Yes nice score, I would pick up an 8'6" SF Lean in a heartbeat.  Great board for small to medium conditions. Sold my 8'er.  Still trying to decide if I should get an 8'6" SF Lean or go with the Destroyer MP 8'5"?

I feel ya, I'm in SC.  The best wave season is late summer & fall when the tropical storms & hurricanes roll by.  Otherwise, it's mostly mid tide or wind swell surfing that requires being at the beach to git sum.

SUP Gear Reviews / Newly Acquired / On Order / Re: Smik Hipster Twin
« on: April 10, 2019, 05:58:38 PM »
I've been thinking of trying the Super Frank as a twin.   8)

The SF works great as a twin with small trailer fin.  I rode my SF/lean as a twin with a 3.25" trailer for over a year. It worked great, quick turning & faster with less drag.  Also, as a quad, with cheap Futures Thermotech trailers (better cant angle than expensive trailers), I fount the SF had similar performance and slightly more stability.

I really like the shape and size of that SMIK tho, I may be in Luuuv.

I use the Black Project Surge 82 paddle with medium flex cut down to 70"  It has plenty of flex, it even eliminated the shoulder pain I was getting with another brand paddle.

I can relate Zooport, you aren't the only one.  A few years ago I purchased an SUP Sports custom Hammer.  I even paid full price for a custom carbon board.  The board was glassed way too light with what appeared to be only one layer of glassing. The board buckled in small surf the 2nd time I rode it.  I spent a lot of money to have it repaired, then it buckled again in another spot.  I only got a handful of sessions from the board before it went into the dumpster.  I notified Wardog but was only offered a 10% discount on another board purchase, no thanks.  In years of SUP surfing, it has been the only board that I have ever buckled & it buckled twice, definitely a construction issue.

To the Op, try a Jimmy Lewis Super Frank.

I'm the one in Charleston, SC with an 8' x 30", 115ltr Super Frank lean for sale.  Super fun board, $895.  Includes railsaver protection, hexatraction & 5 JL fins.  Would prefer not to ship, but possible if buyer arranges. Otherwise, can meet in SC for pickup. Shoot me a pm or email on left if anyone is interested.

I've got my KeNalu shortened to 70" and it's been fine.  Just use a fair amount of glue all around the handle insert.  I did have some issues with the Extendable length handle due to the extra taper but the regular handles are fine.

There should be no reason to slow it down if you get the Lean model.  I ride the 8' SF Lean (115l) and have found that it rips on all sizes of waves. The Lean models have thinner rails which probably help.

Jimmy Lewis Super Frank Lean - 8' x 30", 115 ltrs.  Great board that rips in a variety of wave sizes and makes small waves super fun. Love this board and shape and plan to get another one in a different size. Board is in perfectly fine condition with no damage. Durable & light JL construction. Includes 5 JL honeycomb fins and Railsaver protection tape. $1,350.

I have an SUP box and can ship if buyer pays shipping from South Carolina.

Hope you like it, I'd like to hear how it compares.  I usually don't like wide boards because I've found them to be slow but it will be interesting to hear how the regular SuperFrank rides since I haven't tried one.

Mmac, I forgot to ask, how well does the Frank turn with the flat rocker and full length semi hard rails? I expect it doesn't carve like a board with more roundish rails. Does it need to be ridden from the tail?

Do the rails seem chunky at all? Does the board feel corky?

It turns super quick, probably more pivoty quick rather than carving quick. I haven't noticed anything negative about the rails and it does have plenty lot of rocker.  The flat section is small which is probably why I find it foot sensitive while paddling.  The rocker allows take offs from the steepest waves without pearling the nose. The wider nose also allows you to lean forward and paddle hard for waves without nose diving. The rails on the Lean model are thinned out from the center of the board which creates a bit of a domed deck.  The rails are even thinner than those on my SuperTech and are nothing like the fat rails on the WW. It doesn't need to be ridden from the tail but like most, the further back, the quicker the turns.  It doesn't feel corky, I would describe it as a bit fore/aft pitchy until you figure out where to stand.
If you're ever in Charleston I'd be glad to let you check it out. I'm considering adding an 8'6" SF Lean to my quiver and may even be co-erced into selling the 8'er.

A delay in the shipment of the 7'6 x 31" Super Frank has given me time to reconsider. The better choice would definitely be the 8'0 x 30" but as it turns out, they don't have any in stock.

At my weight of 170, I think the 7'6 at 115 liters might be too much volume and thickness for such a short board.  I didn't want to take the risk so I canceled the entire order.

I guess not many have tried the board yet. I was hoping for more input. It's not easy buying a board on specs alone.

.

PS, I think the 8'x30" Lean model would be perfect for you.
