Technique / Re: my turns to catch a wave are ugly - help
« on: July 04, 2016, 04:02:04 PM »
i actually did practice in flat water, really there were long time between sets. this may sound weird but i was always trying to turn my board with the paddle.............once i started turn from my waist, turning it with my body i started have success. almost like planting my paddle in water and just rotating my feet and the board follows. sounds wierd but seems to be working.

anyone else notice this?

i am goofy and practices paddling on the right, i def am not as fast and cant get the last bit of umph i can on my left. so i paddled on the right and just switch to the left at the last moment. also a buddy of mine gave me invaluable feed back............look where i want to go, sounds so simple but it really helped me. i started looking to the right and it was easy to catch the wave and head down the line.

now to practice in larger waves, come on big south swell.............

yeah, thanks for input, i have now started a quiver. fun to have multiple boards, but once you go there the wallet suffers!

all my boards have scoff marks from me paddling to catch waves, except the ones with rail tape.  i am a convert and will have it on all my future boards. actually wondering why it doesn't come standard or as an options? i shop that installed it puts it on the top edge of the board, when on a wave it doesnt even touch the water.

go for it

i demo'd it and wow it surfs really well. i have added it to my quiver and really like it in small to medium waves.

i got the 9'7", it rocks! it is perfect for me 6'2" 210lbs. i have taken it out in soupy windy conditions and i can balance, but it takes some energy, in smooth water it is super stable. i did demo the smaller and larger 10' 2" and the 9'7" is just right. i have only one day with shoulder to head and it rips, and amazingly i can paddle into waist to knee small ones too. cant wait for some large winter swells. it came with a longish middle fin, so i got a GL set and it has loosened right up.

i also got the 12' starboard big easy, it has been super fun in waist to ankle waves (and handles the occasional shoulder high), learning to cross step, it rounds out my quiver.

What about steep drops and pearling, can a 9'7" handle that easily?

i like the idea of a quiver, hmmmm sounds expensive.........................

i am 6'2" 210 lb and rethinking the whole......going shorter, riding the smallest board i can balance on.......is the best board for surf sup. the lower glide seems to affect wave count and when i see good guys on bigger waves they are using longer boards. thinking that quicker paddle to line-up and catching waves earlier will increase wave count and progress faster. thoughts?

great vids, easy to understand on a big board. is the foot position the same on a short boat, from foot forward off center line and back foot across center line?

any body know of a video showing the pivot before catching the wave?
