed bumps" paddling around out there with you. Looks like you're getting that thing down, and having a bunch of fun on it....well done!
